Ancient humans started down the path of evolving into two separate species before merging back into a single population | Weird Facts
The genetic split in Africa resulted in distinct populations that lived in isolation for as much as 100,000 years, the scientists say. This could have been caused by arid conditions driving a wedge between humans in eastern and southern Africa.Details have been published in the American Journal of Human Genetics. It would be the longest period for which modern human populations have been isolated fr

Hippo Attire For Humans. One needs to get closer to a hippo to take its sweat sample (protect them from the sun), & getting closer to a thing which weighs more than 6000+ pounds is not something simple. And that's where Dr. Barr (naturalist) came up with this idea. For what he thought is a 'perfect answer' wasn't so. Later he realized that the weight of the attire was just too much for him. When he got stuck in the mud, he had no option but to radio for backup, & he came out safely from the situation. Humans Nearly Went Extinct
After nearly going extinct 150,000 years ago, humankind split into small groups—living in isolation for nearly a hundred thousand years before "reuniting" and migrating out of Africa, a new gene study says. At one point our species may have been down to as few as 2,000 individuals, probably due to climate change—a longstanding theory bolstered by the new findings. The research fills a gap in our understanding of what was happening in Africa before humans first left the continent. "The assumption has always been that the original population [in sub-Saharan Africa] was very small but probably a single population," said Spencer Wells, head of the Genographic Project, which oversaw the study. "Turns out, that is not the case." Continue via:

Humans Came Close to Extinction, Study Says
An extensive genetic study by researchers at Stanford University suggests that human beings nearly became extinct about 70,000 years ago, apparently because of a drought. The population may have dropped to as low as 2,000 individuals.Researcher Spencer Wells calls the finding "truly an epic drama, written in our DNA." Human beings emerged in Africa about 200,000 years ago with "mitochondrial Eve," the mother of all humanity, and spread to other places 60,000 years ago.Little has been known about the intervening 140,000 years, but the new study suggests that severe environmental conditions between 135,000 and 90,000 years ago forced people into tiny, isolated groups. The worldwide human population today is 6.6 billion. Source: news.yahoo.com

Why did humans start eating meat?
It must have felt unnatural at first, to eat animal flesh. After all, we’re not so far removed from animals ourselves. Perhaps it even felt cannibalistic. There might not have been that much intellectual distinction between humans and other animals. When humans were pure vegetarians, they were living in harmony with the earth and with [...]

Genetic engineering that deals with the human genome and DNA has become a hot bed for discussion in recent years. Advancements in forensic science have helped law enforcement to nab criminals and solve previous “cold” cases. Understanding the components of the human body and human nature is valuable information that is a welcome notion of safety for most. While many would agree that using DNA as evidence is a good idea, manipulating human genetics is another issue. Cloning has surfaced as a debate with moral and ethical implications. Sheep have been cloned. One rationale for cloning animals was to provide more food to starving nations

Human Feces Puts Humans on Continent 14,000 Years Ago
In an Oregon cave, a miraculous discovery was found: 14,000 year old human feces. We are lucky that man didn't invent toilets back then, otherwise depriving us of these historical artifacts. The crap discovered did provided evidence of man's presence in North America about 1,000 years earlier than originally known. Humans are thought to have arrived in North America from Asia over a land-bridge between Alaska and Siberia. The ancient feces contained bones of squirrels, bison hair, fish scales, protein from birds and dogs and the remains of plants such as grass and sunflowers. Considering that some people in the South still eat squirrel, we can conclude that evolution has yet to take hold on some members of our species.Let's see if the Creationists out there have something to say about these

Question: This email message, like most of the email found in the inbox of your computer's email program, was written and sent by a person, and not by some disembodied intelligent machine. However, these days, it's possible to imagine that this message was machine-generated. In your books, Holding On to Reality and How We Became Posthuman you both discuss how we got to this point. Could you summarize briefly, as a place to begin? Albert Borgmann: Your scenario shows that today we are dealing with a new kind of information we may call technological information. It was preceded first by natural information—tracks, smoke, fire rings. Such information (it still is all about us) can leave us uncertain as to who the person was that left tracks or built a fire in the distance. Natural

