Canadian Geese are beautiful; but they are also messy, potentially aggressive, and capable of cleaning out your backyard pond of water plants in one or two afternoons. Not to mention potential damage to your lawn and gardens from the presents they leave behind! The key to keeping geese out of your yard is in knowing [...]
I forgot to mention but my previous 3 posts contain some pics from my vacation. I'm back to work now *sigh* but thre are still lot's of photos remain unposted. So.. let it be geese day today.
I found these guys in a park which used to be a royal manor. Sadly the manor has been rebuilt recently and lost its ruin-like beauty. However, now its a home to several ducks, geese and swans. I'll post
In my area in particular, Canadian Geese are a large seasonal problem. With each goose producing a pound of poop a day, they can quickly wear out their welcome, and your lawn! I’ve seen several suggestions online, as to how to control a goose population, including swan decoys, lawn treatments, and planting options, but I [...]
This painting was produced on a home made textured board. Having had one coat of white acrylic undercoat, two coats of Gesso primer, one coat of texture paste then two further coats of Gesso primer. The board then had a raw sienna wash (thinned oil paint with turps) applied.I enjoy painting of this type of surface, not only does it have a dry feel and the paint dries that bit quicker but the textu
I so want to do this! Working with my Mum, and herding geese at golf courses, sounds like a great job for a herding breed like me.I think if I learned a few herding techniques, I just may be pretty good at this. With a nice life insurance quote, I could be good to go, 'cause some geese can be pretty nasty. Add to that, there are about five golf courses within 20 minutes of our home. And there are
1. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the bird following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if the bird flew alone.
Moral: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

The Canada Geese Quilt—by Natalie Kinsey-Warnock, Illustrated by Leslie W. Bowman
Boo recently read The Canada Geese Quilt after I pre-read it for him. I was a bit concerned that he might feel a bit sad reading some of it, since illness of a grandparent is a topic, but it was such a special book, I felt the benefits of this lovely book outweighed the concern.

From a distance the Canada goose is easily identified. His body is brown, neck and head black, but his head wears a triangular white patch. He is the biggest of our geese, and is found either as a resident or a migrator over most of the United States.
In the spring and fall, he is seen [...]
Have you ever watched the geese flying south for the winter or returning in the spring? You can learn many secrets to recovering from a divorce by watching the geese. Here are five that can help you recover. I know they work. They helped me get through it. First, geese never fly alone. You [...]

I came across an article from the New York Times about how some home owners are going a little over the top in the race to have the biggest, brightest and over the top Christmas lighting. I have to say it was interesting. I for one like to see houses lit up at Christmas. I was one of those people who went to neighborhoods that were decorated for Christmas, to see the special lights. I even took my residents to those neighborhoods when I was an Activities Director. This was some of the highlights of our Christmas season. Anyway, in exploring this article they sent me to a special blog created to display the tacky decorations that people have put up at Christmas. I don't agree with a lot of the pics they chose but I do have to say the hanging deer from the tree is a little disturbing.
Anyway, if you go to the bottom of the blog about tacky Christmas yards, you will find a yard ornament that is totally unrelated to Christmas. The dog... I have to laugh about this wonderful yard o
Dude. What in the hell is up with all these crazy geese flying overhead? This morning, I heard a DEAFENING sound from outside - I thought it was some new disaster siren or something. Paul and I glanced out and saw literally thousands of geese in the sky, honking their little heads off, flying all crazy - they weren’t all heading in a specific direction or even organized into any sort of pattern. They were just flying across the sky, zig-zagging this way and that, practically bumping into one another. Later today, I heard and saw them again, heading off in a different direction. And just now, at dusk, they’re at it again! What the hell, man? It’s like they’re flying drunk!
Edit: Taylor’s mom just came to pick her up (she spent the night here) and the first thing she said was, “Did you see all those crazy geese?!?” Hehe!
The Land Law doesn’t permit foreigners to buy houses in Vietnam so leasing houses to foreigners has become a sweet deal for many businesses in big cities of Vietnam like Hanoi and HCM City. With a plot of land located at a good site, one can build a house and decorate it modernly for foreigners to lease to earn VND40-50 million (US$2,500-3,100) a month. Many individuals and companies get rich thanks to this servic
A sense of geese When you see geese flying along in "V" formation, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another. When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone - and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those people who are headed the same way we are. When the head goose gets tired, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs, whether with peopl
This photo was taken at the pond next to our home in New Jersey. It’s always filled with geese, especially during migrations. The kids were running around in the grass (which was why I had the camera with me in the first place), and there were a few geese hanging out in the water. The sun was setting in the direction I was pointing the camera, so the reflection in the water was very strong. I snapped a few shots of the birds as the swam in front of us. Nothing major, nothing really planned or thought out — I just took a couple of pictures.
The original color photo (1) wasn’t too bad, but I wanted to see what I could do with black & white. I used the Adobe Photoshop CS3 black & white adjustment layer (2) set to a high contrast blue filter, which is -50% red, -50% yellow, -50% green, 150% cyan, 150% blue, and 150% magenta. There really wasn’t much of anything but red and yellow in there, so it really darkened the photo a lot. I liked the
David Marcks Storyhttp://www.geesepoliceinc.comDavid Marcks discovered a lucrative business opportunity when he used his dog to solve a problem that he constantly faced working at a golf course - the proliferation of geese. Geese love to inhabit open spaces that provide them with water and plenty of food (such as short, tender grasses). While adding a "natural look" to golf courses, no one would want to play in a golf course where the grass couldn't be seen under the cover of goose droppings. Imagine wading in the middle of goose droppings to hit a golf ball. Yikes!David and other fellow golf superintendents tried several approaches. According to David, "We tried everything - sprays, pyrotechnics, flags, fences. Everything worked for a little bit and then it would stop working." Until he discovered that his dog, a Border Collie, was a natural in driving geese away. As he recalls, "It was so successful that I never looked back and we've been doing it ever since."David started Geese Po
This toddler of a blog (established 2 years ago) wishes you a happy new year.A few days in advance for the solar calendar and a few weeks for the lunar one, according to which 2007 happens to be the Year of the Golden Pig. People born in such a year being supposed to grow wealthy, you want to keep an eye on new ventures.Yet, investors are worrying : 2007 looks like a financial terra incognita. Something's gotta give somewhere and somewhen but what, when and where ? Up or down ? East or West ? Not to mention Middle East ?Did China delay its decision on 3G just to wait for a Year of the Golden Pig and give TD-SCDMA a good fat sheng fuishy boost ?Does the year of a filthy animal mean even higher profits for mobile adult contents and mobile casinos ?Do Vodafone's new ambitions in India mean the "I" in BRIC will experience a sudden concentration in telecoms... or does the rebranding of Bangalore into Bengaluru mean Indian players will at last claim the spot they deserve in the global mark
