Beach on Sunday was a total waste of time until I saw an angelic smile. We were forced to leave with an approaching dark and magnanimous cloud after simply a lost game; waiting by the side of the court proved meaningless finally. We witnessed ships disappearing at the far side of the sea within minutes and even the two dragon boats quite near us vanished within some seconds.I was sitting inside Da
Okay, so we ended up getting two really great ads about Nobama out of the McCain camp - I suppose I should have expected that the next one would be back to McCain appealing to the liberal voters he wants on his side so badly. Hold your nose on this one, that's for sure.Drug companies and big oil are the villans again, right John? But don't we have some amazing health care in this country? Aren't w

The portfolio finished down over $8,000 today. It is now at it's lowest level of the year. Definitely not a good start to the week.Again, the financials and the airlines had bad days. Oil was up, but only by $1.38 a barrel to $136.74, which is still about $3 off it's high. Unfortunately however, that was still enough to spook the market. Here's to a better week ahead....

As registered nurses, we have to earn continuing professional education units required by our profession. That’s 60 units for three years, or 20 units a year. And I think this ought to be a must. Oh well, I am not quite sure as I haven’t known any case in which a registered nurse who had not complied with this was de-licensed or what. Or maybe I may have just been unaware. Whatever!

The iPhone's call quality is
a perfect example of "version 1.0 syndrome." Apple's been making iPods

Well it seems the latest study to make the news every where is this one that demonises egg consumption, but whats new...WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Middle-aged men who ate seven or more eggs a week had a higher risk of earlier death, U.S. researchers reported on Wednesday.Men with diabetes who ate any eggs at all raised their risk of death during a 20-year period studied, according to the study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.Seven or more eggs a week raises risk of deathSurely, you would think there would be an awful lot of low carbers dropping dead by now? After reading that, I went and tracked down the study (only abstract was available) as well as an editorial, in hopes to find out more about it but alas, I didn't find much:Egg consumption in relation to cardiovascula

Not that I like to get too much of my information from advertising, but this is what I read in an ad for Sprint in this month's (print) Money magazine: "America is #1 in hours worked, #7 in productivity." Now the point of the ad is that we can work "smarter." But I'm still pausing on the first part: #1 in hours worked? I don't know if that's overall or per capita, but I'm not excited to see it either way. There are lots of things for which I'd like to see a #1 ranking, but that's not one of them.Is this our problem overall in the United States as far as work-life balance goes?

You'd love your job—if only your boss wasn't such a jerk. But instead of whistling through the workday, you drill holes in your keyboard while stewing over a string of indignities.Once you've made sure that the problem really is your boss, and not you, there may be little recourse but to quit or ask for another assignment. But before bailing out, here are some coping strategies for a variety of scenarios. First, put yourself in your boss's wingtips: Would such an approach work with you? If you think it might, then give these tactics a try:1. Your boss is unfairly critical. Approach your boss with a positive spin. Explain that you really want to be a good employee and ask what you should be doing differently. If you're lucky, he'll thank you for taking the initiative and vow to give more

When I was 13, my parents got my younger sister and me a Nintendo for Christmas. You know, the one that came with the obligatory Duck Hunt and Super Mario? Well, we would play that for hours on end, frustrated with never being able to get through the Eighth World in Super Mario. One day, we purchased a cheat guide that showed you every single trick and nuance to that game. It's only now that I can imagine my parents' great relief that we were finally able to conquer the Big Boss. (Wasn't that the villian's name?) Granted, they never had to help us because their understanding of technology was nil. Or was it?My oldest daughter, K, got the Littlest Pet Shop Plug & Play video game from Santa Claus. She had begged for it for months and Santa stupidly thought it would be a great gif
I guess we finally found out where the money Circuit City (CC) saved by "letting go" its highest paid and most experienced sales people earlier in the year is going, to the folks who made the ill-fated decision.
In an SEC filing, CC said the company's board approved "retention awards" of $1 million for executive vice presidents and $600,000 for senior vice presidents. The awards will be effective as of January 1, 2008, and vest over a three-year period. Circuit City said the awards were...

I’m getting sorely tempted to get an iPhone, just not sure whether to take a chance on an unlocked iPhone from eBay or getting one directly from O2 and hoping that sooner or later we follow the German example and make O2 unlock them for us.
Of course if the latter happens I’m already locked into an 18 month contract with a network that doesn’t provide a very good connection in our area. Looks like eBay maybe the way to go. I have read some of the iPhone auctions and the sellers appear to know what they are talking about regarding the upgrades, so maybe its not such a gamble.
I heard yesterday that several months ago Stephen Fry was in the US and had bought an iPhone there, with a US contract but was using it in the UK. So whenever he used it over here he was using a roaming connection i.e. every call he made was an international call. Ouch.
I’ve got stuck in Call of Duty 4 where I can’t rescue the Cobra pilot before he/she gets killed, so my game play la
I’m David Wescott, the political hack/PR flack who blogs about blogging at It’s Not A Lecture. I’m really grateful to Sara for inviting me to rant at her place for a change. A few months ago, I apologized to moms everywhere for the terrible job that some people in my industry do pitching bloggers of all stripes, and made some suggestions on how moms could make it stop. As usual, moms led the way on this issue.
Since then we’ve seen new and well-intended ”ethical codes” published, and marketing professionals everywhere were claiming that they’re committed to doing this right and those people who write those impersonal, irrelevant emails to bloggers have nothing to do with us.
And we really meant it, especially for moms. After all, you represent the Holy Grail to marketers. Women make 85% of all purchases at point of sale. Women buy a lot more cars, new homes, PC’s and computer electronics, hardware and healthcare than m

