Medical Marijuana Patient Fights For Right To Smoke Openly
A federally licensed Canadian medical marijuana user is fuming after receiving correspondence from his city councillor telling him to "Quit taking up taxpayers' dollars" with a "frivolous" human rights complaint. "I am not asking for anything special except the same rights that tobacco smokers have," he said. Cast your vote in the included poll.read more | digg story

As a registered nurse, I am growing increasingly weary of the insulting attacks which brand me as a miscreant and criminal. Even though a person would never consider going to a police station to obtain an opinion on the use of a medication, pronouncements by law enforcement such on the efficacy of medicinal marijuana are accepted as fact.

      Medical Marijuana discrimination?
Here is a simple, yet, controversial question: If someone has used marijuana - even if used for medical reasons - should this prohibit him or her from being considered to be on a transplant list? Hospitals throughout this great nation struggle with this question every day. Timothy Garon (pictured above) is a patient at the University of Washington Medical Center. He has end stage Hepatitis C and, according to this Associated Press story, may be in his final days without a liver transplant. But Garon's been refused a spot on the transplant list, largely because he has used marijuana, even though it was legally approved for medical reasons. "I'm not angry, I'm not mad, I'm just confused," said Garon, lying in his hospital bed a few minutes after a doctor told him the hospital transplant commi

Evidence Based Politics and Medical Marijuana: A Challenge to Republicans
In health care there has been a great push towards evidence based medicine to ensure that treatments used are effective and that we don’t waste money on those which are not effective. Republican politicians could learn from this philosophy. I’ve already noted how the Bush administration pushes abstinence based education contrary to the evidence that abstinence-only programs are ineffective. John Tierney posts on a challenge to Republican candidates regarding their views on medical marijuana, and backs up his views on the subject with evidence: Some of the Republican presidential candidates have dismissed medical marijuana as unnecessary or “too dangerous.” Now they’re being offered $10,000 to come up with the scientific evidence. The Marijuana Policy Project, a group advocating the use of medical marijuana, will be in New Hampshire next week with a mobile billboard offering to contribute $10,000 to the campaigns of Rudy Giuliani, John McCain or Mitt Romney if any of

      Medical Marijuana in the News
I just read an Article that Drew Carry from the Price is Right Endorses the use of Medical Marijuana. This seems to be a hot topic around the country and more good folks are getting on the Band-Wagon ...

Gov. Mitt Romney meets a medical marijuana patient.
At a campaign stop in Dover, Delaware, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has a tough time dealing with a question about medical marijuana from Clayton Holton, a wheelchair-bound man suffering from Muscular Dystrophy. Holton asks Romney if he’d arrest him or his doctors for using medical marijuana and that was all Romney needed to hear — he cuts and runs, moving on to shake hands with other people in the crowd, ignoring Holton as he presses him on the question. What a scumbag.Further proof that this country can use Anyone But Romney in 2008.

      Republicans and Medical Marijuana
I know medical marijuana is not, nor should it be, the defining issue of the 2008 presidential election. But, it seems the stubborn refusal of the current administration and all the Republican candidates, Dr. Ron Paul excepted, tells the country much about these folks.Last Saturday Mitt Romney bravely confronted marijuana and the disabled in Dover, New Hampshire:The other day, at another town meeting in New Hampshire, a sickly Linda Macia mentioned from her wheelchair that she used medical marijuana. Miss Macia politely asked John McCain his position on permitting it. Barely were the words out of her mouth before the senator spun on his heels and stalked away. This is another one of those things I find puzzling. There is certainly evidence marijuana has medicinal value. And why wouldn't the old party of states' rights want the federal government to let each state decide for itself whether it wishes to permit disabled and terminally ill patients to use cannabis under a docto
