Director Wim Wenders and writer Sam Shepard, who collaborated on the award-winning film Paris, Texas, once again join forces for this dark drama of a man trying to turn over a new leaf late in life. Howard Spence (Sam Shepard) is a veteran actor who has been a popular Western star since the mid-'70s. Spence's onscreen image as a strong, principled lawman is a severe contrast to his life off the se

I just answered a call from a woman who posed this question, “What do I do when someone is driving by, sees the house is for sale, tells me their pre-approved and wants to come in and look at it?”
She went on to tell me that this scenario recently happened to her and that the [...]
So, Sunday afternoon, clipboard and voter list in hand, I spent 3 hours sweating for Barack. I canvassed my neighborhood, when possible engaging neighbors - the ones riding the fence mostly - about why I am supporting Barack Obama for President. It's become my Sunday afternoon ritual. I, and whoever else signs up or just decides to come, meet my town's field organizer at the local public library
My quest, I see now, involves integrating history, spirituality and something beyond what I knew into a world of love, compassion and affirmation, the Kingdom of God. Answering the call of Jesus, I need to ask new questions, and stay with them. I want to tell a theological history of my life through spiritual questions. What is a human being? What is love? How do I define myself? What are the expe

Jeesh! I’m no fan of the Osteens but c’mon. One very lucky Continental Airlines stewardess, Sharon Brown, is suing Victoria Osteen for 10% of her net worth. The lucky stewardess claims that during a dispute over possibly sloppy airline service Osteen became angry, pushed the stewardess aside and elbowed her in the left [...]

Port knocking is a clever new computer security trick. It's a way to configure a system so that only systems who know the "secret knock" can access a certain port. I'm so desperate to have internet access from home that I actually went knocking from door-to-door at my neighbors homes today to see if anyone would let me access their wifi signal. It was like a scene from Dicken's Oliver except instead of a little orphan with an empty bowl, it was me with my laptop.
Two neighbors very generously let me try, but my computer just wouldn't launch a webpage
Ideally you should knock in any new cricket bat for at least six hours, yes it's a lot but it will help condition your bat for heavy usage without damaging it. You should also knock-in your new cricket bat even if it comes advertised as 'ready to play', as it still won't be ready for the full force of a hard new cricket ball, especially if you catch an edge or the ball hits the toe. I've seen play

Madonna certainly turned heads as she strutted her way into the CBS studios yesterday draped in gold chains and dramatic fur coat as she continued her promotional blitz for her new album Hard Candy. The album is not doing well and Madonna is pulling out all the stops to help promote it. Madonna continues to give "the shock" value. Why does she feel her album cannot stand on it's own and needs her to behave the way she did in the video with Justin.

Critics say Greenspan, under whom U.S. rates went from 6.5 percent in late 2000 to 1 percent in mid-2003, eased policy too much and then took too long to tighten again. That, they say, spurred excessive mortgage borrowing and stoked the housing bubble that is now the root cause of the credit crisis. But Greenspan said the Fed cut rates to spur growth and prevent deflation and, at that time, dissenting votes on the policy committee were from those who wanted rates even lower. Analysts also blame Greenspan for failing to press for stricter rules for bank lending to consumers with weaker credit records, and for not anticipating the subprime mortgage meltdown. "I was praised for things I didn't do," Greenspan told the newspaper. "I am now being blamed for things that I didn't do." &nbs

This past weekend I celebrated my 30th birthday by driving to Ohio and canvassing for the Barack Obama campaign. Since I live in Nashville, Tennessee, the Cincinnati area was the most accessible to me. Canvassing was just starting up there and my wife and I signed up for events in the suburbs of Milford and West Chester. These areas are very hostile for any Democratic candidate; both counties (Clermont and Butler) voted 2-to-1 for President Bush in 2004.The atmosphere indicated by the past election results was confirmed by many of our fellow volunteers. Amy, the organizer of the canvassing event in Milford, told us that many people in her neighborhood just check the name with the "R" next to it without knowing anything about the candidates. Still, Amy told us that she had success