The vacation was supposed to "charge the batteries" again but I'm feeling anything but recharged right now. I'm as lazy and lethargic as ever, so nothing really changed. Either way, we're finally getting some NFL action on Sunday and even though it's just pre-season, it means that the horrible off-season is over and that the real games are just around the corner. So sticking with the foosball, it seems like Jason Allen is nowhere close to being the player Miami was hoping for when they drafted him 16th overall last season. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero has been watching Allen in camp and so far it's pretty damn depressing.Salguero tells us that Allen got beat by 5 yards by Derek Hagan on a long touchdown pass but that it was still an "improvement" seeing that Hagan beat him by 20 yards back in a June training camp. And then there's the realistic view: And that is that Jason Allen may well develop into a serviceable backup cornerback and possibly even a good special teams pla

Singer Kelly Clarkson, the “American Idol” winner who went on to win two Grammys in 2006, has canceled plans for a summer tour due to disappointing ticket sales.
LiveNation, the concert promotion company that had lined up her tour, said the singer and her team were now re-evaluating the show’s size and scope.
“Ticket sales have not been what we anticipated and we came to the realization that we had bit off more than we could chew,” said Michael Rapino, chief executive officer of concert promotion company LiveNation.
“In the end, we are in the Kelly Clarkson business and for that reason we believe that this decision will only benefit her and her fans in the long run,” he said.
The companies said that tickets for the tour can be refunded at the point of purchase.
Clarkson won the first “American Idol” singing competition in 2002. Her new album, “My December,” is due June 26.

OK. You’ve finally let the bitter truth seep into the part of your brain that admits bitter truths. Your job sucks. The mere fact that window envelopes with pretty checks in them arrive every two weeks is not doing it for you anymore. You are becoming very good at the thousand-yard stare, the long, unfocused look past your cubicle into a green-and-gold world out there somewhere, a world that’s passing you by. Or perhaps you’re so damned wiped out at the end of a day on the assembly line, behind the cash register, or at the nurse’s station that the thousand-yard stare shrinks to six inches.
Still, through it all you dare to dream. You dream of the job you love so much you can’t believe you’re getting paid to do it. The perfect match for your talents, habits, passions, and desire to make a difference in the world. It flickers in and out of your awareness. How do I get this job? you wonder, and then that plaintive question is smothered by dark thoughts:
I was planning a long post about how today was a miserable day and nothing was going right. I had all sorts of things to complain about:- how our three cats took turns waking me up in 20 min. increments beginning at 5:15am, meaning I had very little sleep and woke up grumpy.- how the elder Siamese then chose to throw up on the carpet in the living room this morning, not once, but three times. And of course he moved a little between each barfing session, so I had three areas to clean up.- how Cordy and I have seen Aaron less than a half hour a day since Sunday, due to his being busy at work and directing a play that opened last night.- how Cordy has not napped in two days, and the weather has been dreary, so she's bouncing off the walls. And the stupid cable is acting up, and of course one of the channels that doesn't work right now is Disney.- how sad/pissed I was to receive a baby shower invitation to my coworker's shower, when she's due a month after me, and yet no one at work is

[Thursday, 05 April, 2007]I worked till after 7am once again and waked up at around 1pm. I actually dreamt of some close friends and the Chicken-tortoise.Worked occupied the entire afternoon with some short naps in between, until I suddenly realised evening was falling and I was running late. I quickly packed up and left home for Singapore Polytechnic that I even brought the wrong pair of shoes along.I failed to squeeze into the first approaching train but managed to learn to be a pancake into the next arrival one. Jingkun and Mingfa were waiting for me at Dover ITE. Afterwards, Junyang joined us. Mingfa waited there for Weitat and Jianhao while the three of us went to the hall. We proceeded to find some food and as we were going back to the hall, a girl asked Jingkun about some team members as she thought Jingkun was one of the freshies there, taking part in the orientation camp.Junyang, Jingkun and I sat by a corner and stoned there while waiting for the rest to arrive. Wilson got th
Well , it was a glorious day....but what a lousy ending. Once again my two boys were returned to us in the back of a police cruiser. They have only been allowed to leave the property for the last 2 weeks. I was just asking my husband if the two of them had come in yet as it was 9;30 and they are usually in by 9;00. Just as he says no, I look out the window and I said to him....never mind the police are just pulling in to the driveway want to bet they're in the backseat ? Sure enough , they got caught shop lifting from the one store they hadn't been trespassed from. This time even the police are frustrated as they were waiting for them to be caught in the act and they were but the store owner is not interested in prosecuting. Seems there is too much paperwork involved and store owners don't want to miss work to attend court hearings. They are just as happy to have them "trespassed" from ever entering their stores. These two yahoos are standing in the driveway BEGG
