One of the tragedies of modern life has been the regime of Vladmir Putin who throttled efforts to create a democratic Russia based on principles of free elections and the right of dissent against government. The promising developments in the 1990s have vanished under a pseudo democratic government which has elections in which the government [...]

A while ago Colleen Babcock asked me to test her new pattern that will be released soon. I understand it's gone to the printer.....so watch for that. This is my version of her and what a sweetheart she is. What is especially great, is that she's also functional with the clock in the bottom section. She was a joy to work on, Colleens instructions are very clear and easy to understand, plenty

Could I not find a more meaningful gig?True, I have done the occasional guest column over at the Clay Pigeon humor magazine, but even that does not come close to filling the insatiable gnawing pit of blackness that is my soul. I am considering taking up scrap-booking. I've already got one of those neat scissors that cuts the jagged lines, as

Some girls like guys with beards, like my wife thank God. But When you hear a girl say that they like a guy with a beard they usually are not talking about the guys that gathered at Brighton in the UK for the recent World Beard and Moustache Championship. Todd Herzog, Survivor: China’s openly gay Mormon has been drawing himself some headlines questioning his gayness, his Mormonness… pretty much everything. Check out this from the SLTrib:
The 22-year-old former UVSC student also lists “drinking coffee” as a hobby, which, along with the “openly gay” thing, makes me wonder how Mormon he really is. Can Mormonism be a pose or a gimmick, tried on like a costume to titillate TV casting directors? Oooh, you’re gay AND Mormon? How deliciously conflicted! You’re hired! And is “gay Mormon” becoming a Hollywood cliché?
Herzog isn’t the first openly gay LDS castaway on “Survivor.” In 2005, Salt Lake City-born Rafe Judkins made it to the final three of that season’s “Survivor: Guatemala.” Judkins approached the show with sincerity and a positive attitude, traits he attributed in part to his Mormon faith. Herzog claims to have a similarly enthusiastic o
Staunton City Council will conduct up to three forums around the city to gather citizen input on a proposal to shift city elections to coincide with state and federal elections. The Staunton Electoral Board has asked City Council to consider such a change to save money and to potentially increase voter involvement in local elections. City elections are currently held in May. The proposed change would schedule them to occur with the general election in November. Since changing dates for elections is a significant step for the city, the members of City Council want to hear from city residents before taking action. The public forums on election dates will be held: * 7 p.m. Monday, October 1 in the Lee High School cafeteria, and * 7 p.m. Monday, October 22 in the Shelburne Middle School cafeteria A third forum may be scheduled later. Members of City Council will be present at all forums and any resident of the City of Staunton is invited to attend and speak to the subject. Residents
With the passing of Michael Jackson, Beer Blogging Friday founder Stan Hieronymus and I have decided to dedicate next week's event to Michael's memory. His influence on beer journalism and beer appreciation is a great gift that he gave to all. Here's to The Beer Hunter. Just a week to go before the next Beer Blogging Friday. The Brew Zoo is the topic selected for The Session #7. The basic rule is that either the brewery or the beer must have a real live creature in its name. We will also allow beers with prominent animal label art (think Geary's Ale from Maine and its Lobster) to be added to the Brew Zoo.Why pick a whimsical topic like this for such a serious event as Beer Blogging Friday? I know I'm out of the edge on this one, but perhaps I am just a little bit concerned about the impact of global warming on the temperature of my beer and the resulting endangered species status of some hard to find animal brews. Has anyone seen an Emu Bitter lately? How about a 12-Horse Ale? I h

Christos Garkinos and Cameron Silver, co-owners of Los Angeles designer consignment Decades, have enjoyed great critical and commercial success since the store’s inception, the owners have now doubledthe boutique’s size, with a grand re-opening of decadestwo! They explain the cornerstone to their success as three-fold:• A large number of the consignors are celebrities, iconic fashionistas and exuberant shoppers who are passionate about clothing.• The boutique is highly-selective, accepting only 20% of what consignors bring and offers labels such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Chloé, Marc Jacobs and emerging designers.• Everyday shoppers enjoy savings of up to 80% off of original prices. Have you been convinced to go yet? I recommend it but dont mind it if some of the sales people growl at you, they were horrible to us but just think of all the fabulous things you are buying that they cant afford!
The potential replacement for Christijan Albers was probably the most discussed race seat in past 2 weeks. Spyker took their time and then named Marcus Winkelhock as the replacement, but very likely for European GP only. There were several other names discussed, the top favourites being van der Garde (Dutch with money), Klien (available and with racing experience) and Karthikeyan (racing experience with money). Now more names were added, like Nelson Piquet Jr and Nico Hulkenberg, but both apparently rejected the chance to bury their future prospects in Spyker. All of a sudden out of nowhere Sakon Yamamoto appears as an alleged favourite for the seat. The driver rumours do not end at Spyker though. Next come Toro Rosso, Renault, Williams, Toyota and even McLaren. The hottest topic of the moment is the messy situation in Toro Rosso team. Speed has clearly had enough of Tost and Berger. In return both bosses seem to have had enough of both race drivers Liuzzi and Speed. There are only few p

