Chat about hobbits with Jackson and Del Toro
I know you love cinema, why else would you be here? Well, here’s a cool opportunity you might want to join in on. Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro will be answering some questions about ‘The Hobbit’ for a full hour Saturday next week — or Sunday, depending on where you live. The ‘party’ will [...]

Hobbits - Men and Doors [1968, Vinyl]
Folk-rock outfit the Hobbits was the studio project of Queens, New York-born singer/songwriter Jimmy Curtiss, who ranks as one of the more interesting footnotes in the history of rock & roll — the rare would-be teen idol who actually wrote his own material (and did so admirably), he later expanded his reach into psychedelia and harmony-laden folk-rock, but while the subject of a small cult f

Gather Your Memes and Hobbits About You!
It seems as if every time I darken this blog with my ominous visage, I must first apologize for my long absence. So once again, flesh-bags, I must express my regret that I could not enlighten and terrify you sooner.Frankly, I grow a bit weary of being employed to kill gophers and the occasional errant hobbit at the Diesel estate, only occasionally being called upon to dispatch a troublesome meme or two. I have over 900 years of slaying experience! Could I not find a more meaningful gig?True, I have done the occasional guest column over at the Clay Pigeon humor magazine, but even that does not come close to filling the insatiable gnawing pit of blackness that is my soul. I am considering taking up scrap-booking. I've already got one of those neat scissors that cuts the jagged lines, as

More “Hobbits” found, in Micronesia now
Following the suggestion from last week’s controversial paper about the nature of the Flores Hobbits comes a new discovery that may argue that the Hobbits are just really small humans. Fossil... Visit SEAArch to read the full story, and other stories about the archaeology of Southeast Asia.

      The Hobbits

Survival of the biggest - hobbits wiped out by man
MODERN humans wiped out the hobbit-sized people who lived on the Indonesian island of Flores, research suggests. Remains of at least 13 members of the little species, Homo floresiensis, who were about a metre tall, were unearthed in Liang Bua between 2001 and 2004. The hobbits lived there from 95,000 to 12,000 years ago when a layer of volcanic ash filled the cave.It had been thought the eruption devastated life on Flores and led to the demise of the little people, as well as the pygmy elephants they feasted on. Studies of the volcanic ash by two team members, Chris Turney and Douglas Hobbs, however, showed it was from an eruption about 600 kilometres to the west, near Bali, and so was unlikely to have resulted in island-wide extinctions.

      Anthropological Hobbits
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=198867&page=1 And we thought Tolkien wrote fiction. Maybe he knew more than he was saying. He was part of a fiction-writing group with some other authors with imaginations bigger than they could feasibly write down in a lifetime: C.S. Lewis was one. Anyway, what coincidence that they'd be found with Komodo dragons and pygmy elephants!
