The final installment of what is known as Gus Van Sant's 'Death Trilogy' brings the story of a rockstar who seems to have lost himself, a story loosly based on the life and especially the last days of musician Kurt Cobain. Last Days is an ambitious work, like the former Gerry and Elephant, but probably the weakest one of the three. Still there is a lot of things to like. The problem though is that like Gerry the movie more feeds from narrativity than a real chronological story. There are a lot of shots of Blake, the film's main character, walking zombie like to the woods, mumbling words that are almost unrecognizable. There seems to be more chronologicallity than in Gerry though, but still lots of the movie is open to interpretation. Showing its characters from a distance, the camera hardly moves. The only movement comes from zooms and pans. Only sometimes does the camera move through its surroundings, but most of the time it's placed in one spot being completely static. It create

Instead of working on my portrait or finishing off my taxes, Dallas and I decided to take advantage of a warm sunny winter's day and go bushwalking at Mt Barney national park near Rathdowney and the NSW/QLD border. The scenery is nothing spectacular - mainly dry eucalypt forest and millions of granite boulders but it was lovely to get out of the city and into the fresh air. Most of the walks in the park are of an extreme grade involving unmarked tracks and mountain climbing, but we found an easy 3 hour return walk to a small pool in a granite gorge. I'm thinking of doing a painting in the future of the area incorporating the main shapes of tall skinny trees, round boulders and blackboys.
Tomorrow I will definately get back to the portrait now that I have finished work and don't have to attend classes until Thursday.

As I write this, my kids’ last day of school is days away. While I begin to worry about how I’m going to find quiet time to write or how to keep them off the computers and Xbox, convince them to clean out the cat box and run the vacuum, I also start thinking about my own last days of school.In elementary school, the last day meant Popsicle and bubble gum parties, and eating lunch on the lawn. I’d stuff my book bag to overflowing with art projects and workbooks, papers. At home I’d spend hours reading over my old papers. I loved the workbooks, because we never seemed to finish them during the school year. I finished them over the summer. The end of the school year also meant half empty composition books that had to be filled up.High school was a bit different. I couldn’t wait for the last day to arrive, for all my finals to be finished. Summer vacation meant being carefree. Gosh...can't believe its been over two months here in nyc...and in another five days...I'd be leaving here....its mixed feelings......but its still 5 more days...so i guess theres no time to think about it...and really just get the most out these last five days!On another note! I got to go on a road trip today with my buddy Jeff to Atlantic City, NJ. "AC" as known by locals is a mini version of Las Vagas. While not as expansive as LV, it still got some really fancy casinos like trump, taj mahal, cesears...etc. So yea...our day was very simple, got there.....gambled, ate, gambled...then went home. I think in total i spent about 4 hours on the roulette and two hours eating....was fun. Earned some cash...not much....but happy.
