I have a love/appreciate/hate relationship with the school I went to for my undergrad degree. I loved the reasonably-low in-state tuition. I appreciated the underrated, quality education it gave me. I hated the head-scratching, brain-cell killing, sometimes moronic administration and staff.
Cue the back story:
1. This school once told me I had lost an academic scholarship my freshman year, only to tell me a semester later it made a mistake and I still had it.
2. This school once sent me a nice, polite, congratulatory letter. Why were they congratulating me? Because I had just graduated from their college. Two problems: One, I was only a sophomore. Two, I wasn’t even enrolled at their school at the time. I had transferred five months earlier.
3. This school once assigned me to an adviser who I question whether or not had any knowledge of the school, its courses, my major, what classes I needed, or who the heck I was. As such, he enrolled me in classes I later found out I did not n

Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York wants to host a 2008 Presidential or Vice Presidential debate, even if it's going to cost the university a pretty penny.Why is this so important to me? Well, if you haven't read my bio on the right, you wouldn't have known Hofstra is my alma mater. I graduated from there last May. This blog exists, in part, because of the education I received at Hofstra. My writing skills and my political knowledge (not necessarily my political leanings,) were taught to me by professors at that school. To see a Presidential debate at my alma mater would make any alumnus or alumna of Hofstra proud. This month I am proud and honored to be featured not only on the cover with one of my illustrations but on the inside with a one page article about me in LaGrange College's Alumni Magazine - Columns. I graduated with a BA from LaGrange College, LaGrange, GA, in 1992. Studying there played a huge part in who I am today. Majoring in Drawing & Painting and Graphic Design, in a liberal arts college, I learned the base set of skills that made this illustration for the cover. Even though this cover was not originally done for Columns, the Editor, Dean Hartman and Designer, Stacy Jackson, thought it would be appropriate subject matter and concept for this issue. I originally did this for PTO Today magazine in 2003. I tweaked the layers a bit so the Stacy could separate the people on the inside spread. You ever have one of those days when you hear some news about your alma mater and you think to yourself, "Damn I'm so proud of that school" or "Wow - isn't that just swell of (fill in the blank of your alma mater)." Yah, I suppose certain schools produce more of those moments than others. And then there are those times when you hear some news about your alma mater and you think to yourself, "What in the hell?" or "Damn, did I really go there?"
I had one of those moments this week. A great friend of mine recently told me about how a few Whitworth College students celebrated Reformation Day 2006. They created their own version of the 95 Theses and posted over 300 of them around Gonzaga University, a Jesuit school (most famous around the nation because of their basketball team, the Gonzaga Bulldogs). GAMBIER, Ohio - Paul Newman is donating $10 million to Kenyon College to help start a scholarship fund, the private liberal arts school said. Newman, 82, graduated from the central Ohio college in 1949 with a degree in drama and economics. wow gold Imitation jewelry smoke detector

"My days there were among the happiest and most formative of my life," Newman said in a statement from Kenyon on Friday. "I believe strongly that we should be doing whatever we can to make all higher education opportunities available to deserving students. I hope others will support Kenyon in this manner."
The donation will fund partial and full scholarships for 15 to 20 students a year, college spokesman Shawn Presley said. The first Newman's Own scholars will be announced this summer.