The following post is installment #2 of the 5-part Leap of Faith Fridays series cooked up by my good friend Christine at Chicken Fried Therapy. This week's post is a rare video treat: me getting pummeled. And for once, by someone other than my kid.
Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. Christopher Robin to Pooh A. A. Milne quotes Winters in Montana call for resiliency, in constitution and bodyStatements about resiliency: Resiliency is about who you are while stress management is about what you do.Resiliency occurs on a continuum (it's not an either/or proposition).Resiliency is related to a person's overall growth and development. Our level of resiliency (at that moment) is evident in how we respond to a stressor.Resiliency grows through healthy resonses to stressors. So, how we handle the storm not only reveals our current level of resiliency, it also can build it upEvery problem/challenge is really an opportunity in worth clothesI once had a boss w
People who visit this blog are aware of the problems I’ve had with smart. For months I tried to get broadband in my home but couldn’t as Smart had messed up a previous order and retained ownership of my line.
Well throughout the course of that I never actually received a broadband service from Smart and yet they continue to bill me. I was talking to their representative Ann-Marie and she said she would sort it out. Well surprise surprise recently I have received a letter from debt collectors acting on behalf of Smart saying they will initiate legal action to get money from me for a service they didn't provide!
I told the collector on the phone not to call me again unless it is with a summons where I will get an opportunity to lay out my grievances.

There was this Toyota factory worker who collapsed and died due to overworking in Central Japan on February 2002. He said to have logged in more than 106 hours of overtime in a month. In fact he said to have worked far more than that. His widow has been fighting for his work-related death. But recently, the court has reversed a ministry's earlier decision not to pay compensation to his widow. In Japan, overworking is a common issue, where an average worker uses less than 50 percent of paid holidays. Those of you bloggers who have been slogging long hours pounding your keyboards, you better beware. Grim Reaper could be pounding on your door. He could be hot on your heels. FBI committed to stop the cyber criminals, the 'Bot Roast' operation is meant to stop the cyber criminals and, especially, the botnet owners, who attempt to controlnumerous computers from all over the world and launch web attacks. According to the FBI officials, since June when the campaign has started, no less than 8 individuals have been identified and some of them have even been sent to prison after they pleaded guilty. As far I can see, many of the individuals identified by the FBI were pretty young, as 3 of them were 21 years old."Today, botnets are the weapon of choice of cyber criminals. They seek to conceal their criminal activities by using third party computers as vehicles for their crimes. In Bot Roast II, we see the diverse and complex nature of crimes that are being committed through the use of botnets. Despite this enormous challenge, we will continue to be aggressive in finding those responsible for attempting to exploit unknowing Internet users," FBI Director, Robert

