      Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 Haute Couture
John Galliano, the Christian Dior fashion designer, kicked off the round of couture shows in Paris with a stylish visual argument for haute couture’s place in the contemporary world. His fresh, fairly restrained silhouettes, mixed with a confidence among design house executives that couture is prosperous, dispelled any persistent notions that the made-to-measure art form [...]

Hardware and haute couture: Loewe’s surreal shoes
Excuse me. I think you have a lightbulb stuck to your heel. These beautiful suede pumps are from Spanish fashion house Loewe. I love the combination of a retro style pump with a quirky, lightbulb heel. Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers used the country of Spain itself as an inspiration for his new [...]

Video, Christian Dior Fall-Winter 2008 Haute CoutureI can't believe it! John Galliano's back in his senses! Dior has totally recovered from that shiny satin, over embroidered, 1960's tranny haute couture nightmare show. I love the re-interpretations of Dior's 1947 "New Look". The fabrics are totally gorgeous, very silky and soft. The collection is also very conservative yet very revealing, some dr

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, THERE’S ALWAYS CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE
We always post vintage Chanel Haute Couture dresses and gowns and they always sell so fast. This Coco Chanel designed layered metallic dress on chiffon is a classic 1960s silhouette: thin tank straps that attach to a fitted shift with a grosgrain band and bow at the waist. The gold metallic is woven with a faint paisley motif. As many of our astute blog readers must know, contemporary Chanel Haute Couture is very prohibitive price-wise, so owning a piece designed by Coco Chanel should be priceless but it's surprisingly affordable compared to Karl Lagerfeld's Haute Couture and Ready to Wear designs for Chanel today. Own a piece of history and a dress that will impress! Chanel Haute Couture by Coco Chanel metallic layered chiffon cocktail dress, c 1960s. Modern size 4For additional informati

Lesbian Fashion: Androgyny Meets Haute Couture on the Spring Runway
Its time to check out what is on the runways for spring and I promise I'm not going soft on this one. I'm just in love, people. I'm in love with...Jamie Carr.Let me explain. Jamie is one of the advanced fashion design students at FIDM and she Debuted in the 2008 FIDM runway show that aired last weekend on KLCS Television here in Los Angeles area. While I was severely disappointed with most of the designers featured in this show, including all of the men's wear designers, Jamie Carr's delightful line of cutesy nerdxcore made me swoon time and time again.Once more photos become available, you can be sure I shall regale you with more of her adorably geeky couture. But meanwhile if you are not in LA and want to see the full Show, you can catch it via the FIDM webcast. Now while we're speaking of

Aelisheva Makes Haute Couture Affordable and Beautiful
Since each piece is hand made, it allows the designers to make each one slightly different. “It is a stronger piece that way,” Sanja say via translator. Alyse expands on this: “We have both been doing fashion and visual arts for many years, so at this point it comes out naturally and rapidly on its own. We do many variations on elements from earlier work.” In fact, the designers keep boxes of fabric scraps, bits and pieces of trim, and miscellaneous bits for use in each creation. “I have many pieces of material, which wait to be put in their own place in their own time,” Sanja muses. “I do not know if that is collage or painting, maybe both one and the other.” No piece is this more evident in than the lovely grey and red dress I have here. The bodice is made of a thin, stretchy piece of textured charcoal fabric. The skirt is a darker, complimentary grey in silky-soft velour. Various appliques and bits of trim in red and white offe

      Christian Lacroix Haute Couture
No mínimo, fantástico. CHRISTIAN LACROIX is not a name one associates with austerity. To celebrate his twentieth year on the international fashion stage, many were expecting a technicolour blowout of monumental proportions - yet Lacroix’s genius doesn’t lie in traffic-stopping colour alone (although second onto the runway was, true to form, one multi-coloured, Russian-inspired, corset-style coat that turned every head in the audience). Against a stark white catwalk in a white room at the Palais de Tokyo Modern Art Museum, the sheer elaborate construction of Lacroix’s couture collection,

