Inaugural Inside the Hall Podcast: You know, you know, you know
OK, so, hang with us here. Me and E hastily threw together a podcast last night, and well, there’s more than a few glitches. My mic messes up a few times (especially during the stripe out part), the editing is incredibly amateurish and I say “you know” about 2349234213123 times. But hey, we’re throwing it out there for the masses anyways. We plan on continuing these and they promise to get better. In the inaugural edition, we touch on all things Kentucky: Eric Gordon and whether he should suit up or not, the IU-UK rivalry and what the student section and fans will be wearing to the game. Let us know what sucks so we can make it better next time. You can get at it right here. (Next time we’ll hopefully get it in a nice little player on the front page here like this. Baby steps, friends.)

Reyna Takes Inaugural RBNY Least Valuable Player Award
This poll closed on Monday and I had every intention of posting an update with the results before a certain coaching change distracted me. Anyway this shouldn't come as a huge surprise seeing the huge lead he had going into the final day of polling, but Claudio Reyna has won the inaugural New York Red Bulls Least Valuable Player award. Congrats, Captain America!Reyna took 81 of 203, or nearly 40% of all votes cast. Markus Schopp was a distant second, taking 37 votes, which corresponds to 18.2% according to my math, which is probably wrong so take it with a grain of salt. Chris Leitch (28 votes, or 13.8%), Kevin Goldwaith (27, or 13.3%) and Ronald Waterreus (23, or 11.33%) followed in close succession. Santino Quaranta's 12 votes corresponded to about 5%. Hunter Freeman (3 votes), Jon Conway (2), Dane Richards and Seth Stammler (1 each) and the elusive "Other" (9 votes) completed the ballot.

Inaugural Blogger Q n' A: From College To The Pros
Like many soccer fanatics, Soccer Source is painfully clueless when it comes to the college game. With all the pro leagues to pay attention to, there simply isn't much time left for sleeping and eating and working a day job, much less following an entirely different niche of the sport. Yet many of these players will be drafted into MLS next year, and some have already featured on various youth national teams. What's more, the college season is entering its most crucial period (conference playoffs followed by the NCAA tournament) right now. What's a soccer blogger to do to get caught up? Easy. Interview somebody who knows a thing or two about the subject! My search for experts led me to Bonji, a Denver-based blogger who runs From College to the Pros, which focuses on young U.S. players and pays close attention to the NCAA. For anybody interested in up-and-coming soccer talent, particularly U.S. talent, From College to the Pros is a terrific resource. Bonji started following college s

      N-Word: The Inaugural Debate
Last Friday, we engaged in a public debate with one another about who can use the “n-word.” Held on the campus of North Central College, we spent an hour and a half pushing each other to consider the nuances of the debate, while some of the 130 audience members in attendance asked questions that further probed the difficulties of this contemporary issue.TWIR readers will recall that we have blogged on related topics a number of times in the past year. On March 2, we addressed New York City’s banning of the word. Then, on July 14, we addressed how the “ban-the-word” trend had been gaining more momentum. But our discussion Friday centered not on whether the word should be banned, but rather assuming that the word is to be used, who should be able to use it and under what circum

Beckham Effect? MLS Attendance At Highest Levels Since Inaugural Season
Did David Beckham cause this? Major League Soccer's average attendance going into the final weekend is at its highest level since 1996, the league's very first season, according to pitchinvasion.net. Pitch Invasion thanks Andy_B at Bigsoccer for the raw numbers, so I figure I will too. Thanks Andy B at Bigsoccer! In '96, average attendance was 17,306. This year it's 16,627, with 96.4% of games played. Expect sellouts at Toronto and L.A. to pad that number this weekend. It's only the second time average attendance has broken the 16,000 barrier (the last time being '96, when the league averaged 17,306 fans per game). The last time average attendance came this close to 16K was in '02, when it was 15,653. The worst average attendance year for the league? That would have been 2000, which incidentally was the New York franchise's best year on the field.Another very interesting tidbit supplied by Andy and pitchinvasion is the percentage of games that had fewer than 10,000 spectators. Our inaugural sport analysis - Preview of the World Cup Final
The eternal Cricket World Cup (all 7 weeks of it) comes to an end tomorrow when Australia take on Sri Lanka, drawing the curtain on what must be the longest tournament in sports history. Cricket, once called "Baseball on tranquilizers" by Robin Williams, has done little to change its image in the last 7 weeks (can anyone name the two teams who played in the first match?).But before the curtain draws, we have one more game, one more chance to rescue a tournament drowning in mediocrity. Australia, who have steam-rollered all before them, take on Sri Lanka, who, out of the only eight teams who can really claim to be a cricket nation, have looked most likely to upset the canary yellow juggernaut.Much depends on the toss of a coin, and with the Barbados pitch known to favour seam bowling, Australia appear to have the upper hand (if they didn't already), especially if they bowl first in seamer friendly conditions. This is however doing a disservice to Chaminda Vaas, one of the canniest and

      Inaugural Post
Hello there! I know that there is no one reading this yet, but I figured I should have something written. I’m starting up this blog with the hopes of tracking my running and training for a marathon. I’d eventually love to have a whole bit of the site where I could show graphs of my progress and schedules for runs, etc. Right now, however, it is a simple blog with a template design, and not much going on. I’m running this on Wordpress, which I have no experience with, so as I learn more, hopefully this will get more interesting. I also feel the need to tell you that I will be taking a month-long hiatus from running starting May 1, and probably lasting through the end of May… this is because I have a surgery scheduled that will preclude me from running for a while. It is part of my on-going transformation from a morbidly obese individual to a slim, althletic runner. Luckily, I’m almost there! Hopefully, this will be the last disruption to my life as far as

CNET Diary: Inaugural review, screen debut and a PS3
This has been a really exciting week. Everyone in the CNET Networks building is excited about our forthcoming office move (more on this in the next post) but my week has been, for me anyway, much more interesting. Two main things have happened for me this week. Firstly, I shot my debut ‘First Look’ video. Everyone in the team shoots one a week and each video focuses on whatever each of us considers to be the hottest product of that week. They’re a minute or so long and are a pretty easy-going overview, but by no means a review. Screen debuts are more fun than really, really fun stuff So anyway, I was really keen to make my first video awesome. I originally won my place on the Backstage Crew at CES by shooting my own parody of CNET’s First Look videos in my bedroom. It took me all day to set up a studio environment but I feel that it’s more than paid for itself! I also shot one on the CNET stage at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year as part of my win. I rec

Wonderful Colleen from In the Garden Online has finally filled the obvious void in the blogosphere by offering awards that recognise the gardening niche we're all a part of. I, like many bloggers noticed the absence of our favourite hobby (more popular than craft BTW - what's going on?) at the recent Bloggies. So, if you can't join them, beat 'em I say. So Colleen has produced the very impressive garden blog (and website) awards called the Mouse and Trowel Awards. Bloggers can vote for their peers in 8 categories for blogs and 5 for gardening websites with the winners to be announced on Sunday May 13. You have until Monday 15 April to get your nominations in but don't wait otherwise you may get caught up in the stampede. I'm so excited that this is finally happening and look forward to seeing the results. Kudos Colleen.
