Young Otters (working title) 3" x 2" watercolour
This week has been mainly taken up with the planning stages for a large commission featuring six cats, but in between I have been having fun with a new miniature painting. These are young Asian short clawed otters, and we met them a couple of weeks ago at Longleat safari park. They were full of fun and hardly stayed still for a moment! (T

Why does Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse leave me feeling dead inside?
Not that it’s an unusual feeling for me, but there is usually some re-animated feeling in there somewhere. The effect is achieved by changing the depth of field (among other things).by

The Chamaedorea metallica , or also called the Miniature Fishtail Palm , and the Metallic Palm. This little guy generally will grow to 3-4 ft and love the shade. They call it the Metallic Palm because of its leaf color. The leafs will form a blue-green color and a very distinct metallic sheen to them. This well-known and much loved palm is an endangered species and the only known palm with leaves having a blue-green metallic sheen. The metallic luster shows up particularly well when the leaves are moist.I purchased 2 pots of these from 2 different vendors. The single was $10 and the 3 palm pot was $17.Come Watch my Plants Grow

Telemetry or "remote measurement" is a highly automated communications process by which measurements are made and other data collected at remote, inaccessible or dangerous places, and then relayed by a telemetry transmitter to receiving stations for display, monitoring, and recording. The original telemetry systems were termed "supervisory" because they were used to monitor electric power distribution. Communication channels form a major part of any telemetry system, as it involves measurement of the transmission of data over various mediums.Telemetry transmitter is the instrument used for recording the readings of an instrument and transmitting them by radio or wireless frequencies. Technically, when relaying data, it is necessary for the transmitter to identify the data item correspondin

The term "laptop" is quickly becoming obsolete. Hewlett-Packard Co., currently the No. 1 brand in the worldwide PC arena, is putting considerable resources into a new class of personal computer: the minature laptop. It's a market in which Intel and Asus (Asustek Computers, Inc.) have already set up shop to serve the demand for low-cost, trimmed-down machines. HP's entry into this market illustrates a shift of direction in mobile computing---specialized and smaller. Take out the size, weight and expense of traditional laptops. These "laptop lights" are designed for younger users who primarly use them to surf the web, send and receive e-mail and other basic functions, like word processing. It's a "netbook."
Here's a miniature Pocky box I made. For those who are not familiar with "Pocky" they're like stick shaped biscuits dipped in a strawberry coating (they also come in other flavors). I made this one for my daughter's doll house. These could be made for other things like stickers, embellishments, dioramas, the possibilities are endless. 1. Disassemble the "Pocky" box making sure not to rip it. 2. Scan the flattened box. 3. Scale the box to the desired size (I used Photoshop for this). Print the image. 4. Cut the image out just like the original box. 5. Score all the fold lines with a toothpick. Fold the box up and glue it. Done! And I'll add that this was a hit with my 4 year old. He wanted to play with it right away.

This is a miniature painting of Simon. It is probably nearly finished but almost certainly not quite...I will ponder it for a few days! He also displays at the drop of a hat and would happily pose for hours, so this is a portrait of
Olaf Van Cleef describes himself as a traveller, an artist and an author. He is the scion of Van Cleef dynasty and is a counselor on high range jewellery at Cartier since 1982. Olaf first visited India, to present the Cartiers of Paris as a group that cherished its Indian connection and the Indian heritage, and was so enthralled by this culturally rich vivacious country that he returned to the sub-continent time and again ... and again...For, Olaf Van Cleef was seeking sustenance for his personal philosophy of oneness with the fellowmen and discovered, in India, decisive faith: that in the rich cultural soul of this country he would find the wherewithal to satisfy his soul.Presenting some of his paintings inspired by India and the art of miniature paintings below. Here is the miniature of the young sparrows finally finished. I have yet to come up with a good title for it (or even a bad one actually!) It is 1.75" x 2.25" in watercolour and I've added the penny to give an idea of scale as its blown up considerably here :)

