During a recent visit to the Clean and Alternative Energy Incubator at the University of Toledo, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said he´d met with Spanish-based solar panel company Isofoton the day before, and they’re looking for a North-American headquarter location.Mr. Strickland spoke in Columbus with representatives from Isofoton, a 26-year-old company in Malaga, and one of  Europe’s largest producers of solar cells. The governor said he told the company about the University of Toledo’s solar research and companies that have blossomed because of it, including Phoenix-based First Solar LLC, the world’s largest producer of thin-film solar panels. Most are made at the company’s plant in Perrysburg Township.     One technology being developed by a company at the UT incubator is thin film photovoltaic strips - a cost-effective and light-weight way to create solar panels. Volkswagen is moving its U.S. headquarters from Auburn Hills, Mich., to the Northern Virginia suburbs, the Washington Post reported. Justin Hyde of the Detroit Free Press wrote an article reporting that A123 employees got to drive an early Chevy Volt prototype.  The web rumor mill of course has expanded this into a highway driveable car. Information from reliable sources indicate that yes indeed A123 employees did get to view the Volt firsthand, but they did not drive it, it was only driven by a GM handler. As well,  the car was the same concept car that gets shown at the Auto Shows, it is not a newer prototype, and does not have a Li-ion battery pack in it. Lets face it, at the time of my interview with Bart Riley, cofounder and CTO of A123 one month ago, a working battery pack prototype did not even exist. Sorry to disappoint the hopeful, but, I’m betting we do see a next generation prototype by year end.  Also, purely speculative, but the Detroit Auto show in Jan. 2008 seems like it might be a nice place to show one.

Maps of affected areas The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Staunton District is announcing new area headquarters service area boundaries in eight counties. These boundaries will be implemented on a staggered basis, with the first occurring on April 10, 2007. The new boundaries are part of VDOT’s consolidation plan. Area headquarters consolidation is the result of plans to outsource interstate maintenance by July 1, 2009, as directed by Virginia law. Also the consolidation is part of streamlining initiatives as a component of VDOT’s 2007 business plan. The boundaries have been developed to get the best coverage for the new organization, and in some cases cross county lines. This transition is taking place between snow season and hurricane season to minimize risk. The affected counties are: Frederick Shenandoah Rockingham Augusta Highland Rockbridge Alleghany Bath No area headquarters boundary changes will be made in Clarke, Warren or Page counties.

Tragedy struck the Ford Motor Company on Saturday when a man jumped to his death from the 10th floor of the automaker's Regent Court Building in Dearborn.
