ATLANTA — One of these days – provided he’s not traded for a front-line starter – Jordan Schafer is going to man center field for the Atlanta Braves.
But it seems Schafer keeps running into obstacles that have nothing to do with his talent on the field.
We all know about his 50-game suspension [...]

When I was growing up as a young Bug, my dad, The Big Bug, taught me everything I would need to know to make it in life. He taught me how to get a deal, how to differentiate between a 55-58 Chevy, how to clean and grade a Record album. He also imparted his wisdom to me. Things like never letting on when you're getting a deal, that the best neighbor is one you only have to wave to, and that for

CURRENCY TRADING SUMMARY U.S. Dollar Trading (USD) strengthened against the major currencies overnight, joining the equity markets in shaking off last week’s soft U.S jobs data as news that America’s largest savings and loan bank, Washington Mutual, will be receiving a $5 billion capital injection from equity group TPG. Whilst acting like a shot of confidence in the market, U.S consumer credit rose by US$5.16 billion for the month of February. However, this was below the expected amount of US$5.5 billion so there may be indications the Federal Reserve’s drastic easing of monetary policy is beginning to flow through the economy. The NASDAQ lost 6 points (-0.3%) whilst the Dow Jones had a volatile day after being up 124 points at one stage, before closing 3 points up. Oil prices surged

General Deepak Kapoor, the Chief of the Army Staff, has kicked up an all too familiar storm after his interview with Karan Thapar. Major Jaswant Singh, former Defence and Finance Minister, has criticized the COAS for his remarks, particularly on incursions by the Chinese into Arunachal Pradesh, and virtually asked the government to gag the Army Chief.Major Jaswant Singh, who left the Army many decades ago but still wears a safari suit with military type pockets and shoulder flaps, is senior to the Chief in service. That, he thinks, gives him the right to tick off the COAS in public, as if the guy does not know what he is saying. To my mind, all that the General can be faulted for was the diffidence and extreme caution that he showed during the interview with Thapar. The Major has probably

New entrants in Indian real estate are the renowned paint companies which are extremely bullish on India.
The country has attracted the interests of the Japanese pain major, Nippon, which says to invest around Rs 80 crore to set up an array of manufacturing facilities in Gurgaon and a 25 acre unit in Chennai.
Indeed, the sector will see the investments from the world’s largest supplier of paints and coatings, Akzo Nobel which may acquire ICI Paints globally for $16 billion. The Dutch giant is has moved a step closer to tap Indian realty.
Akzo Nobel runs a powder coating business in India through its acquisitions of Courtaulds in July 1998. The company has also broadened its horizons into the decorative paints segment.
Lured by the glitz of booming India, another entrant is the US giant Dupont. The company supplies inputs such as Titanium Chloride to Indian paint companies. Plans are being developed but the company declined to unveil details.

Should an undergraduate studying business pay more than one studying psychology? Should a journalism degree cost more than one in literature? More and more public universities, confronting rising costs and lagging state support, have decided the answers may be yes and yes.Starting this fall, juniors and seniors pursuing a major in the business school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will pay $500 more each semester than classmates with other majors. The University of Nebraska last year began charging engineering students $40 for each hour of class credit. And Arizona State University this fall will institute a $250-per-semester charge above the basic $2,411 tuition for in-state upperclassmen in the journalism school.Such moves are being driven by the salaries commanded by professors, the expense of specialized equipment and the difficulties of persuading state legislatures to approve general tuition increases, university officials say.The University of Washington does not charge
I’m sure many of you have read the articles over the last week or so announcing that Johnny Majors is moving back to Tennessee. No, he’s not coming to replace Fulmer. Just to live.
It’s not quite the same this time around. The last time Coach Majors was returning home to Knoxville, it was to a hero’s welcome. It was 1977. He had just won the National Championship at Pittsburgh and was returning to his alma mater, his home, to resurrect the program.
I don’t want to get into the whole Fulmer vs. Majors debate but I think it’s a shame that he appears to be more respected in Pittsburgh than he is in Tennessee. It doesn’t seem right somehow to read of a Johnny Majors Room there with pictures of the 82 win over Alabama and other memorable moments in his Tennessee career. (read link above)
It’s hard for me to remember clearly exactly how I felt when Coach Majors was run out of town at the end of the 92 season. I seem to remember feeling about our football program
The British Open Champion, Padraig Harrington, has said he will win more gold Majors after beating Sergio Garcia to take the British Open crown.
Padraig Harrington said:
“Phil Mickelson got it right when he answered questions about when he was going to win a major by saying he wanted to win more than one,”
“I’ve always had it in my head that I am going to try to do the same. That should help me move on.”
It had been eight years and 31 majors since Europe won a Major and Harrington said: “I definitely think we have banished the hang-up for the moment. We might get a year before it’s mentioned again!
“European players know how my game is in relation to theirs and the fact that I have done it will make a lot of them believe they can do it. I don’t think I’m an intimidating force.
“European golf is very strong. This may be the start and if it is I will be telling people I started it.”
Do you think Padraig Harrington
Sergio Garcia is currently on course to win the British Open, which would be his first major golf title.
However the Spanish golfer insisted that winning a Major golf tournament was not that important to him.
In a news conference, in response to a question asking when he was going to win his first major Garcia said:
“I’m always going to say the same thing: I’m not bothered. I don’t really care.
“I’m trying, I can tell you that. I’m trying to win as many majors as I can.
“Sometimes you play well and you still don’t win. Last year I managed to shoot 23-under in the last two majors and didn’t win.”
Do you think Garcia can go on to win the British Open 2007?

Seve Ballesteros has won the British Open three times and he is also a two time Masters champion, bringing his career total to five major wins.
After such success, Ballesteros has announced that he will be retiring from professional golf.
A very emtional Ballesteros said: “For a few months, there was something confused inside me. My head said, ‘I think you should retire,’ but my heart was telling me, ‘You would be better to continue playing and competing.’”
“It was difficult for quite a while but finally I decided this year to go and try the Champions Tour. I went there, and the weather was nice, but I only played one tournament and I came back.
“That really made me think very deeply and really question either you continue or you stop playing. I made probably the hardest decision of my career as a player, and I decided to retire.”
Ballesteros is a winner of a record 50 European titles and he turned professional at age 16 in 1974. Ball
At tens of millions of dollars a pop, wells drilled in the ocean's unforgiving deep waters are an investment oil companies consider worth watching around the clock. And watch they do. In years past, problematic wells or equipment failures on platforms and rigs sometimes forced operations to shut down or slow down to await a troubleshooting team's arrival. Such idle time is costly. On average, it costs $1 million a day to operate a deep-water well, including expenses for the drilling rig, materials, services and logistics. If work is shut down, companies still pay.