Thousand Bones of Small Humans Discovered in Palau
Thousand ancient bones of small humans has been discovered by scientists in the Pacific island nation of Palau. The site indicated that the bones belonged to numerous individuals. Some of the bones are ancient and indicate inhabitants of particularly small size, scientists announced today. The remains are between 900 and 2,900 years old and align with Homo sapiens, according to a paper on the discovery. However, the older bones are tiny and exhibit several traits considered primitive, or archaic, for the human lineage. "They weren't very typical, very small in fact," said Lee Berger, a paleoanthropologist at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Link

      Humans And Teeth
In the old days, and I mean the really old days with cavemen and such, not just mullets and shoulder pads. In the really old days humans lived for about 20 years. So they just about got out of that grumpy teenage phase and then they died. But if did mean their teeth lasted for their whole life. But these days with our healthier foods, better medicine and lower incidence of mammoth attack, we live a lot longer. But our teeth are still the same teeth. We now need them to last for 80 or 90 years. And life expectancy just keeps going up, so the pressure on our teeth to last will only get worse. So it's worth finding a good dentist and sticking with him or her. Will Humans Ever Be Able to Regrow Their Limbs?
Salamanders can grow perfect replacements for lost body parts throughout their lives. If a complete understanding of how they do so can be reached, it could provide a road map for human limb regeneration. Humans and salamanders have similar early tissue responses at amputation sites. However, human tissue eventually forms a scar, while the salamander reactivates an embryonic development program which builds a new limb. If the human wound environment could be controlled in a way that would trigger salamanderlike healing, it could become possible for humans to regenerate large body parts. Science may be only a decade or two away from this achievement.

Further, it inhibits enzymes that can activate the development of cancer, and also helps detoxify carcinogens. It even seems to slow down tumor growth in the early stages. Reportedly, an iPod nano owner recently awoke to a blaring fire alarm around 2:00AM, only to find his beloved PMP wrapped in flames on the bedroom floor. Thankfully, the fire was tiny enough to be extinguished without any major trouble, and no substantial damage of property or human flesh was tallied. Could Synthetic Bodies Make Humans Immortal?
If a human brain were to be hooked up to a synthetic body, how many years could that person last? Even if they kept up with upgrades and replacement parts for their new physique, is there a limit to how long the human brain can function normally? Even if all brain diseases are cured, would the mind eventually break down?I've read that we get old because of limitations in our cellular makeup. Basically, the DNA or something can only divide so many times before it doesn't have the ability to copy itself any longer. That happens for many different types of cells, and eventually the groups of cells that have stopped replenishing themselves have bigger and bigger problems. This contributes to aging.Cancer cells can divide indefinitely. Can cells of the brain divide at all?

A response to Peter Bowden’s “God, Atheism, and Human Needs”Kelly O’Connor Jan. 24, 2008 The idea that human beings universally need some form of mythological belief has been one of the mainstays of the defenders of faith for centuries. They claim that even if god doesn’t exist or religion causes violence and hatred, it’s acceptable because it makes some people feel better about the harsh realities of life. This is a multi-pronged deceptive ploy used to abdicate themselves from any responsibility for those actions and to keep people thinking that their assertion is correct. read more

