Hurricane season doesn’t “officially” start until June 1st. But, I noticed at Home Depot this week, people are already preparing. I saw one man buying a 3500 watt generator that was 40% off. After a hurricane, those things are worth their weight in gold. I bought one in April of 2006. After dealing with the heat and humidity that we got as a parting gift from Hurricane Katrina, I decided
In spite of the devastation, there were no "hurricane prevention" bills. Congress recognized that while the emergency response could be improved, hurricanes cannot be prevented. We are now facing a devastating storm in the housing market. Unlike Katrina, this storm cannot be considered an "act of God". Mistakes by government, lenders, buyers and builders caused it- but it cannot be legislated away. Housing will not be "rescued", but Congress continues to try:

Provides confirmation that climate change intensifies stormsHurricanes in some areas, including the North Atlantic, are likely to become more intense as a result of global warming even though the number of such storms worldwide may decline, according to a new study by MIT researchers.Kerry Emanuel, the lead author of the new study, wrote a paper in 2005 reporting an apparent link between a warming climate and an increase in hurricane intensity. That paper attracted worldwide attention because it was published in Nature just three weeks before Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans.Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, says the new research provides an independent validation of the earlier results, using a completel

Today was the nitty gritty phase of my training to set a 5K pr: Intervals.Four sets of 1,000-meters with a rest period of 3:30 in between each interval. The rest period is so you can recover, get your heart rate back to under 75 percent. It was 65 degrees. Humid. And windy. Very windy. (This is tornado season in Texas, right?)I probably should have skipped this workout on the weather alone, but off I went. And I felt good on the first interval, which I completed in 4:13. (A 6:48 minute-mile pace). This was against the wind. I was feeling confident. So on the second 1,000-meter interval, with the wind, I popped a 4:01 (6:29 pace). That's fast. But I wasn't feeling too good. I wanted to throw up and my heart rate was still over 85 percent by the time I started the third interval. And it was again

When we came to Sequim in September 2005 for our 12-night Sequim vacation to check out the town for moving there, we not only checked out 'Sequim Homes for Sale' but also visited Hurricane Ridge, which is on top of the best things to do in Sequim. It was quite an experience for us people from warm Hawaii. The first snow of the season made it even more impressive. We were not the only visitors who had not expected snow so early in fall but hey these are the Olympic Mountains with hurricane Ridge elevation of 5240ft. A lot of the tourists showed up in shorts and short sleeves. We were at least in long pants and wore anoraks, which allowed us to stay longer and enjoy the spectacular views! The below photos are all from yesterday! Now being Sequim residents, you bet we don't only ta

I like to read. When I have nothing else to do, I usually look for a book to give me some entertainment. I went to a book sale a few days ago to look for a new novel. But a hard bound book caught my eye. It was a book entitled Hurricane. Now, I know about a famous boxer nicknamed Hurricane, and so I decided to examine the book. To my surprise it was about the boxer that the book reminded me of. It was a biography of Rubin "hurricane" Carter, a top middle weight contender in the sixties who was imprisoned after being accused of a crime he did not commit.I have been reading the book and I'm glad to say that I enjoyed it. It was inspiring to read about a man fighting to be free from a punishment that he did not deserve. Carter never gave up and fought for his freedom. I decided to look for vi

This campaign comes out strong, showing tornados taking away food products, such as Meat, Fish and Vegetables. Mike Jones ft. Hurricane Chris ( Drop & Gimme 50 )Mike Jones can't help screaming his name out on every song he make. He make sure you know who it is, but for what?. I'm pretty sure who ever listen to rap and hip-hop know who he is by now. Choosing Hurricane Chris to collaborate with was a good idea being that dude is getting a lot of buzz in the rap game right now (though his album didn't do to good). They had to make this song for the club ( the strip joint in particular). This joint will surely have females in there closet mirrors tryin to drop it like it's hot.
