Moroccan prisons are no better than Guantanamo

      Obama Calls For Closing Guantanamo
It’s about time. This announcement is only the beginning of many actions that will reveal the contrasts between the policies of the Bush administration and those of the Obama administration. In itself, calling for closing Guantanamo is a huge break from Bush’s national security policies. Guantanamo serves as a high-security detention center for ‘enemy combatants’ and [...]

Note that the child was shot in the back while on his knees.  And that US troops used grenades themselves during the incident. From then until now he has been raised in Guantanamo Bay, not in the children's section, but held mostly in solitary confinement with the adults.  He has been tortured & only last year was allowed to contact his mother and to talk to a lawyer.  I don't normally republish whole articles, but I think the importance of this human rights violation overri

It was the US government's explicit policy to wipe away the Geneva conventions and subject the supposedly most dangerous captives to what were euphemistically called "aggressive" interrogation techniques – techniques that flouted international law. The people behind the policy are therefore, according to the British human rights lawyer Philippe Sands, criminals who may well face charges should they choose to take a holiday in, say, France or Germany. And who are they, these people? Top government lawyers who – at the behest of Donald Rumsfeld, the then defence secretary – cooked up a means of bypassing Geneva and in effect allowed the interrogators on the tip of Cuba to do whatever the hell they wanted. This film is almost completely different from the first expect for the type of humor and characters. This one relies heavily on raunchy jokes and racial jokes for it's humor. I didn't expect it to be some great piece of comedic work or anything going into it. There is no doubt that John Cho and Kal Penn have great chemistry together. Ex-Gitmo prosecutor alleges politics by Michael Melia for AP   A former chief prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay testified Monday that he faced growing interference from his Pentagon superiors following the arrival at the Navy base of "high-value" detainees with direct links to the Sept. 11 attacks. Morris Davis, who was called to testify by lawyers for Osama bin Laden's former driver, said Pentagon officials showed increased interest in the schedule and the selection of detainees for trial once the prisoners arrived from secret CIA custody in September 2006. "Suddenly, everybody had strong opinions about how we ought to do our job," Davis said. "If you can get the 9/11 guys charged, you get the victims' families energized, and if the case is rolling, whoever

      Guantanamo prisoners boycott war trials
The U.S. war crimes trials at Guantanamo Bay are running into a new obstacle: boycotts by the defendants. Three men accused of being al-Qaida operatives have now chosen to boycott their upcoming trials. More defendants are expected to do the same as the military attempts to prosecute dozens of prisoners at the isolated, high-security U.S. base overlooking the Caribbean. At pretrial hearings this week, two men, a Saudi and a Yemeni, denounced the tribunals as a sham and said they would not appear for future hearings.
