Chris Mims, a former defensive lineman for the San Diego Chargers beset by legal problems, was found dead in his downtown apartment Wednesday. He was 38. Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play. Mims was discovered shortly before 9:30 a.m. by police officers conducting a welfare check, police said.

Frank Cornish IV, an offensive lineman on two of the Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl champion teams in the 1990s, died over the weekend at age 40. Cornish was pronounced dead Saturday morning at a Grapevine hospital, where he was taken from his home in nearby Southlake. His death was caused by heart disease, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office found.

PHOENIX — A 23-year-old woman found fatally shot in a Phoenix alley has been identified as the daughter of former NFL lineman Luis Sharpe, authorities said Thursday.
The body of Leah Tamara Sharpe was discovered early Tuesday by a neighborhood resident and police said investigators believe it was dumped there.
Detective Bob Ragsdale, a Phoenix police spokesman, said there was no identification on the body when it was found and identification came through fingerprints following an autopsy. more…

CLEVELAND — Veteran offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi, released by the Cleveland Browns last month after two seasons with the club, has been diagnosed with a treatable form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
His agent, Joe Linta, said Friday that the 31-year-old Andruzzi has begun getting chemotherapy treatments at the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, a hospital for which he helped raise money while playing for the New England Patriots.

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Former Detroit Lions lineman John Gonzaga, who was working in a steel mill when he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 1956, has died. He was 74.
Gonzaga died Thursday at his home in the Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield Township, according to the Lions and McCabe Funeral Home in Farmington Hills.

The Browns signed free agent G/C Seth McKinney to a one-year contract.McKinney was a 2002 3rd round pick by the Miami Dolphins out of Texas A&M. He has played all 5 years of his career with Miami, starting 34. He's listed as 6'3" and 305 lbs.My guess is that he will compete for a starting guard spot and also serve as a backup to C Hank Fraley. One possible scenario: If RT Ryan Tucker is unable to return and Eric Steinbach is moved to tackle, then this acquisition becomes even more important as McKinney would then likely start at guard.