In my last post I reminded home exchangers to leave home security information plainly visible for exchange guests. It's even more important during the long hours of darkness in winter to make sure your home looks occupied when it's not to reduce your chances of a break-in. Having guests living in your home is certainly much safer than leaving it empty but they are on holiday and so are still likely be out much of the time during the day.
Ironically, as both my husband and I have home based offices, and our home is thus rarely empty and so less vulnerable to burglaries, I fell victim to a scam last week precisely because I was at home late afternoon and my scammer could see a light in my office from the street.
The well spoken woman, late 30s/early 40s, said she was so glad to find a neighbour at home as she was in a panic and didn't know who to turn to. Her story was that she was just moving in across the street (the large houses there are divided into flats and I don't know
By: victory Though the general rules of Gin-Rummy are simple - take a card, discard a card - but gin rummy is far more complex to learn, is more strategic game than most people realize. Below I have listed the "10 commandments" of Gin-Rummy strategy: 1. Play to knock As quickly as possible, develop a hand consisting of melds, a triangle, and a knock cache. When you hit one of the four cards needed to create a meld from the triangle, you can knock. When playing Oklahoma, you should evaluate this rule based on the knock card; the closer to ten it is, the more applicable the rule. 2. If you're going to knock, knock! If you are not playing to gin, knock as soon as possible. Every delay gives your opponent a chance to beat you to the knock. This is the most commonly violated rule in gin rummy (as well as in life generally). 3. Always pick up a meld If your opponent's discard makes or increases a meld in your hand, pick it up. This improves your point count and brings you closer to the goa
If They call the Boston Red Sox march to the pennant back in 1967 "The Impossible Dream" the 2007 A.L.C.S. would have to be labeled the "Improbable Comeback." After taking game one of the series from the Cleveland Indians, Boston spent games 2,3, and 4, looking like characters from a George Romero movie "Dawn of the Living Dead Ballplayers." Cleveland won an extra inning game in game two and dominated in games 3 and 4. Boston had to win all the three remaining games left in the series to make it back to the World Series for the first time since breaking the curse in 2004.Well although it was not the unprecedented comeback they made against the New York Yankees as they had to win four games to come back from the edge of the abyss it was pretty darn close. But after Josh Beckett who was named A.L.C.S. MVP won game five and the ancient warrior Curt Schilling won game six it was a one game series knotted up at three each.Game Seven came down to Dice-K being just good enough to get a win tw
Warning - UPSET Alert: UPSET City continued a trend and was front and center once again in Piscataway, New Jersey, as Rutgers outlasted South Florida 30-27 in a tight battle. WR Tiquan Underwood (5 catches, 114 yards, for 2 TD’s) showed why he may be the Rutgers’ MVP this season and their most overlooked star, as he made big plays when it counted and when the Scarlet Knights needed it the most, coming through in the clutch when the game was on the line in critical situations.
The surprisingly 2nd ranked South Florida team, a squad who came out of nowhere, making it to the top of the football world when nobody thought they could reach a high pinnacle, were beaten by a team that’s getting good at taking out national title contenders (#3 Louisville - 2006).
Third-string quarterback Andrew DePaola threw a 15-yard touchdown pass off a fake field goal to give the Scarlet Knights the lead in the third quarter and Rutgers also used a fake punt to set up an early field

I've been here, knocking at your door. And you are not answering. Knocking. Dear God, where are you? Why do you not answer me? Knocking. For six long years I have been here. Knocking. Pleading for you to let me in and take away my pain. Knocking. I can barely stand I'm in such anguish. And I'm still knocking.Knocking. Why do you ignore me? Knocking. I don't know how much longer I can hold on. Knocking.
I got myself a new pair of glasses on my last trip to Singapore. According to my optician, my power had decreased which sounded like good news. But suddenly, something struck me. Could this be an indication of 'long sightedness' - oh no! I know my DH hasn't got over the fact that he needs those reading glasses and I'm not about to come close to that.Oops... how does it feel to have reading glasses when you pass 40? Ahem.. I'm not 40 yet hor!

Daniel Baldwin - whom you may remember from arrests for cocaine, grand theft auto, crashing into parked cars on a suspended license, etc. etc. - is about to be the proud father of a fourth child. For Danny boy has knocked up the chef that was cooking up his food in rehab:
The Mulholland Falls star revealed all about his battle to get clean after 18 years of drug addiction in a series of confessional video diaries, which aired on the TV news show Primetime on Tuesday night.
However what he didn’t reveal is his live-in lover is the woman who cooked his meals during his stay at $50,000 -a-month rehab facility Renaissance Malibu in California. TV news bosses at ABC, where the show was aired, reveal the father-of-three is expecting his fourth child with the chef, who quit her job at the rehab facility after discovering she was pregnant.

