The Joe Pesci of Hurling retires
Davy Fitz is after retiring. I must say I really liked him, being of small stature myself he really was inspirational. He was one of the few short ‘keepers. He was well able to have a laugh with the fans on the terrace during any matches I was at. And he got a tirade of abuse [...]

      Gaelic Games: Hurling Review
Paul left his a link to his review of the game and I agree with everything he says about the game so in the interest of laziness here is what he has to say. “The first Gaelic Game was a big let down to all GAA fans. It’s lack of names and bad gameplay got some bad reviews from alot people, including myself. So how good would the first Hurling Game be? Well suprisingly it’s not bad. Making the fast’s game in the world was never going to be easy, but I think IR GURUS have done an excellent job. The gameplay is very good, although the graphic’s are not much better than Gaelic Games Football. The commentary is much the same with Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh giving his expert views. A good addition was the introduction of club teams, although they don’t have the real kit or badges and some of the clubs that are in it don’t even have a Hurling club, but this can quickly be resolved in the new edting section. Just like Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer

Sonys Gaelic Games hurling Screen Shots
The stadia look really well done. Obviously these are probably not gameplay shots but it’s a start. I’ll be buying my copy Friday when it’s released so I’ll write a quick review then. My favourite line from the advertising is “to reflect the unpredictable nature of the Irish weather - conditions can now change during a match, and influence the outcome of the game”. Pity there are no ads on the TV for it though. Very little media coverage. I remember the one from last year of commentary over some lad moving stuff into his new house. It was very funny.

      Gaelic Games: Hurling
Well it’s finally happening. Someone is releasing a computer game where you can play hurling. A few months ago a pretty good hurling manager game was released but now you can play the game itself. Unfortunately it is being developed by the same people who made the first Gaelic games Football Game (they are releasing a Gaelic Games Football 2 Game as well) however it can only be better than that game, which was a pretty poor rebadged version of an Aussie Rules Game they had developed previously. Still though I would urge anyone out there to buy it. The more people that buy it the more resources computer games manufacturers will but into developing these games as they will see there is a market for it. It is being developed for the Playstation 2 and is due to be released on the 9th of November. It also comes in a pack with both the Football and Hurling game included. Also in an intelligent move it includes a DVD which teaches you the skills of Hurling and Football. So it may enco

      Back Playing Hurling
Started back hurling training again last week. Really enjoyed it. Not a bad as I used to be I think, perhaps it’s because I have contact lenses now. Playing hurling with glasses underneath the helmet is definitely a drawback. Not sure what position I’d like to play yet. Probably Right Corner Forward.

      My Alternative Hurling Championship
This is my suggestion for an alternative Championship which should be much easier to understand than the current one. And also hopefully fairer to the existing teams. I propose dropping the Leinster, “Connacht” and “Ulster” Championships. Instead we would have a “3 Provinces” Championship consisting of Kilkenny Offaly Galway Antrim Wexford Each team would play every other team once a year. The first year away and the next at home. This would introduce home games in the Championship which I think would really increase the crowd sizes in the matches as you wouldn’t have to travel long distances. In Munster you would have the same format with each of the Munster Teams. Cork Limerick Waterford Tipperary Clare You would get 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and nothing for a loss. The top two teams from each championship would go through and play each other in the Munster Final and the 3 Provinces Final. The winner of one plays the loser of the other

      New Hurling Championship Format
This is the most confusing one yet. The 12 counties eligible to participate are Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Galway and Antrim. All Ireland hurling qualifier phase 1: comprised of two teams, Antrim and Galway. All Ireland hurling qualifier phase 2: shall comprise of the winners and losers of phase 1 and the teams defeated in the first round of the Leinster and Munster championships. The winner of phase 1 will play the team from Leinster and the loser of phase 1 will play the Munster side. The winner of phase 2 will then move on to phase 4. All Ireland hurling qualifier phase 3: shall be comprised of four teams i.e. the beaten provincial semi-finalist in Leinster and Munster, who will play off in a knock-out format. A Munster team will play a Leinsetr team and an open draw will be made to determine the pairings. All Ireland hurling qualifier phase 4: The winners of phase 2 will play the winners of phase 3 in a knock-out format. A