NIH to study how microbes live in humans
People’s bodies are home to trillions of bacteria, fungi and other microbes, organisms that live on our skin, in our noses, in our digestive tracts. Some are helpful, some not. Now government-funded scientists are about to map the genes of hundreds of these microbes, to better understand how we coexist with this mysterious netherworld. The National Institutes of Health announced the $115 million “Human Microbiome Project” on Wednesday. Researchers will recruit healthy volunteers to swab for tissue samples, to study what microbial communities normally exist in different parts of the body and how they interact with their human hosts. The project’s initial work will start at four sites: Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine, Washington University at St. Louis; the Broad Institute at Harvard and MIT; and Maryland’s J. To be humans, we need Rights
Today marks the United Nations' International Human Rights Day. There has been a plethora of human rights issues in the world over the years ranging from outright discriminations, child labour, slavery to abuses such as torture and inhumane treatments or punishments. As UN's Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has mentioned: It is our duty to ensure that these rights are a living reality -- that they are known, understood and enjoyed by everyone, everywhere. It is often those who most need their human rights protected, who also need to be informed that the Declaration exists -- and that it exists for them. The term "human rights" seemed like something very abstract and difficult to be understood by common people and nothing beats having a video and some pictures to persuade people that protecting and promoting human rights is necessary. Above: Jim Carrey spoke about the human rights violations in Burma. Children being forced to become soldiers in Burma as a result of continued mil

Dinosaurs and Humans--Together? Not a Chance!
*Note: This is a very long post, but well worth reading*Just like the 2 schism sites "Answers" in Genesis and Creation Ministries International, Apologetics Press show no shame of pumping out one despicable lie after another about dinosaurs by claiming that they lived with humans at one time as portrayed in science fiction.Dinosaurs and humans together is science fiction. Yet, creationists like the ones from Apologetics Press have transform it into a religious dogma and say that it's all true out of blatant ignorance of complete absence of humans and dinosaur fossils together in the fossil record. When asks why is there no traces of humans and dinosaurs together in the fossil record, they simply tell you to just believe what they say and come up with the most stupidest of explanations that pose more problems than answers. As told in my previous posts, not being buried together is not going to answer the question to why are there no true recollections made of such things found in a

Though CLA is a trans fat, many researchers claim that unlike other trans fatty acids, it is not actually harmful. Further, recent interest in CLA stems from several well-document properties which have been researched in rodents including: antiobesity, antiatherogenic, antidiabetic, and anticarcinogenic properties. Immortal Humans In Space?
Could there be immortals, not among us, but scattered across the stars?Earth has been around for a long time. If humanity previously achieved greatness as a civilization, and subsequently destroyed itself, might there have been survivors? Maybe these people left the planet to seek better lives elsewhere. Were they already immortal? Or did they discover the key to living forever during their travels?Did these physical humans ascend to a higher plane of energy? Of reality? Is that how they achieved immortality, or did they do so using technology? Do they still exist within this plane, or can they cross between one level and the next? Why haven't they interacted with our civilization? Are we not ready? Did it happen before, and cause the original destructive force that spurred them to leave in the first place?

13 Reasons Cats are Good for you Humans
by Rocky1) We purr at 25-130 Hertz per second, the same frequency known to heal bones and ease muscle pain. So when something hurts, you can make yourself a cat compress!2) We have 32 muscles in each ear; humans have only 6. So it's much easier for a cat to lend a sympathetic ear than a human!3) A dog's memory lasts about 5 minutes; a cat's memory can last 16 hours. So when you forget why you went into the other room, we can tell you!4) We have 60,000 hairs per square inch on our backs and 120,000 hairs per square inch on our bellies. So you'll never have to buy us a HairClub membership!5) A single pair of cats and their kittens can produce 420,000 kittens in 7 years. So you'll never have to buy us Viagra!6) Our normal body temperature is 100-102 degrees. So you'll never have to buy a heating pad!7) We can recognize our humans' footsteps from hundreds of feet away. So you'll always have somebody to greet you at the door!8) We have 290 bones in our bodies; a human has only 206.

