Scientists measuring the health of almost 30 glaciers around the world found that ice loss reached record levels in 2006, the U.N. agency said. UNEP warned that further ice loss could have dramatic consequences particularly in India, whose rivers are fed by Himalayan glaciers. The west coast of North America, which gets much of its water from glaciers in mountain ranges such as the Rockies and Sierra Nevada, also would be affected, it said. "There are many canaries emerging in the climate change coal mine," UNEP's executive director Achim Steiner said in a statement. "The glaciers are perhaps among those making the most noise and it is absolutely essential that everyone sits up and takes notice."source:- CNNfull article

Antarctic volcanoes identified as a possible culprit in glacier melting
n an article published Sunday on the Web site of the journal Nature Geoscience, Hugh Corr and David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey report the identification of a layer of volcanic ash and glass shards frozen within an ice sheet in western Antarctica. This is the first time we have seen a volcano beneath the ice sheet punch a hole through the ice sheet in Antarctica, Vaughan said. Volcanic heat could still be melting ice to water and contributing to thinning and speeding up of the Pine Island glacier, which passes nearby, but Vaughan said he doubted that it could be affecting other glaciers in western Antarctica, which have also thinned in recent years. Most glaciologists, including Vaughan, say that warmer ocean water is the primary cause of thinning.Antarctic volcanoes identi

I managed to catch a brief video too. Basically, Molly was snuggling and talking to her sister...and anytime K took the bottle out of her mouth, Molly would point to her and say "eat".It is seriously the cutest thing I've seen them do yet. The effects are still there, no doubt - there’s a bunch of delay, pitch shifting and vintage spring reverb - but listeners can finally hear what it all is, where it all fits in and where it all needs to go. Noah's Ark To Explain Pre-History Polar Melting?
What if Noah didn't really build an ark, but something else was done to protect the species of earth? What if our technology was advanced back then, and global warming melted all the polar ice caps? Disasters happened worldwide, and the survivors couldn't effectively preserve their civilization. Then their children tried to teach the story to the later generations, but because they didn't understand parts, they reworked and reworded them so as to be easier to grasp.Maybe Noah was an artificially intelligent space station (N.O.A.H.) that transported animals from one location to another. Then the inheritors of "flood world" figured that Noah was really a man, who made such a device. Eventually the space station was confused and became a wooden ship. Or maybe something entirely different had happened, but the story devolved in a similar manner. Is there advanced technology hidden deep underground? Has the government found any of it? Are there survivors of a pre-history society t

And it is because of this that it is considered to be effective in using fat melting laser to help treat acne. The same fat melting laser treatment used for treating heart problems and cellulite reduction is used for treating acne. It is the Free Electron Laser, which is used at specific wavelengths that is considered safe to use on the skin to burn fat excreted by your body. It is because the cause of acne is the lipid-rich sebaceous glands, found a few millimeters under the skin that fat melting laser can treat acne. Constructed from brushed metal and measuring in at 102 in width and 13” in height the Melted Wall Clock is powered by a single AA battery and retails for $60.

      Melting in the Rain
Well apparently not all collies melt in the rain. Our collies.. well, our older collies, have tried to convince me for years and years that when it’s raining, they surely will melt and cannot go outside. Tatum and Bianca have now blown this theory out of the water. Especially Tatum. They will both go out in the rain and play, chew bones, or run around. And so me and my regular dogs stand inside at the door watching them. My collies look at me and still try to convince me that no, if they go our in the rain, surely they will melt. Even if they had a real estate franchise still they would try to tell me they would melt. Alas… now I know it is not true!

Melting Ice opens up Northwest Passage
"While a number of natural factors have certainly contributed to the overall decline in sea ice, the effects of greenhouse warming are now coming through loud and clear," Serreze said. "The implications for global climate, as well as Arctic animals and people, are disturbing."This graph says it all or, at least since records have been kept 1979 to present, look at the steep decline in 2007.More and more Americans are becoming increasingly aware of the effect we have on our environment and adopting this kind of attitude will certainly help our grand-children in the future the Science Daily conducted a poll on relevance to our environment and a growing number think that global warming is an important threat that calls for drastic change. 40% consider a presidential candidate's position on global warming as a major relevance and 62% believe that life will continue as we know it only if we act to curb global warming, after reading a few article's out there it seems that most Americans ar

The warmth of Mill Road's culinary melting pot
Last year we had several neighbourhood shops nominated for TW2B award, and the other week I went to visit one, Al Amin in Mill Road to see what it was like. I was immediately struck by the extraordinary range of food on sale, and the friendly welcoming staff who managed to help customers without being 'pushy'. You certainly don't have to be disabled to enjoy shopping at Al Amin, but I could easily see why they were nominated last year by a regular customer whose shopping they carried home free of charge after an operation made things difficult, and at other times she reported "they make a point of putting my shopping in two evenly balanced bags so that I carry it easily".It's this sort of practical help that we want to encourage! The Cambridge Way To Be awards are all about removing obstacles in the way of disabled people.