Haute Couture A/W 07: Christian Dior
As usual, the Dior show was a whimsical, theatrical adventure, that leaves you wanting more! John Galliano really should receive some sort of award, and if his couture designing days ever come to an end he will have no problem getting a job as a costume designer.Anyway, here are my favourite designs from this year's show.Gorgeous. And it's pretty awesome that Amber Valletta (old-school supermodel) is modelling this one.I also love this model. Flavia De Oliveira. She's a rising star, that one.I really like it how this model has a little more curve to her body than the others.Show-stopping.I adore the colour of this absolute masterpiece. It reminds of a snake. A very chic snake, or course. ;-)Unfortunately, this will be the only Haute Couture post this time around. I thought I'd show this collection because it was particularly stunning.Check out the rest of Haute Couture A/W at HarpersBazaar.com.auCatch.*Romany*

Rafael Cennamo Haute Couture Fall 2007 Funkshion
The Fall 07'Funkshion Shows were fabulous. One of the main featured designers at Funkshion 2007 is Rafael Cennamo(chen-na-mo). Cennamo's 'Haute Couture' Fall/2007 collection is inspired by 50's Glam. Cennamo is known for his special occasion gowns. The gowns are made by him and the embellishments on the gowns are made by hand. The fabrics and colors Cennamo uses in his collections have heavy European influences. These influences are evident in his divine Haute Couture Fall 07' collection. I enjoyed this collection. The colors used in the suits were chocolates and other soft dark earth tones. The dresses were divine they ranged from a gorgeous deep burgundy (my favorite) to golds. Wrist and elbow length black leather gloves were also part of the dress collections giving a sort of vixen edge to dresses and gowns that I have never seen before. The designs of the dresses covered what I think every woman should have in her closet, soft and feminine to meet the parents to hardcore bla

Spring 2007 Haute Couture No. 1
Couture; the heart of fashion and the one place in which designers can let their imaginations go free without anyone worrying if they're truly crazy. This seasons couture shows were highly anticipated by me, myself and I (and thousands of others, I'm sure). So to give you you'r daily dose of the best of the best here are the first shows to start of couture week. P.S. To warn you beforehand - sorry about my constant mutterings of the words wow, gorgeous and wow. I need a thesauras. ValentinoI wasn't as impressed with Valentino's spring couture show as I thought I would be. To me it was just a carry one of his spring show, from the tiered dresses, to the colours (pink, cream and yellow) to the hairstyles. It was quite pretty but I thought it looked more ready-to-wear than haute couture. These two dresses were my absolute favourites of the show. I loved the delicate slip on the right and for some reason (maybe the fact that this dress costs a couple hundred thousand dollars) the dres

Haute Couture Spring 2007 No. 2
The final installment of haute couture (although a bit late). So soak in all of these dresses because you wont get to see designers at their best or worst for another couple of months. GivenchyMy absolute favourite show of the couture show. Obviously Audrey Hepburn was a style icon. The only designer she ever wore was Givenchy. I loved the somber pallette of the show mixed in with quirky colours like the gorgeous yellow. The black dress on the left was my favourite of the show. Its so sleek and dark and if I was an actress at the Oscars this would definetly be my first pick. The dress on the right has a really pretty colour and the tailored coat is so interesting. I love love love the dress on the left. The colour is perfect. Its not too yellow or pale or bright. Who knew Irina Lazarneau could pull of lemon yellow? The tailoring at this show was spectacular. I loved the incorporation of flowers into a dark grey and the skirts are so interesting.Jean Paul GautierNothing special in th

Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2007 haute couture collection at Paris Couture week
Thanks to my photographer friend (Thierry Chomel) for sending me this picture of Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham at the Opening Party for the Giorgio Armani Avenue Montaigne boutique in Paris. Katie looks so grown up in this sleek velvet black suit. Victoria looks like a bobblehead doll right? But I must say that her cropped hair do is a lot better than when she was wearing those badly botched hairstyles of years past. Anways, here are some looks from the show:Sure, its haute and its not actully meant to be ripped right from the runway and ready to wear, but I can see some of these peices on the hollywood red carpet. The line is very classically elegant and shimmery. Perfect for a star studded night.
