I guess when many people think of sports, they’d typically list off the usual sports like baseball, football, hockey etc. However, I never imagined that competitive eating would actually gain popularity as a sport as well. The amount of food consumed by these athletes nothing short of remarkable and they aren’t what I [...]

Well its finally SUMMER and the temperatures have been climbing steadily between thundershowers too quick to cool things off. Bo isn’t exactly a fan of the heat. I can’t imagine how much he would have liked Mississippi as its just as hot and more humid there where we have a slightly dryer heat (although [...]
There seems to be a never ending demand for grilling gadgets. Part of the cause for this is of course the fact that we keep buying the stuff, thus encouraging people to keep inventing and manufacturing such gadgets. Never mind. Here's an idea that we think could easily be adapted to a weekend project of our own. A piece of steel mesh and something rounded and smooth to make the wavy bending with,
It was our community’s yard sale this weekend which is where I cook about 300 hot dogs over a two hour period while trying to talk to everyone I know who sees me. I lose a few dogs on the ground in the process because I can’t talk and operate a tongs at the same [...]

by Hot Dog Zanzabarhotdog.zanzabar@gmail.comLots of lunacy since we last met. The timely events that are ruling the message board roost these days are the annual college basketball coaching carousel and the start of the MLB season. Thankfully, each sport's respective fan base is equally crazy, providing some grade-A material. We’ll start off our little field trip in Bloomington, Indiana. Indiana University made news by recently hiring Big East jerk Tom Crean. I used the word “jerk” because profanity is frowned upon on this site for some reason. But I digress. I have yet to hear one person criticize this hire from Indiana’s behalf, so it’s safe to say that they've made their first smart hire since Pitt fan Bobby Knight (more on him later) was run out of town. Some people are quest
What dog doesn't like hot dogs? I know I do (they have to be turkey with no preservatives for me, but I digress). If you live near Chicago, it's just about the best time for hot dogs - Wrigley Field hot dogs. Mum would take one with everything. My sis, Gracie, would take one plain and love it!If you're heading out to Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs this season, don't miss out on visiting CubWorld.com where you can buy Cubs merchandise online and get yourself all ready for the game! CubWorld.com is the online website of Sports World, which is located across from Wrigley Field. They say they have the biggest selection of Chicago Cubs apparel and merchandise around!

Sausage? Anyone for... sausage? This is a great little gadget that will spice up your life no end. The Hot Dog Roller is a rather authentic looking replica of those old hot dog stalls. Only difference here is that it won’t take up your entire living room. Just a little bit of a table.
We all love a hot dog and this red and white mini-stall has been specifically designed to cater for all your

Welcome to the world of the Viator Hot Dog!
Now we're not talking about that classic American iconic food (side note: the best ones I have ever had were from Tail o’ the Pup in Hollywood, which is sadly no longer) but a very strange and very weird hand sign. It's almost become a rite of passage for Viatorians around the world!
Just like Matt Harding and his crazy dance, the ‘hot dog’ has traveled the world, been done by many a strange and colorful character and, of course, has been questioned by everyone! Personally I have had extremely quizzical looks from Homer Simpson, Mickey Mouse and Spiderman. I have assured each and everyone of them (in the 10 seconds you have to get your photo taken) that it is not rude and does not have any underlying satanic meaning, while also trying to explain how to do it! I’m usually not a huge fan of buying meat products off people on the side of the street, especially from a dingy little shiny box (did it once in Spain, my stomach didn’t thank me for it), but there was something about the humble hotdog stands in Manhattan that proved irresistible. In my five days in the big apple, I developed somewhat of an addiction to hotdogs and all the strange ingredients within.Over those few days of munching my way through those hotdogs I developed a certain amount of respect for them in a business sense, it seems they had developed one of the most ingenious business plans for maximising sales EVER (might be exaggerating)The first part of their plan was to just be…EVERYWHERE, you might avoid one or two stands, but after a few blocks of walking the smell would take hold and you would have to buy one, after all it is just there on the side of the street right?, how convenientThe second part of their killer plan was the product itself. The first time I went t
Have you ever seen LEDs powered through a hot dog before? Well Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has been having some fun running some juice through a hot dog and lighting LEDs that were simply stuck into the hot dog.
“If you’re *not* going to eat the hot dog, a neat trick is to stick a bunch of standard LEDs into it. (Yes, this really works!) Apparently the voltage between nearby points on the hot dog is fairly low, since the LEDs don’t seem to burn out.
As the hot dog cooks, the resistance of the hot dog increases and the LEDs get dimmer since less current can flow through them. If you look *very* closely (or take a time lapse movie) you can see the LEDs move further apart as the hot dog swells during cooking.”
Chestnut, the American hope in the annual Fourth of July competition, broke his own world record by swallowing 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes - a staggering one every 10.9 seconds before a screaming crowd in Coney Island.Chestnut won against Kobayashi, the Japanese eating machine who recently had a wisdom tooth extracted and received chiropractic treatment due to a sore jaw.But once the contest ended, Kobayashi vomited, leading to a deduction from his final total. He finished with 63 hot dogs and buns eaten - still his best performance ever.Chestnut's victory ended Japan's long dominance of the contest. The only previous non-Japanese winner since 1996 was New Jersey's Steve Keiner in 1999.Third place this year went to another American, Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, with 49.Source: MetroTechnorati Tags: hot+dog competition record champion Joey Chestnut

