The minimalist approach to interior design is all about clearing the clutter and reducing the elements of a room down to the bare essentials whilst at the same time retaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance in a room. Functionality therefore is extremely important as everything that exists must have a reason to be, a purpose to serve, a valid function. Minimalism works on the principle that less is more so it is all about reducing the elements in the room to a bare minimum, including any patterns, frills and fuss, to create a streamlined, clear and uncluttered look.
The minimalist room will feel spacious and airy because it is filled with few items of furniture, which are usually spaced quite far apart and perhaps with only one or two ornamental pieces or paintings to add character and act as a focal point. A while ago we posted about what we consider to be the ultimate minimalist wrist watch and, understandably, it set many readers pulses racing – not least a chap we shall simply refer to as ‘Don’ (hope things worked out for you Don). So, with that post very much in mind, we could not possibly pass up on offering up this Stick Sound as being quite possibly the world’s ultimate minimalist FM radio.
The Stick Sound, which resembles an old Atari Joystick (or is that just us?), simply consists of a single stick control for tuning the radio, adjusting the volume and switching the radio on and off.

The Sony DAV-X10 is the gold standard of home theater systems when it comes to minimalism.
The entire package is as pictured above; a sleek main box, which has some hidden touch controls, and only two speakers. Some may say, and many will agree, that two speakers is paltry compared to the 5.1 and even 7.1 surround sound of today’s market. However, the surround sound will be available by Sony’s own S-Force PRO Front Surround technology, through virtualization. The small package accounts for 480 watts of power consumption.
A simple Bluetooth adapter will allow you to play music off of any device with compatible technology. “Old” DVDs will be upscaled to fit your shiny 720p or 1080i HDTV.
No information in terms of price point yet, but there should be soon given its purported September launch.

We have featured a fair few watches on TFTS since its conception and, of those, many have been fairly minimalist affairs – but none have got even close to this degree of minimalism. However, if you’re looking for a wrist watch that will keep you forever abreast of the exact time, this id probably not the watch for you.
Featuring nothing more than a pin type indicator, this watch takes minimalism to the absolute extremes so you can forget any features such as a stop watch, a date display or even any sign of a number on its face. You have a single pin type indicator – and that’s very much that.
The OVO - In a class of its own
Personally, though we like it, it’s really no where near in the same class as the previously featured and quite awe inspiring OVO Wrist Watch – but then we suspect that nothing ever will be. Period.

There’s something about this chair that screams of 70’s styling though we cannot quite put a finger on why. Perhaps it’s the boldness of the design and the vibrant colours which are perfectly complimented by the chrome base. Or perhaps it’s the smooth, curved contours which seem both organic and playfully feminine.

It’s size indicates that it falls somewhere on the portability chart between a Blackberry and an ultra-portable laptop. Pretty cool for those travelers who are on the fence about whether or not to lug a computer around the world with them. The downside: it’s $2,000US. I’m not sure I could give up several months additional travel just to be able to check e-mail and send my usual stream of “How awesome are you?” Myspace trivia bulletins.
Ever so often we come across a gadget that sets our pulses racing and this is one of those occasions. And, when something looks this beautiful, who can blame us for sitting back and letting the imagery do most of the talking?
If you’re in the market for a new wrist watch that is distinctive enough to turn heads without being overstated and is modern without being decidedly brash, then the gorgeous Issey Miyake OVO watch, designed by Shunji Yamanaka, should fit the bill rather nicely.
The battery operated Issey Miyake OVO (which apparently translates as ‘egg’ in Portuguese) offers 100 meter waterproofing, comes in either highly polished stainless steel with green face or in rather sinister black with black face and retails from this Japanese online store for ¥37800 – approximately £156 / $310 excluding shipping.

If there were anything less to this rather cool, designer wall clock it would doubtless cease to exist completely.
