Microsoft ha confirmado que el Service Pack 1 para Vista incorpora el mismo kernel que Server 2008.Según DiarioTi Server 2008 y Vista SP1 ejecutan el mismo código. Por lo visto Microsoft esta vez estará lanzando un "parche" realmente grande y ya muchos están especulando sobre cuan estable será este Sistema Operativo pues la "actualización" del Kernel tendrá impacto sobre funcionamiento de prácticamente todos sus componentes.Hablando en términos mecánicos, será como un carro (coche) con motor nuevo. Habrá que ver y esperar que asienten las válvulas, ir con cuidado y no pisar mucho el acelerador hasta cierto kilometraje.Adri@nx

In seguito a una lunga fase di test Linus Torvalds ha finalmente pubblicato la versione 2.6.24 del kernel Linux, una versione ricca di novità.Per ultimare questo kernel a Torvalds sono occorsi 3 mesi e mezzo, la patch da 2.6.23 a 2.6.24 è la più grande mai realizzata. L'obiettivo prefisso era di omogeneizzare le architetture i386 e x86_64 e creare la nuova architettura x86. In questo modo andrebbero ridotte le ridondanze del codice e l'assistenza verrebbe facilitata. Dopo Andi Kleen sono Thomas Gleixner, Ingo Molnar e H. Peter Anvin a gestire il codice semplificato.
