Because I didn't feel like waiting until tonight to post this up (and to give more time to the winners to write their articles), I will now post the results for round 3. Nothing really went unexpected this round. The final round will be down to the popular vote and the underdog. So here are the results:Asami Yamazaki Vs. Cherry Darling.Fletch's Cherry Darling (Planet Terror) has made it through yet again, finally knocking the twisted Asami (Audition) out of the game 4 to 2.Kyra Vs. The Bride. It was a match of luck versus popularity. Kyra has scraped through the competition based on luck of the draw, and The Bride has been, by far, the most popular contestant. And in what I believe to be an easy win based on popularity alone (and in the most-voted-for match of the round), The Bride beat out

A confluence of events led to not only a weekend spent with some LAMBs (virtually and in reality), but also to the usage of the word "confluence," which isn't one that I get to use very often. Let me explain. To start off the weekend, I got an email from Mikey Filmmaker of Spaghetti Sauce and Sweet Peas. Mikey had seen that I was from Phoenix, and it just so happened that a film he produced, I Saved the World from Global Warming, was being played at the Phoenix Film Festival (which, like the formerly titled Phoenix Open, is actually held in Scottsdale, but whatever). As a bonus, Mikey was planning on road-tripping from the City of Angels with some of his fellow filmmaking buddies to catch the screening. Mrs. Fletch and I were planning on hitting the festival this weekend at some point (

In anycase, I managed to crawl out of bed and catch this game. All I have to say is that it was bloody worth it.And if you've noticed (you must have), I've screwed around with the presentation of this report with slightly more details. It's probably not going to be very permanent since it's helluva lot of work and I'm generally helluva lazy.My initial reaction to facing the crybabies after
Two months ago, I went to a screening of Robert Redford's film "Lion for Lambs" (written by Matthew Michael Carnahan). I mentally gave it an 'E' for effort and decided not to review the film at length. I was glad that Redford tried, tried to engage current events, tried to make a point or two about the failures of politics and the media when it comes to our mistakes in Iraq. The movie certainly had a talented cast, but the three related storylines failed to constitute a coherent vision. Every storyline has its problems. Redford plays a professor. Two of his former students are in Iraq, a storyline which is supposed to concretize the anti-war discussions but seems out of place, as though scenes left over from an action movie were spliced into another film. The Streep/Cruise journalist-meets
Just yesterday (22nd December) was Bakri eid and thanks to that I got an extra day off from work so I am thankful. But since this is the 'politically incorrect' blog where I am supposed to call a spade a spade, I'd like to take this moment and space in the universe of on-line ether to pray and express sorrow and compassion for the millions of goats/sheeps who lost their lives yesterday; sacrificed in the name of religion and festivities. Oh I am soooo sory for the sacrficial lambs and remember their throats not chopped off but painfully slit away with kinives which are blunted from all the throat-slitting since morning. In their religion they call it halaal, for me it's just draconian, inhuman foolishness. Not just on part of the people who do this but on part of all the rest of us as well who allow this madness to continue. Actually to be honest this 'Eid ul zhua was the first one I celebrated with a couple of muslim friends in my life and after witnessing all the slaughter, I d
To Muslims here in America, it is a ritual, the "festival of sacrifice." To Eddie Rowe it was a way to make some extra cash at his hog farm. To the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, it constituted an illegal and unsanitary slaughter facility. The Muslim families that live in "Research Triangle," from Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill have an annual tradition. After morning services of the first day of Eid al-Adha-"the festival of sacrifice"--families would meet up at local hog farm to slit the throats of goats and lambs. To research scientist Ahmed Mamai, 40, a native Moroccan, performing the sacrifice on Rowe's property allows him to maintain an ancient tradition that would be difficult to square with his lifestyle in suburban Raleigh. If he slaughtered an animal in his backyard, Mamai said with a smile, "My wife would sacrifice me."The farmer, Eddie Rowe, had sold 250 of the animals at up to $160 a piece. After Rowe was served with a restraining order from
Lions for Lambs is a Robert Redford film. The film sells and prides itself on three big names in Hollywood: Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. From the trailer, I thought Lions for Lambs is an action movie. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. This movie is more like a propaganda talking about the war in the Middle East. They talked about it from every angle, well, almost every angle. They showed the government, the media, the troops and the American citizens’ point of views. In Lions for Lambs, you can hear how the government tried to justify their act. And you can try to understand why some boys volunteered to be drafted. You can also see the media’s suspicions and their ignorant. And you can hear the American debate between a professor and his student about the war.Lets see.. How do I write this review about being blatantly obvious about how much anti American government I am? I mean, when it comes to the middle east war issue. Forgive me, honestly, I never agree with the war on the first place and let just admit, we all know that this war is just a power struggle and greed for the oil. And I think it's pointless. It

I watched the movie last weekend. “Lions for Lambs” is a 90-minute movie of intense and rather intellectual dialogues between the different characters – Senator Irving (Tom Cruise) and a journalist named Janine (Meryl Streep), the same actor in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”. “Lions For Lambs” is really a movie of more talk than action. It attempts to expose the truth that is nothing new to many people: The politicians who defend their ideals with plastic faces, the media companies that work with the government on the war of propaganda, the soldiers (lions) who fight for the country that does not even take care of them in the first place and also activists who try to motivate the politically apathetic citizens(lambs) like the “ace” student Todd. In my opinion, it’s not that the scripts are so poorly-written but dialogues are too loaded. It tries to explain the US foreign policy on war on terrorism but too much conversations are presented at one go in such a sho
Since this movie was most expected movie of the week, considering all the marketing, I was surprised to see that the movie theater on the opening night was half empty.
Lions For Lambs is directed by Robert Redford. It’s a movie with three parallel contemporary stories happening at the same time in the span of several hours of a morning. One story is about a progressive UC political science professor, also played by Robert Redford, trying to inspire his talented student Todd (Andrew Garfield) to… visit his classes. Second story is about a congressman (Tom Cruise) who gives one-on-one interview to a news channel reporter (Meryl Streep) about the new strategy in Afghanistan, where two wounded soldiers, former students of the professor mentioned above, who volunteered to go to Afghanistan, are being directly affected by the new strategy.
Considering the cast and the reputation of the director, I was disappointed to see less then strong performances for very strong actors

The bodies are really starting to pile up pretty high outside of DoJ. I wonder how bad the stench of rotting corpses will have to get before the White House accepts Alberto Gonzales retirement or resignation. They somehow always forget Bill Clintons lesson: It's not getting the blowjob that gets you in trouble. Its the LYING about getting a blow job that gets you in trouble. In this case if the administration had just said These people serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States and we can hire and fire them at will most likely nothing would have been said further. All Presidents do this. In this case its the probable cover-up and obstruction of justice thats the issue now. I expect the bodies will have to pile up a bit more before the White House takes any real action. Tomorrow, being Good Friday, begs for a trip to the Broadway Market. Today I am finalizing my plans for Easter Dinner and can think of no better place to procure the necessary ingredients.
The selection of fresh meats alone is reason enough to make the trip. I’m thinking of putting together a traditional Polish dinner together, including some fresh polish sausage. Another must have food item is Placek, the wonderful Polish crumb cake that is a perfect accompaniment to your morning coffee. There is no better way to start of a special day at home with family. Also on the list is come chruskici from the EM CHRUSCIKI Bakery. It is a wonderful treat for snacking.
The Market is open tomorrow from 6am to 7pm. Make sure to take a few extra dollars, you will be tempted by many of the unique offerings. Click photos for large versions.
