If you've been following my writing on rhizome, the problem of growth, and the hamlet economy, or if you've been reading John Robb's posts on the "Resilient Community," then you'll also be interested in the work being done on an open-source toolkit for the sustainable village of the future at Open Source Ecology. There, Marcin Jakubowski, a person I met through the excellent P2P Foundation, is blaz
DENVER - The United States Attorney’s office, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) and the Internal Revenue Service today released the following warning regarding Internet and email schemes involving the Economic Stimulus Payments.
Wide-spread email schemes, known as “phishing,” that claim to come from the IRS have become increasingly common. These emails
An Indian brave rode into town one early evening, kicking up a hail of dust behind him. Very quickly, he jumped down from his horse and rushed into the doctor's office."Doc! Doc! Big Chief, no shit!" he blurted out in between panted breaths. The doctor calmed him down and handed him two tablets for his chief to take before bedtime. "He will be all right first thing tomorrow morning," the doctor as

I am considering, like many others, to move away from Blogger and go to Wordpress instead. I promise to keep you all in the know and give you dates of changes and downtime, (if any). This post is also a request for help! I have been reading many sites on how to move from Blogger to Wordpress, I still feel none the wiser! I am looking for either someone who has done it before or someone who can a
Democratic lawmakers said Sunday that Congress should pass a second economic aid plan that would focus on helping homeowners avoid foreclosure and increasing spending on bridges, roads and transit systems.”Our economy will never grow in the 21st century unless we expand and repair the deteriorating infrastructure needs of our country,” said Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman [...]
I need help on making a proper web.config file for my domain. Everytime I try to upload one, I get a runtime error loading my web page.I need the config file so I can add permissions for sockets (for some ad things) and I am (very) new to ASP.Net and basically am stuck.Of course I call godaddy and they are no help. I have Visual Studio and uploaded the generic web.config file and got the same error (or lack of a load on my wepage). Any help would be appreciated.
I’m losing my mind. I’ve spent the last two evenings trying to get a 300-page document written in Apple’s Pages ‘08 word processor to export properly to Word format.
The bulk of the document exports OK, but it screws up hundreds of endnotes: the markers jump to the wrong endnotes. I’ve tried everything I can think of — exporting to PDF (which can’t track changes) or RTF (which strips the endnote markers).
Anyone got any ideas?

I finally got a chance to relax today. I decided to spend it at the pool. Naturally, the water was too cold to swim in and it was too cloudy for me to get much of a tan. I think I had 20 minutes of sun in the entire hour and a half I was there. On the bright side, I only work three days this week, so maybe I can go again. I haven’t been swimming in a long time. It kinda makes me sad.
Also, if anyone reading this could help me: My brakes on my bike have not been working lately. I’ve been using my sneakers to help me stop. Needless to say, it’s not really safe for me to ride my bike to work, but I don’t have much of a choice if I want to get there. So if you know how to fix brakes or know someone who can fix brakes or think you might be able to figure out how to fix them (I tried, it didn’t work), please let me know! I would be so grateful. And it would save me a trip to walmart on my day off.

I saw someone carrying this divine bag in Munich today, and just have no idea what it is (I know, I should've asked her - instead I just lingered way too long and probably looked like a stalker...). Anyway - here it is: I managed to get close enough to see that on the tag it said something like: "The Original D..." but I couldn't make out the rest. If you have any inkling at all, please, please do tell me. Thanks! Oh-note: not sure if it's a high end, "inspired by..." or cheap copy bag, but I do like it.
Please Support Victims of Sinú River Flooding'Save The Ribble' has received this urgent call from Friends of the Earth Colombia (CENSAT Agua Viva), it has many chilling echoes of the situation in Britain, where residents of Hull and Doncaster still face official inaction weeks after catastrophic flooding to their homes:After intense rain showers more than 20,000 people living on the banks of the Sin River in San Pelayo, Cereté Lorica in Montería, Colombia were forced to find temporary shelter or be relocated to higher land. Their lands and homes are now under water from the June 29 inundations, which over-ran the Urrá Dam on the Sin River. Pets and livestock were lost, as reported by ASPROCIG the Producers' Association of the Greater Sin Region.Sinú residents face poverty after flooding exacerbated by the Urrá damThe same source confirmed that 600 of the 20,000 affected people are part of the social resistance process to the Urrá Dam. These are the communities who noticed the
I've always been really interested in finding out what people consider to be preppy looks, items or brands. Preppy styles, which are common both in the States and the UK (where there are the near-equivalent Sloanes), are instantly recognisable, but I find it quite hard to pinpoint why this is. Maybe you can help. The style I'm thinking of is up-market but not uber designery - these people don't really follow trends, and probably wouldn't say fashion is a big deal to them - although they're probably fashion conscious. I think a good example of a preppy-style is the character Tyler from the OC. Also, past preps might include Charlotte from SATC, and of course Bree from Desparate Housewives. Great photo of a modern preppy from fun site http://www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Preppy-GirlThe type of preppy look I'm thinking of is a more classic, older preppy - not so much the Abercromby/Hollister type. So, let's say the cleaner Ralph Lauren and Lacoste (and maybe Hilfiger) polos, instead. What d
I've been working on this runner for 2 weeks now off and on and I'm ready to put on the buttons before I finish it up, quilting & binding.
Table runner here
Do you think I should use red buttons like I have laid upon it or should I opt for a deeper maroonish red?
I've put a lot of work into this and want it to look awesome! I'm entering it into the holiday contest, too.