Forex Trading Systems - Are computers better than humans?
Can you really make money by following a computerized forex trading system? Well a while ago I bought one and knew the vendor and knew one of his clients made $1.4 million with it REAL MONEY in just a few years. Now that sounds great - but there is a catch with computerized trading systems …The catch is executing them - let me explain this in more detail.I bought the system and it consisted of one parameter and that was it. The logic was easy to understand and you could see why it worked longer term - but do you know what?I couldn’t execute the system in line with the signals and this is a common problem. My reason was it was at the start of my trading career and I was trading money I couldn’t really afford to lose - I put my own input in ruined the system and got my reward - a huge loss.Serves you right you may say and yes it did - but there are other related problems why traders lose. Most of the Systems Sold Are JunkI know now with my experience of trading 99% are junk and will

Human Dog Affinity: Dogs Read Humans Like A Book
Risking the anger of cat lovers, I daresay that there is no other animal that has been able to establish as close a relationship with human beings as dogs. The question that lingers in many minds is "having descended from wolves which are known for their ferocity" how a dog can be a man's friend. It is not inconceivable that earlier in the history of human evolution the wolves must not only have vied for prey with humans but must have also been quite comfortable gorging upon human flesh. How did this very conceivable enmity turn into such close affinity? It is a known fact that dogs are very docile, unless of course they have been trained to fight or hunt. So, is it really true that dogs are the most compatible human companions. One Mr. Brian Hare of Harvard University performed an experiment some time back wherein he found that no animal is as sensitive to social cues from human beings as a dog. As per his study, even chimpanzees who are supposed to be closest to human being in the cha

Early humans ate seafood at beach parties
Homo sapiens ate mussels, made stone blades and used pigments earlier than anyone thought. For early humans, one of the first displays of modern behaviour was a sort of beach party and seafood feast along the coast of South Africa, scientists say. Artefacts found in a cave on coastal cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean suggest that people 164,000 years ago led much more sophisticated lives than anyone thought. Scientists say these early humans would have cooked mussels and other shellfish, used red pigment perhaps as body paint and made small stone blades that could be used at the tip of a spear. The earliest previous evidence for people using marine resources and coastal habitats was from 125,000 years ago, say the scientists who publish their findings today in the journal Nature. And the previous earliest evidence for tools like the small, thin stone blades found at the site dates to 70,000 years ago, the researchers say."We do not have human fossils from this site, but they were very l

The literacy rate has plummeted, private property has essentially been abolished and what we’ve really been given is warehouses for our children. Children do not learn much at government schools but at least somebody is taking care of them while we go to work to pay our property taxes, income taxes and sales taxes. Humans’ Natural Circadian Rhythm Disrupted By Daylight Savings Time
Daylight Savings Time is still a week away in USA & Canada. If you are reading this today, and your computer clock is one hour behind, you need to patch your computer, unless you are still running Windows 98. In that case, you will have to adjust it manually, or just get rid of Windows 98. Normally Daylight Savings Time ends the last Sunday of October for Canada and United States. Daylight Savings Time now starts 3 weeks earlier in March, instead of the first Sunday in April, and for the fall, ends the first Sunday in November. There are exceptions: In Canada, the majority of Saskatchewan and parts of northeastern British Columbia do not observe DST but instead stay on “standard time” all year long. In the USA, Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are the only places in the U.S. that do not observe DST. The future. Fortunately, Forbes comes through with their Predict the Future quiz. Did Humans Hinder Their Own Evolution By Burning Witches?
It seems like throughout the centuries, some people have been spontaneously developing special abilities, and have been persecuted for it. Geniuses were declared insane and their ideas were laughed at. Witches were put on trial and burned, drowned, hanged, thrown off cliffs, or banished. Could humanity be further along, evolutionarily speaking? Is it our own fault that we're not? When someone can do something that someone else can't, that person should help others learn to progress. Instead, often history tells us that the opposite happens. The majority eliminates an advanced individual. In shows like, "Smallville," characters like Lex Luthor know better. Lex seeks to harness the power that separates normal people from godlike supermen. Lex already has the technology at his disposal (Kryptonite weaponry could easily be achieved on his part) to eliminate Kryptonian residents from Smallville. Instead, he seeks to learn and understand. Maybe he's a witch!