Phoenix, June 04: An American broke the world record for hot dog eating at a regional contest here, smashing the old record held by a Japanese man by nearly six wieners Joe Chestnut, 22, of San Jose, California, shattered the record held by Takeru Kobayashi of Japan by downing 59 1/2 hot dogs and buns during the southwest regional hot dog eating championship at the Arizona Mills mall. Kobayashi's old world record of 53 3/4 was set at last year's Nathan's famous fourth of July hot dog eating contest, held at Coney Island in New York, said George Costos, who helps runs the regional contests for Nathan's.
Here are some candid pictures of Kate Bosworth and her boyfriend James Rousseau eating hot dogs and waving to someone in New York City.I found a very interesting article on Kate's recent weight gain:On April 23, Kate Bosworth showed up at a Food Bank for New York City charity gala flaunting a noticeably fuller frame than she did last summer. The 5-foot-5 actress, 24, had been "dangerously skinny at around 95 pounds, but she's gained 10 to 15 pounds since," estimates Beverly Hills nutritionist Jonny Bowden. What was behind the weight gain?"Kate stopped partying, started working out more, eating a bit more and generally doesn't care about her weight so much because she¹s happy," a source close to the actress says, noting that no dramatic intervention was staged. Adds a longtime friend, "Stress can take its toll, and last fall was just hard for her." (Bosworth and Orlando Bloom, 30, split in September.) "Kate is human. We all go through tough times."Now? The actress' new regimen incl

Well, there is, as Michael Chiarello shows us in this episode. He's having the Little Leaguers over for lunch after the game. He's putting out a particularly nice spread for them. He starts with “Hand Pies”, which are homemade versions of those little pies, which I think you can still find in the back of a supermarket shelf. Gosh, weren’t those good? Cherry was my favorite and I loved the overly thickened cornstarchy artificially flavored super sweet filling. Those were the days!Anyway, Michael is making his own, higher quality version with frozen puff pastry. He starts the filling by coring and cutting up peeled apples and toss
We have been in the middle of a heatwave here, with temperatures above 25 Celsius for more than a week. We also spent a lot of time in the car this week so I took my portable drinking bottle and bowl with me, and Mum had a big bottle of water in the boot to top it up. Despite this, I was quite dehydrated on Saturday afternoon when we went to the park near Nan's house. Mum got me a big cool drinking bowl from the cafe and we sat in the shade, watching Punch and Judy, for a while until I recovered. At home, Mum is now putting a little turkey stock in my water to persuade me to drink a lot. It works!Tags:dogs, weblog, pets, diary, dog food,
I've got a new music column in Vice. The latest issue has been out for a while, but it won't be online for ages so I've scanned it in and hosted it online. A while back we went back to Gangnam (check out their massive underground shopping arcade), one of the busy financial districts in south eastern Seoul. Devante wanted to go shopping and check out some cosmetic items at a few stores.I've talked about hot dogs in the past (Boston Hot Dog; Costco's notorious $1.99 hot dog & pop) and I've seen Steff HotDogs locations before as they are littered throughout Seoul. Steff HotDog is part of the Steff Houlberg chain that sells the Danish style hot dog. These hot dogs are long, thin red sausages that are steamed and buns that are steamed or toasted as well. I wanted to see what these things were all about. When I'm shopping, I need food. I need energy to keep on going. Hot dogs=energy. Let's get down to business! Here's the inside of the location in Gangnam. Their menus has items such as the BLT hot dog, barbecue hot dog, Viking hot dog, Steff hot dog, or Garlic Onion hot dog:I opted for the Chili dog (chili as in hot sauce, not chili chili)
One hot summer day in 1946 Dave Barham was inspired to dip a hot dog into his mother'scornbread batter, then deep fry it to a golden brown. The first Hot Dog on a Stick was born, andDave soon found a quaint Santa Monica, California location near the beach to offer his newcreation along with a tall glass of ice-cold lemonade and mustard on the side. The chain uses only turkey dogs for this treat, so we'll do the same. Just be sure you find the shorter dogs, not "bun-length." This time size does matter. Wandering around Omokgyo led us to Boston Hotdog, a small stand in a hole in the wall. I'm not sure if this is a chain or not, maybe you guys can help me. Now, I saw the sign and immediately I was drawn towards the stall like steel towards a magnet. The menu had lots of cheap items--I decided on a chili hot dog for $1--you can't go wrong for a buck (although the ultimate hot dog deal is at Costco--$2 for a hot dog and a drink!)Anyways, the lady made the hot dog, I ate it and it was delicious. I'll be returning as it's located just minutes away from our work. The front of the store:The menu with distorted, resized food shots:"One chili hot dog coming up!"Here is my pale-looking hot dog--trust me it was pretty good; there was no chili but just spicy sauce. Who would've thought hot dogs from Boston would be so good:
It is too hot for a dog to walk today. Sadly my friend Peppy, a nine year old Dalmatian had a heart attack on Monday. It was his second attack, and this time he died. I will miss him, and his Dad, George, will be lost without him. My Mum advised him to get another dog, preferably an older dog like me (!) - most new owners prefer puppies, but Mum says they are hard work. She likes the fact
Congrats to regular Mondesi link contributor A.J. who takes home this week's prize, a brand spanking new Sidney Crosby bobblehead. A.J. tells me this will go alongside Pokey Reese and Joey Mullen, giving his humble bobblehead collection a significant boost in star power. I'm announcing the next prize in advance...in honor of the Super Bowl, an AUTOGRAPHED PEYTON MANNING FOOTBALL CARD, courtesy of Onlypittsburgh auctions. So send those sports, entertainment & oddball links to mondesishouse@gmail.com. I'll pick a winner next Tuesday. Who knows, you could have the autograph of a Super Bowl champion...or you could have the autograph of a Super Bowl goat. Regardless, it's still better than an autograph from Eli.
After 66 hot dogs, 66 buns, squirrel faced, Chestnut beat the Japanese champ.
Now don't spoil your appetite or up-chuck your recent meal.
This is Nathan's Annual 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest that is held in Coney Island, NY.
Is this a marketing technique to sell more dogs? I'd bet more ...
