Dell will continue to install Windows XP on new PCs after Microsoft's June 30 retirement date by taking advantage of a little-known clause in the downgrade rights that come with Vista Ultimate and Vista Business. "Dell has the ability to exercise 'Windows Vista downgrade rights' on your behalf in the factory if ... you'd prefer to have Windows XP Professional preinstalled on your PCs," Dell said on its Web site. According to Dell, it will factory install XP after June 18 when customers choose a "Vista Ultimate Bonus" or "Vista Business Bonus" option as they configure PCs. As you probably know already, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003 have built-in support for FAT32-formatted partitions (Windows NT 4.0 did not). Although these operating systems can read, write and boot from FAT32 partitions, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 have a maximum size limit of 32GB for creating such partitions. The above paragraph means that you CAN use any FAT32 partition you want, no matter it's size, however you CANNOT create FAT32 partitions larger than 32GB in size. Also, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003 do NOT have a native utility that can be used to convert FAT16 partitions to FAT32. There is a way to trick Windows 2000, XP or Windows Server 2003 into using FAT32 partitions bigger then 32GB. Here is how you do it: Get a Win98 boot disk.
This procedure was performed on FAT32 drives but it should also work for NTFS. Install Windows 2000 Use a Win98/Me Startup disk (with CD support) to boot your computer. If you don't have one, you can download the files to make a boot disk at www.bootdisk.com Insert your Windows 2000 CD into the CD Rom drive. At the A: prompt type X:\I386\WINNT.EXE where X: is your CD-ROM drive. Proceed with the install. Install Windows 2000 to a different partition than XP is installed in. Complete the Windows install. Allow the computer to boot into Windows 2000. Repairing the Windows XP Boot Loader Note: Some users have reported that Step 1 is not necessary, but in testing I found that it was. Since the C: drive is FAT32, you can use a 98/Me bo
This procedure assumes that Windows XP is installed on drive C: Drive C: must be FAT16 or FAT32 to be able to install Windows 98 after XP is already installed. The 98/Me installation routine cannot write to an NTFS partition. You must have a second hard disk or partition formatted for FAT16/32 in order to be able to install Windows 98/Me. As always, installing 98/Me to the same partition as Windows XP is Not recommended! I recommend the use of a Windows 98 Startup disk for this procedure. You should ensure that DEBUG.EXE is on your Startup disk. On a 98 Startup disk, created from Add/Remove Programs, its in the EBD.CAB file on the Startup disk. For a 98 Startup disk created from FAT32EBD.EXE its on the floppy Installing Windows 98 Use a Win98 Startup disk (with CD support)
By now many of you may have seen reports of Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 in the wild. For a while, it was merely speculation (and several good hints) towards Release Candidate Refresh 2 (RCR2) being the Release to Manufacturer (RTM) build. There has been a ‘registry hack’ going around for a few days [...]
Ever since Apple switched over to Intel processor, the same processors that are used in some PCs, it has been possible to run Windows on the Apple hardware. Why would you want to do this? While OS X is a pretty OS, Windows applications will not run on it. The only way to run Windows applications on a Mac is to run Windows in a VM. With the Intel based Macs that changed. It is now possible to dual boot OS X and Windows so that you can simply reboot and startup in Windows. Removing the need for the VM by natively running Windows has a big performance benefit. It also makes it possible to do things that were not possible with virtualization software such a 3D gaming.
To dual boot Windows Vista and OS X without destroying OS X you will need to use Boot Camp that is only included in OS X 1.5 Leopard. To get started, you will need to follow these steps on your Mac: (more…)

This tips will explain how to install Windows Media Player 11 without having to Activate your windows copy / bypassing the WGA. This requires Winzip or any other .zip extracting program to be installed.Bypassing the activation when installing Windows Media Player 11 is pretty simple. Basically what we will do is download the setup file (.exe) and then extract its contents to a folder and manually run the two components needed to install and run Media Player 11.1. Download Windows Media Player 11. Go here to download:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx?displaylang=en&qstechnology=2. After you have the file downloaded (usually named: wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe), right-click on the File.If you have Winzip installed, go to the Winzip menu, and choose to Extract to Folder X:...wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enuA lot of .exe setup files are really just a self-executing zip file so you can use this method to extract files from .exe files with other installers too