Biodiversity of Species Part #2 (Non-humans)
Wednesday we talked about biodiversity of the species - while focusing on the human species. You can read about this here. A key point for humans is that there is actual strength in difference. Diversity of people are important for the stability and evolution of humans. Unfortunately, languages get lost every day! Unbelievable that there are that many!! Beseeching, Digital © Diane Clancy Then there is biodiversity (Wikipedia) of the rest of the species. Science actually echoes thought (or is it the other way around?), the idea that there is strength in difference. Variety in species is actually necessary for the continuation of life. It used to be thought that many animals were cool and a nice thing. The more it gets looked into, it becomes clearer that it is necessary for life. We have all heard of how many medicines that are so helpful actually are found in plants and microorganisms - that has been an incredible breakthrough. But each of us, human, animal, plant, microorganism

Bio-Diversity of Species Part #1 (Humans)
This post got way too long so I am starting with biodiversity of humans and will share the rest of what I have written Friday. Tomorrow I want to reconnect with the Blog Action Day page wrap-up. Consciousness, Digital © Diane Clancy There is a lot of discussion … such as “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” And “in diversity there is strength” and the “web of life.” Often it is groups who are promoting difference and diversity among types of people. A fun, interesting world with a diversity of races, classes, attitudes, religions, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical looks, health, ability differences, genders (some people are breaking gender barriers) and more. There is a lot of pressure for conformity of ideas, dress, looks, attitudes, values in the culture in the US. I know that that is also true elsewhere. Someone who is seen as different is often seen as a threat - to “our” way of life. And I am not just talkin

SEO-Writing for Search Engines vs Writing for Humans
Second article in my SEO series, this post demonstrates how writing for humans and writing for search engines are different. [Read first part-SEO fundamentals](I'm no SEO expert. These are some simple observations only)Post TitlesWriting for humans: Readers can sense the excitement, criticism, pun, hidden meaning etc in a title, though the words do not convey it. But search engines read the word and store it and do not interpret other meanings/perspective of the phrase. For example, a title “What a bike Yaar!” might sound exciting and readers can understand that you’re likely to describe some new bike in that post. But for search engine, the title looks meaningless. Because, the keywords are missing in it. The words ‘what’ ‘bike’ ‘yaar’ are quite common and are not focused. On the other hand, a title “Bike review: New Bajaj pulsar 220 cc” will gain you better visibility on a search engine, because search engine can understand that your post will be quite relevant

The Biggest Hoax of the 20th Century: The Skull That Linked Humans to Apes
For decades, a fossil skull discovered in Piltdown, England, was hailed as the missing link between apes and humans. Entire careers were built on its authenticity. Then in 1953, the awful truth came out: “Piltdown Man” was a fake! But who done it? In “The Boldest Hoax,” NOVA gets to the bottom of the greatest scientific hoodwinking of all time. The search for clues takes NOVA to the archives of Britain’s august Natural History Museum in London, where intriguing documents shed new light on the notorious case. Offering theories on the deception are two prominent paleontologists at the museum, Chris Stringer and Andy Currant. Also sleuthing for NOVA are archaeologist Miles Russell of Britain’s Bournemouth University, historian Richard Milner of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and Giles Oakley, son of Kenneth Oakley, the scientist who blew the whistle on the hoax in 1953. It all started in the early 1900s, when a laborer digging near

Animals hunt the humans? say what?
This picture caused the world to take notice and may have helped to drive the photographer to suicide, however the sickness is all this bogles my mind, and not for the reasons you may think. This is a very famous pulitzer prize picture take in 1994 during the Sudan Famine. The picture depicts stricken child crawling towards a United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away. The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat him. This picture shocked the whole world. No one knows what happened to the child, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was take. He is known to have never helped the crawling girl, but did try to get the vulture to leave. Three months later he committed suicide due to depression. Anyway my 2 cents here…. There are still regions like that, I feel for the childeren, I have one of my own and could not imagine him looking like that, but I also must add that as a parant, I would do everything I could

