      New iMacs arriving next week?
"Apple could be getting ready for the advent of the educational buying season with new iMacs. So says GeekSugar, which has a post up Thursday claiming Apple's about to tweak the all-in-one iMac desktop. It doesn't sound like much of an overhaul, just a speed bump to Intel's latest Penryn processors used by the MacBook and MacBook Pro and a larger hard drive, with no major design changes expected. Apple hasn't updated the iMac since introducing a new design for the lineup last August."[via cnet news]

New iMacs face widespread random freezing and lock up issues
ATI graphics forcing iMac freeze?Widespread problems being reported by new iMac ownersFrom the iPod Touch to the latest incarnation of the MacBooks, Apple just can’t seem to guarantee the quality of the product you will receive. It’s hit or miss as to whether the one you get will be without problems and it seems this has expanded to new iMacs as well.AppleInsider reports on the problems as well as users on Apple’s support forum that the new iMacs continue to run when the freezing occurs but it is not possible to control or switch programs without a reset. One person writes, “Whatever was going on at the time continues, so if you were listening to music it continues to play.”Some items on the system continue to respond such as the mouse and basic keyboard functions. The problem appears to be linked to the ATi Radeon HD graphics hardware and related drivers but this has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Some owners are able to reliably cause the freeze and for others it

      USA Today: New iMacs Mac-nificent
Apple’s svelte iMac computers always turn heads. But I’m also smitten with the Mac’s rock solid OS X operating system and top-shelf iLife software suite — programs that tame pictures, videos and more. Last week, Apple (AAPL) unveiled beautiful new iMac models. And it introduced the iLife ‘08 lineup that is preloaded free on those machines (or sold separately for $79). Apple trotted out the new computers and software a mere two months or so before releasing the next version of OS X, dubbed Leopard. Read more.

Apple’s next-generation iMacs to add a touch of grace
AppleInsider has learned that Apple’s popular line of iMac personal computers are about to undergo a substantial facelift that will showcase striking new industrial designs aimed at leaving both competitors and onlookers smitten. People familiar with the matter say the Cupertino-based Mac maker has called upon its award-winning design chief Jonathan Ive and his team to cut the fat from the the current iMac line and outfit a pair of new Core 2 Duo-based models in a form factor that will be both slimmer and sleeker than today’s offerings. For Apple, the impending iMac makeover will represent the first major industrial design overhaul to hit its flagship all-in-one consumer desktop line in nearly three years. The last eye candy to accompany an iMac update came back in August of 2004, when the company retired its “sunflower” iMac G4 design while introducing the portrait-style iMac G5. Full story