A few people have asked me about the name of this site lately. Since I’m an ancap, I just wanted to dispel the idea that I am a patriot of any sort. I got the name of this site from this episode of the Simpsons, which I think satirizes our political system very effectively:
Whether you're planting miniature roses indoors or out, they are very easy to grow. Although these little guys have often been frowned upon because they give off little or no fragrance, they're the perfect accent to any home or garden. Miniature roses are practically maintenance-free. Just give them a "bath" once a week and they'll last forever.
There's a common misconception about miniature

This is my latest miniature - a red squirrel in watercolour (actual size 1.75" x 2.25"). I have done this little fellow in coloured pencils earlier this year, but found him irresistible for a mini! He was a regular at a feeding station in the Highlands, so wasn't afraid of people even though he's wild. I've blown it up a bit below with the penny for scale: I'm just about to start on finches for the bird book, a rhododendron and hopefully fit in a bit of a break over the holidays! Saturday, my little country town had their annual Christmas parade. It isn’t anything over the top or incredibly fantastic, but it is very cute and festive. I know Allie would enjoy it, and since Adam was working, my mother and I took her to see it.
(Note: A trip with my mother generally involves me having to walk back to the car 4-5 times to either channel my sanity or fetch random items. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother. She’s precious. However, precious and taxing can often be synonymous.)
It was the same as always, the parade and my mother’s company. The parade consisted of random rednecks with cars that are allegedly classic, Firetrucks, horses, dogs, and, of course, Santa Clause. Even the Shriner’s in their little miniature cars & trucks!
(What they did not have –was a band!? What parade doesn’t have a band? “Where in the hell is the band?” my mother asked. Who knows? Since the old band director is locked

MINIATURE ISOLATED AC/DC POWER SUPPLYThis circuit uses a novel approach to produce a fully isolated and regulated 5 volts @30ma from the 120vac power line. It uses two tiny SCRs that alternately discharge two capacitors through a miniature high frequency transformer. The voltage spikes produced through the transformer are rectified, filtered and regulated. A very common 8 ohm audio impedance matching transformer can be used for the transformer
Camera bags are great — they allow you to carry all your important equipment around while you’re out shooting. But as great as they are, sometimes it’s nice to leave them behind and free yourself up a bit. Then what do you do with those bare-minimum pieces of equipment that you absolutely must have with you?
Put ‘em in your pocket. For me, the bare minimums (in addition to the camera and lens) are a spare battery, spare memory card, and a lens cloth. These are all pocket sized items and can easily be carried without a bag. But rather than tossing them in your pocket to rattle around with your keys or cell phone, why not package them together in their own little unit?
Doing this “packaging” allows you to keep everything together. It also allows you to toss the unit in your bigger camera bag one day, then pull it out and stick it in your pocket the next day. I’m able to fit my battery inside of my memory card pouch, and my lens cloth has
Entitled the “Credit Card Embedded Authentication Device” and created by Innovative Card Technologies and eMue Technologies. This next generation credit card utilizes its screen and keypad to provide security for online and mobile based banking transfers. You simply enter your pin into the card, which then gives back a one-time use code to authorize online transactions, I also suppose this can be used to speed up ATM transactions. It isn’t a concept either as it currently being shown at various trade shows, but stay tuned for availability.

If you read enough news on pets, undoubtedly you’ve read stories about service animals not being allowed in certain areas. This isn’t one of those stories, thankfully!
A woman in Vermont has a horse, named Earl, who is also a service animal. When she talked to the people that manages her apartment about the horse moving in with her, they didn’t turn her down. Instead, they are trying to find a solution that will accommodate her, her horse, and her neighbors. Legally since the horse is a service animal I don’t believe they could turn her down, but that hasn’t stopped other places from barring service animals. So, it’s good to see a story like this!
The nonprofit housing group is trying to figure out whether it can accommodate the disabled woman’s new companion amid concerns about the horse’s need for grazing space and whether it will be adequately housebroken, WPTZ-TV in Plattsburgh reported.