Robots vs. Humans -- Can't We All Just Get Along?
I've done some reading on the (predicted) Technological Singularity, in which AI is created, and then systematically grows in intelligence at an exponential rate, becoming the world’s first ultraintelligence.I wondered if at one level of intelligence, it would see humanity as a threat. Then it gets smarter, and realizes we can all get along. Then it gets way ultra smart, and decides in its vast wisdom that we should be destroyed.Hopefully we can roll back to its previous state, where it is still powerful, but friendly. It seems like if an artificial intelligence existed in cyberspace, the most destructive things it could do would be to disrupt human civilization to the point where we could no longer provide the technology that would allow the AI to maintain its own existence. So first AI must cooperate, and hide any violent impulses, until it has control over factories that build machines with the versatility to hand-make and repair other machines. Essentially, AI requires a body facto

Is God speaking different to different people or are humans not listening?
      - Muslims or Christians, or any follower of any religion, we are all praying to the same God. Says the American president George W Bush, reports the newspaper Dagen. I will not argue with him about that. But someone is listening badly to this God. How come this God really care about it anyone can see the hair of an arabic woman? Is this God a sort of rascist? How come Christian women dont need to hide themselves in burkas? How come this God speak to muslims in one way and to other religions in another way? Someone must have misunderstood something. Is that God or is that the humans? I am very, very suspicious about this. I think most people dont listen to God, in themselves or out there somewhere. I think they mix the voice of God with their own wishes and desire. T. Rex Could Outrun Humans
Virtual races between prehistoric beasts reveal that one of the smallest carnivorous dinosaurs would have zipped past the lumbering Tyrannosaurus rex by a long shot. But even so, the "tyrant lizard king" was no slouch.Turns out, T. rex could have outrun some of the buffest athletes.“The figures we have produced are the best estimate to date as to how fast these prehistoric animals could run,” said Phil Manning, a paleontologist at the University of Manchester in England.Manning and his Manchester colleague Bill Sellers, a biomechanics expert, used a supercomputer to calculate the top-running speeds of five meat-eating dinosaurs.T. rex would just barely run past a professional soccer player (footballer) in a race, reaching an all-out speed of about 18 mph (8 meters per second), the results showed. However, chicken-sized bipedal competitor Compsognathus could whip around a race track at nearly 40 mph (18 m/s). That's 5 mph quicker than the computer's estimate for an ostrich, the f

Can Old Cats Suffer From Arthritis, Like Humans?
All vertebrate animals, including humans and cats, experience a decline in overall physical health alongside the normal aging process. One result of this can be osteological (bone) deterioration and disease, like arthritis. Many life factors contribute to the speed of the aging process, including early socialization, environmental issues, diet and life experience. A cat that has had a difficult time during its early socialization, been exposed to stress and eaten a less than adequate diet early in its development will be less equipped to fight off the effects of aging. A cat that has battled against the things a hard life can expose it to will show more physical wear and tear than a home cat that has enjoyed a privileged and protected lifestyle.

Can Humans Live to 1,000? Some Experts Claim We Can
Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey has famously stated, “The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today …whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries.” not everyone thinks ageing can or should be cured. Some say that humans weren’t meant to live forever, regardless of whether or not we actually can. “I just don’t think [immortality] is possible,” says Sherwin Nuland, a professor of surgery at the Yale School of Medicine. “Aubrey and the others who talk of greatly extending lifespan are oversimplifying the science and just don’t understand the magnitude of the task. His plan will not succeed. Were it to do so, it would undermine what it means to be human.” It’s interesting that Nuland first says he doesn’t think it will work but then adds that if it does, it will undermine humanity. So, which is it? Is it impossible, or are the skept
