The title has now been taken (subject to official approval by the Guinness Book Of Records) by the SSC (Shelby Supercars) Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo. The car made two runs down a stretch of Nevada highway, with one run in each direction in accordance with Guinness Book of Records rules. The first run clocked 257.11mph, the second 254.55mph. The average: 255.83mph.The Aero is an altogether more brutal and functional creation than the Veyron - it lacks the luxury, panache and history of the Franco-German masterpiece. Awhile back I installed something on the XP machine and it knocked out my internet connection. Did some digging around to no avail so eventually went to reinstall the BT client which I had a CD for. Except that it was lost, not something that I usually do. Before I got a new disc I used Microsoft’s Wireless Zero Configuration service which enabled me to connect. But the service needed manually starting every time I rebooted despite me setting the startup type to auto. I eventually rang BT for a new disc which they promised I’d get within 3 days. A week later I called them again for a disc. The support person didn’t really understand what I wanted as I could here her talking to one of her colleagues about it and the other support person came on the line and asked why I wanted it. I told him, and as is the way with support they tend to have the attitude that most users aren’t too bright, he responded why didn’t I just download the necessary files from one o

Operation Harris Ba'sil has wrapped up after helping knock enemy forces in Iraq's western Anbar province off balance, officials involved in the operation reported today. Regimental Combat Team 2 and elements of the Iraqi army's 7th Division completed the operation after eight weeks of interdicting and disrupting enemy routes and safe havens outside major cities along the Euphrates River valley, the team's operations officer said. The operation, dubbed "Valiant Guardian," involved nearly 4,000 Marines, soldiers and sailors covering most of the 30,000 square miles of RCT 2's operating area. "We uncovered over 250 caches, arrested over 250 suspected insurgents and discovered over 100 improvised explosive devices," said Lt. Col. Michael Manning, RCT 2's operations officer. "We clearly surprised them. The number of caches and detainees attest to that, but more importantly, we let the enemy know that they can't hide from us." Generally people believe that in order to win a baseball game you have to have sound fundamentals:  Pitching, Hitting and Defense.  Last night the Twins put their own twist on that philosophy.  Trailing 2-1 in the 7th inning the Twins put a 5-spot on the board against Jarrod Washburn.  The inning started with three perfectly executed bunts.  Jason Bartlett’s drag bunt put him on first.  Then came Alexi Castilla’s infield bunt.  Nick Punto finished the job by executing a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd base.  Hometown hero Joe Mauer was walked and Cuddy smoked the ball to the gap to score two runs. By the end of the inning, Washburn was replaced and the Twins put up 5 on the Mariners.  At that point, Santana was set up for the win. He was strong again last night where he pitched 7 innings giving up 2 runs on four hits while striking out 7.  Typical night. Sorry about the title, I really couldn't help myself.  As many of you may know, at Quirk we take our cricket pretty seriously. The office is full of obsessives, regularly arguing the merits of the current South African squad, who should be dropped, who should be selected, and who should bat where. In short, we’re a real bunch of armchair coaches. So it should come as no surprise that the World Cup has caused more than it’s fair share of excitement. We have a private league on the Sky Sports Fantasy Cricket League, (which I’m fairly confident I'll win),  and we’re all busy running around, debating which team South Africa will face in the finals.