New York is melting, the world may be ending
The subways and city in general were a giant mess in NYC today thanks to underground flooding and, I swear, a tornado. The result was that I walked to school through the sweatiest weather I’ve endured in a while and lost about 40 lbs. on the walk to school. So now I weigh 10 lbs. Being that it was rush hour, it had the added effect of a weird reversal on the wet t-shirt contest. Suddenly all these guy in shirts and ties were soaked through, holding their shirts away from their bodies. And instead of beer and water being sprayed everywhere, it was hatred. I learned some new swear words. Elizabeth Edwards says she can’t make her husband, John, black or a woman. First of all, that’s not true. (more…)

Melting glaciers raise sea level more than polar ice sheets
Contrary to common belief, melting glaciers due to global warming contribute more to the rising sea level than the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, researchers said Thursday in a study. Scientists found that the ebb and flow of glaciers where they meet the water causes them to speed up and deliver more ice into the world's oceans than previously estimated, said the study published in Science's latest issue.

      I'm Melting
I melt in the subway, on the streets, in my sleep, before work, after work. This evening I tried in vain to reach behind me on a crowded uptown no. 1 train to wipe, through my shirt, the bead of sweat running down the hollow of my spine. And now I sit in my apartment with chronic forehead perspiration and my box fan placed strategically on the floor to circulate warm air in my direction while the backs of my legs lightly dampen the microsuede of the couch. Even the inside of my pantry is warm. I had to put my protein bars in the refrigerator. Why I'll splurge on a new outfit at H&M or cocktail hour at the bar - yet I haven't bought an air conditioner, I'm not quite sure I know. Maybe because my window won't accommodate a window unit or wall slide-in. And according to every PC Richards in this city, I have to purchase the $399 in-sleeve A/C and pay an additional $80 to have it delivered and installed in the sleeve under my window. It just pains me to spend that kind of money when a w

      I'm Melting!
Ok, maybe just the snow melted. :) It was mostly gone by Sunday. Totally gone yesterday. It hit 76 here! YAY!!!!Hope everyone had a nice weekend. The Hubster spent most of Sat on the phone, computer or both doing some work stuff. Thankfully that doesn't happen too often.Sunday we worked on cleaning up the yard and hung out outside. I pulled up some scary looking dandelions that were sprouting already (just leaves).Monday I did my shopping and we planned a picnic at the park for supper. That was really nice. the girls played and we ate and then took a little hike along the bike trail.Today I ran errands and brought some stuff to OUAC (where I ran into a friend and her two girls, that was a nice surprise!!). Picked Johanna up at school and then dropped what they didn't take off at a local shelter type place and then we ran through the DQ drive-by for lunch. They have a pretty good (and reasonably priced) kids meal there.I had to order a new battery for the Roomba. That arrived today. Th

Chocolate Tempering - it's more than melting!
*Thanks to Robert @ the Chocolate Guild & Chocolatier Noël TemperingTempering is a crucial step in creating any types of truffles, bon bons, pralines, or any type of chocolates. Tempering is the process of developing "Beta" crystals in chocolate. Below you will find the temperatures to properly temper chocolate. Below that, the process will be described and a little knowledge about the 6 crystals in chocolate will be reviewed. Also, the supplies needed will be listed. Items Needed:1) Medium to Large Pot2) Stainless steal bowl3) Spatula4) Precise Thermometer5) Chocolate already in temper (any chocolate you buy will already be in temper)Process:1) Fill Pot 1/4-1/2 full with water2) Heat water to a boil, Then turn off heat 3) Have chocolate chopped up in stainless steal bowl and then place on pot(The idea is the melt the chocolate through the subtle heat of the water). We do not want the bowl touching the water in pot. If it does, remove some water or use a smaller pot or bigger bowl. T

Just one moment alone, one gentle kiss, the slow rubbing of my hands down your sexy body.I look into your eyes & I lose myself, I want to feel all of you. Your warm breath upon my neck, the soft touch of your smooth skin against mine. Wrap your strong arms around me, say you love me just one time.

      my brain is melting
I seem to be having a dry spell when it comes to writing stuff for you to read. I have a few ideas, but nothing of substance at this point. So heres a quick update on whats been happening in our neck of the woods. Zoe's new school held some celebrations today for it's 90th birthday. Nothing too major seeing as how they held a huge 75th apparently. It was really good to see so many past students come along, gives me more confidence in the school. Her teacher had a little chat with me this morning while I was doing the readers. Seems she has had a chat to the appropriate teacher about getting some extension work for Zoe with her literacy. It was good to hear, I was about a week off having a chat with her about Zoe's reluctance to go to school 1 in 3 mornings because it's boring. She is still being a pain in the butt. Zoe I mean, not
