So despite how Dan DiDio alone may be leading to the failure of DC, they decided to renew his contract. I must say, they really are looking for failure alright. It says here now: That, despite DC's disappointing performance under DiDio, they may be forced to stick with him due to the lack of anyone else within the company with the experience and/or ambition to step into the position instead. If

      A Life Half-Lived
Many, many years ago I saw the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. I remember the film because it established for me that Pierce Brosnan had gotten kind of icky since his glory days as Remington Steele. It's a strange kind of ickiness - he is a classically handsome man with symmetrical features and plenty of hair. It has something to do with his smile,

Experts forecast the tumble in gold futures may be short-lived
From NewsOK.comGold prices tumbled to a one-month low Thursday, plunging after the dollar gained some muscle against the euro and hedge funds cashed in profits following the metal's record-setting rally above $1,000.Gold had staged a phenomenal run before this week's decline, gaining nearly 20 percent this year as investors snapped up the metal traditionally seen as a haven during economic uncertainty and rising inflation. Gold began losing steam after Tuesday's lower-than-expected Federal Reserve interest rate cut propped up the dollar, sparking a huge commodities sell-off from everything to copper to crude oil to grains. "People are reducing positions. It may be a quarter-end phenomenon, it may be a scaling back for leverage but the bottom line is, people are selling stuff, and gold and

And the two princes lived happily every after …
Forget Heather Has Two Mommies. More and more scholastic books on homosexuality are emerging on the shelves of school libraries across America. And more and more parents are trying to stop it from happening. As reported in the Washington Blade, a group of parents who objected to the discussions of gay families in their children's classrooms have taken their case to a federal appeals court. The lawsuit filed by the parents explains why they sued after their son brought home a book from kindergarten that depicted different kinds of families, including a gay family. Another couple signed on after they found out that a second grade teacher read the class a story about two princes falling in love. (Oh, the horror!) The parents cried that their "rights to religious freedom and to control the upbringing of their children" were violated by the school system. I'm all for religious freedom and the right for parents to "control" (they mean "teach", right?) their children how they

This is an attempt to open a way to a new future, firmly founded in the true spiritual and religious sources of the past”. Thus begins Holger Kersten’s book “Jesus Lived in India”. I lived on the moon

Buh-Bye - The Shortest-Lived Television Series to Split the Small Screen
By Jennifer Jordan Ah, short-lived TV shows: you gotta love 'em. There is nothing quite like shows that are so bad they live in infamy. From shows that are on the air for just one episode, to those that stay for a few weeks, short-lived TV shows are really quite easy to miss: if you blink, you'll do just that. The following are some of the shortest-lived TV shows of all time: they are gone because they're rotten.Cop Rock: A show that coupled a police drama with a Broadway-like musical wasn't successful: that's madness! Cop Rock, which aired on ABC, was the brain child (or perhaps brain fart) of Steven Bochco, the man behind several successful series. With a premise that featured cops going where no one in law enforcement should ever go - into a song and dance number - it was like Hill Street Blues, singing the Blues. Originally airing on September 26, 1990, Cop Rock was pulled off the air three months later on December 26, making its cancellation a late Christmas present for the v

A two-headed snake named "We," the main attraction at the World Aquarium, has died. The 8-year-old rat snake died of natural causes during the weekend, said caretaker Leonard Sonnenschein. Most two-headed snakes survive for only a week or two. "It's terrible news," Sonnenschein said. "People come in every day and say: 'I'm here to see the two-headed snake.'"Sonnenschein said more than a million people have seen We over the years. Children were especially fascinated by the snake, wondering how two heads could coexist on the same body as We sometimes strained to slither in two directions at once.Source: HelenaIRTechnorati Tags: snake two headed world aquarium

Ever wish you lived in Seattle?
Every time I start running around the internet reading real estate blogs, I end up in Seattle. It seems like they are doing the groundbreaking and creative first. Tonight's Seattle Real Estate stop was a site called Seattle PI, which I bumped into while reading Greg Perry's site, Working-For-You, and then rambled over to this collaborative site where perhaps 20 local agents write on Seattle real estate issues. Great idea and kudos.