In my last post, I discussed the major events that motivate prospects to start thinking realistically about buying or selling - the “awareness” stage.
In this post, I’ll address the “information gathering” stage because it is at this stage when prospects start considering whether to buy or sell their home. Something has happened that has made them aware that buying or selling their home is worth investigating.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Jane Hoeppner wanted her husband to have one last game day.
So players dressed in their white jerseys and red sweat pants, met at Assembly Hall and even got a pep talk from the coach’s wife. But when Terry Hoeppner couldn’t lead them across the parking lot to the football stadium, his spirit did.
Hoeppner’s players and coaches, friends and colleagues gathered Saturday in Bloomington to say an emotional farewell to the coach who spent two seasons reinvigorating more…

Americans have gathered all around the United States to push Congress to make an 80 percent cut in emissions of carbon monoxide by the year 2050.
Every state was involved in a nationwide demonstration that included over 1,300 events under the banner Step It Up 2007. One 12-year-old girl said, “When it comes to global warming, I don’t exactly think President Bush is doing such a hot job.”
A large group of people formed a human line dressed in blue, and some holding beach balls and scuba gear, to show the future coastline in New York. Scientists are saying that a 10 ft rise in ocean level from the melting of polar ice caps will flood lower Manhattan and other coastal areas.
These events were started by a group of students at the Middlebury College in Vermont who advertised for the events by using word of mouth, e-mail messages and blogs. One of the students said, “We see this to be the most pressing issue of our time, and our generation.”
HAVANA -- One of the most-visible faces of Cuba's caretaker government urged the island's young people Wednesday to ignore capitalism's ''siren song,'' while acknowledging that the country's current communist system was not as ''ideal'' as had been desired.Marking the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth Union, Vice President and Cabinet Secretary Carlos Lage said the revolution that Fidel Castro led by toppling dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959 will have to live on in a generation that may be unsure of what it is rebeling against.''We always knew the biggest challenge of socialism is to instill in young people a communist conscience and rejection of capitalism, without having lived in it, without having seen the moral damage it produces,'' Lage said, addressing a packed house at Havana's Karl Marx Theater.Part of the union's job now, he said, is to help make young people ``immune to the siren song of capitalism.''Lage is a key member of the prov
Some Words for May 1stWe gather here on May 1st to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the 5 Decade long struggle known as "The Cold War". Many may ask why commemorate these men on May 1st. The fall of the Berlin Wall or the dissolving of the Soviet Union are anniversaries that might just as well be the one marked on the calender for this occasion.Allow me to tell you why.May 1st Communist Party Workers day, a day In the Communist Block mandatory upon the proletarian organizations of all countries to stop work on [[May 1]], This was a day to celebrate the accomplishments of the State and maybe most importantly to show case the power of the Red military machine. I do not think there is anyone of us old enough who cannot remember those ominous news reel images of troops, tanks, and missiles rolling down the parade route endlessly in Moscow and repeated all over Eastern Europe and Asia and even in our own hemisphere. These images were a annual reminder to us that we were l

Arun Sarin will give the bulk of the cash (£6bn out of 6.8) to his shareholders ; more value for the short sighted. At least, Sir Christopher's successor starts preparing a much awaited coming out* : "We may no longer be mobile only. We may get into other services in the telecommunications space (...) not particularly (...) landline assets". A glimpse of a leader's grand vision or a shy follower's wishful thought ?
So the World's biggest mobile community focuses on Europe, with a few colonies around (as a MNO, M-VNO or reseller), and a big problem to solve in the US. I guess a smaller but stronger and more united Kingdom makes sense, but it would require a genuine shift in the business model to create long term value.