We are all wrong from time to time. And when Brad May sucker punched Kim Johnsson on April 17 during the Ducks-Wild series, it may or may not have been right, but it seems to me now that the biggest wrong was the press jumping all over May, calling him mindless, untalented, and having no place in hockey. I wasn't having any part of that and defended May on a site I won't name, and I received flack for it. Well who's right now? It was the likes of Brad May and Travis Moen who began crunching the Sens last night, hitting them at every turn, and like Getzlaf said, changing the momentum of the game. Thats right, Brad May. He may only be getting just over 6 minutes of icetime per game but really, his line could be used more. They also generate a lot of quality chances with their tenacious forecheck.May was potentially wrong for his actions with Johnsson, and maybe he wasn't. I still say Johnsson was skating around the rough stuff and could have done something to antagonize an easily an
On Saturday when I started my XP PC the wallpaper was displayed but then startup seemed to stall for a minute before the desktop icons were displayed. I decided to conveniently ignore it.
On Sunday when starting up the same PC the same thing happened and I also noticed a knocking sound coming from the hard drive. Eventually it did boot OK. Obviously Windows was having trouble reading from the hard drive which sooner or later would probably turn out to be terminal. Time to panic a bit.
Downloaded Spinrite v6 on the Vista PC, which was delivered as an ISO file, which I wrote to a CD as a bootable disk. Put the CD in the XP PC and rebooted. Didn’t reboot from the CD. Spent 10 minutes trying to find out what the key sequence was to access the bios. Set the bios to try and boot from the CD before the C: drive and rebooted. Still booted from the C: drive. Went back into the bios and told it to only boot from the CD drive and totally ignore the C: or D: drive and rebooted. Still booted
I suppose that every hometown of every child holds certain favorite hiding places, or short cuts, or little-known doors or cubbyholes or secret passageways or whatever, and Auburn was no exception. One of my favorite such places was the train tunnel that ran under Palm Avenue and the Auburn reservoir, and came out just this side of Gasoline Alley, a wide spot on Highway 49 about a mile north of where I lived. Tales of being caught in the tunnel when the train came were standard Auburn lore; one of my older cousins' cousin swore that he got caught one day with the train coming, and had to lie flat on his stomach between the tracks while the train passed over him. I believed him until I was about ten or so, when I started to notice that each time he told the story some of the details were different, such as whether it was night or day, with friends or alone; that sort of thing. Being somewhat timid by nature, I never would have taken the dare to run through the tunnel if I was a
Consumers considering a home purchase should contact a Realtor® to take advantage of the current environment now. Although most sellers are still seeing a very good return on their investment, with a median of more than 50 percent appreciation over the past six years, some home buyers are worried about the timing of their investment. As inventories rise, many buyers have increased negotiating power, but are unsure of how to structure the best deal. Sellers need help positioning their homes in a competitive marketplace and in attracting and engaging serious buyers.
"Homeownership is a safe, secure way to build long-term wealth," said Combs, vice president of Coldwell Banker-AJS-Schmidt in Grand Rapids, Mich. "Buyers and sellers have different concerns as their local markets change, but our Realtor® members handle hundreds, if not thousands, of real estate transactions over the course of their careers, and can counsel and guide consumers through the process. Countries that rely only on oil as a source for their energy, will be in big trouble in few years time. The sooner these countries realise this and take action the better it is. The answer is alternative energy, be it Ethanol, Solar, Wind, Liquid Coal, Hydroelectricity, Geothermal or Ocean thermal energy.

Alternative energy is still a big question mark in U.S.
There's been a lot of discussion about office attire here. I actually feel pretty good about my work clothes. It's my hanging around the house, going to the supermarket clothes that I have trouble with. I can't even find jeans that fit. For years I've been wearing tee shirts and sport knit pants from Lands End (this was pre-sewing me) or stretch corduroys in winter. The sport knits are interlock, fairly loose fitting, with elastic waist. They feel good, but look pretty sloppy, especially after some wear, and going baggy in the knees. I am dying for a change, but don't want to sacrifice comfort in my kicking-back clothes.
What do you-all wear, especially those of you "of a certain age," with some spread in the waistline? Any good easy patterns for bottoms? How about fabric choi