The drug effect: Merck’s high may be short lived
Merck has seen some tumultuous times over the past year but even though it finally looks like it may be out of the doghouse with Friday’s dropping of a Vioxx litigation, recent buzz about the upgrade in Merck from SELL to NEUTRAL and in Merrill Lynch’s case from SELL to BUY, should all be taken lightly. “Merck & Co. (MRK) said late Friday a Texas court overseeing the Texas Vioxx litigations has rejected a plaintiff’s claim that she was not properly informed of the drug’s alleged risks. According to the company, the claim, which came in the case Ledbetter v. Merck, was rejected by the court because the Vioxx label contained a Food and Drug Administration-approved warning label.” The truth is there are still over 10,000 lawsuits in the pipeline and this ruling may be isolated. Even Merck’s strong performance this past week with Q1 earnings up 12% and net income up $0.09 a share to $1.7 billion from $1.52 billion in Q1 last year, will only p

I So Could Have Lived Without Hearing That
My 3 1/2 year old just ran into the living room with no pants on and tells me quite proudly, “Look mommy, my pee-pee is standing up!” Son, there are just some things mommy doesn’t need to know. This would be one of them.

If I Only Lived in London
Newsletters are awesome, especially if you have a desperate need to know everything about everything. I get a well rounded dose of fashion daily and all I have to do is go to my inbox. Today I received a newsletter from Fashion Trendsetter, and there was a link to an extremely interesting article about the new Fashion Retail Academy in London. Honestly, I'm the first person to rant about how the only true reason to attend school after a certain grade is to get a good job and make money, but I think it's a good idea to have the Fashion Retail Academy. My major problem with college is having to take all the fluff classes that have nothing to do with what I actually want to do, but at Fashion Retail Academy their is a very focused curriculum in whichever career path you wish to pursue. The school concentrates on such careers as: branding, buying, consumer services, marketing, merchandising, public relations, and visual merchandising. They also provide tons of great work placement or co

      DAVE COCKRUM LIVED HIS DREAM
X-Men illustrator Dave Crockum died peacefully Sunday evening in his home. CNN reports:Wearing Superman pajamas and covered with his Batman blanket, comic book illustrator Dave Cockrum died Sunday. The 63-year-old overhauled the X-Men comic and helped popularize the relatively obscure Marvel Comics in the 1970s. He helped turn the title into a publishing sensation and major film franchise.Cockrum died in his favorite chair at his home in Belton, South Carolina, after a long battle with diabetes and related complications, his wife Paty Cockrum said Tuesday. At Cockrum's request, there will be no public services and his body will be cremated, according to Cox Funeral Home. His ashes will be spread on his property. A family friend said he will be cremated in a Green Lantern shirt.I know. You expect me to tear into a grown man for wearing Superman pj's, and covered in his Batman blanket. But if you knew me, you'd know I have a very special fondness for those of the "geek" persuasi

The Character Who Made the "Sexiest Men Who Never Lived" List is...
None other than Lucius Malfoy, of course! Mr. Malfoy has been getting quite a lot of attention lately, particularly with him recently making the Forbes list of fictional characters. He'll be very pleased to know (if he ever hears it from his cell in Azkaban), that he made the "Sexiest Men Who Were Never Alive" list as well.As portrayed by Jason Isaacs, he's a bigot and a snob, and he could pass for a drag queen in the wrong light. My nomination as the coolest blond since Jean Harlow. You can view the rest of the list, which includes Mr. Darcy and Spock, at SFGate.com.Thanks Wizard News!----------------------------------------------

      U.S. Democrats' short-lived joy
Two years after George W. Bush, the leader of the American Republican Party, got elected, at least 200 million American citizens are asked to head to the polls today. Midterms election are meant to bring a new configuration to the House of Representatives (435 seats) and to the Senate (33 new Senators will be elected out of 100). Tomorrow, the international community will know the taste of the Americans' comments about their government.Obviously, one would have expected this midterm election to be about domestic policies, but as strange as it might look, George W. Bush's reprehensible foreign policies are at the centre of this event that will influence American politics in the upcoming weeks. Afterwards, we'll see what American citizens are really thinking about the war in Iraq.In my opinion, the Democrats can certainly win a majority in the House of Representatives. Speaking about the Senate, I really doubt that the Republicans will appreciate losing their grip on it. As you can se

      11,012 - short lived upside
Today was one of those days that left one scratching their heads slightly as having recovered 300 points on Friday, the Karachi Stock market got buggered again and closed 234 points down at 11,012. An interesting reaction to the fact that the CFS cap has increased to Rs.55 billion. It seems to have been an over correction on the downside and mainly due to a weak OGDC which closed below its 200-DMA again. The KSE-100 index might yo-yo at these levels for a bit and touch its recent low of 10,865, but the market should re-test its recent high in the short term before the new risk managment system comes into play at the end of the month. The ridiculous ‘’March 2005 Crisis'’ issue seems to be rearing its ugly head again which could be the reason for today’s downside. News : Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) will be signing an agreement for a loan of Rs4 billion on November 8 for financing its infrastructure development programme…. Geo News Upper Cap

Salt Island (and the Man Who Lived There)
I'm sorry it's taken me a while to catch up. Sometimes my story gets ahead of me. In my last post, I was carried on a ferry steered by an unknown captain to Salt Island. Of course, I didn't know we were headed toward Salt Island until the ferry reached the dark shore. I had never been to Salt Island, but I knew it immediately by the briny smell - the result of centuries of ocean salt deposits. No one knows exactly why Salt Island accumulates more than its share of bitter salt - but because the salt-smell is so pungeant, plans to develop the island for a power plant, luxury condos, and other uses were finally abandoned in the late 1970's and the island fell into decline.I struggle to lift the blanket off of me - this was the smell I was trying to place (before the chloroform took effect). I'm still a little groggy, but I can see the pale moon shining over the sparkling piles of salt. The third passenger is leaning over the deck, smoking. I remember when Rafe used to light up, usual

Study provides first genetic evidence of long-lived African presence within Britain
Genetics: January 24th, 2007 - New research has identified the first genetic evidence of Africans having lived among 'indigenous' British people for centuries. Their descendants, living across the UK today, were unaware of their black ancestry. The University of Leicester study, funded by the Wellcome Trust and published today in 'European Journal of Human Genetics' (see below), found that one-third of men with a rare Yorkshire surname carry a rare Y-chromosome type previously found only among people of West African origin. The researchers, led by Professor Mark Jobling of the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester, first spotted the rare Y-chromosome type, known as hgA1, in one individual, Mr X. This happened while PhD student Ms Turi King was sampling a larger group in a study to explore the association between surnames and the Y chromosome, both inherited from father to son. Mr X, a white Caucasian living in Leicester, was unaware of having any African ancestors."As

If McDreamy Lived In Europe This Would Be His Home.
Admit it, you like Grey's Anatomy - even if the second season is still crammed commercial break to commercial break of tired cliches. One of the parts I like most about the show is Patrick Dempsey's home, the Airsteam trailer parked in the middle of some impossibly green woods soundstage. Of course having Kate Walsh a.k.a. Addison Shepherd there waiting for you every now and then. Anyway, I came across this tour of a motor home and thought it a good interpretation of Patrick Dempsey's place had he lived somewhere in the Rheinland.

VoIP - Here for the Long Haul or Short Lived Fad?
Is VoIP an emerging industry that's here to stay or is it likely that it's just another popular short-lived fad that will soon be erased from our vocabularies? Evaluating VoIP is important to helping you determine whether this is a career opportunity that you should consider. When looking at any new technology, it's important to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages. After all, these are the factors that will determine whether the new technologies will be short-lived fads that disappear after a brief time on the market or become part of our everyday lives. VoIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol - is a fairly recent addition to the ever-changing world of communication technology. The VoIP systems have some real advantages, but it's not yet all positive news when it comes to VoIP.One of the biggest advantages of VoIP is cost. Column: LeBron has lived up to the hype
CLEVELAND - Imagine being 22, and having to carry a franchise. Now imagine being 22, and having to carry the hopes and dreams of an entire city. A city that's known nothing in sports but heartbreak for two generations. A city so starved for something good its most memorable events are somebody else's triumphs. ADVERTISEMENT   A city just up the highway from where you grew up, making those disappointments all the more personal. Imagine that kind of pressure. Most athletes would crumble under a fraction of the weight. LeBron James, though, isn't most athletes. Isn't like anybody else, to be honest. All those comparisons to Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson? They don't do justice for what this kid from Akron has done for Cleveland and the Cavaliers. "There's been so much hype about him," Indians pitcher C.C. Sabathia said. "And he's lived up to every ounce of it." And then some. Only four years removed from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, James has the Ca
