      Biggest Loser Gains Momentum!
A lot more weight loss this week. They did it while on vacation in Jamaica. Congratulations to all of them. I can tell you that I’ve certainly never lost weight on a tropical vacation. Again, the drama and game of the show is not my focus. Obesity carries some very heavy baggage with it in the form of collateral health issues. My only goal in following Biggest Loser is to call attention to those health issues and how weight and weight loss impact life insurance rates. My disclaimer. There is an assumption as I provide quotes that there are no underlying health issues. Because insurance companies reward long term weight loss, there will be an assumption that the weight loss has been kept off for more than a year. All life insurance quotes are for $250,000 of 20 year term insurance. I will be using the company that will make the best offer at any given height and weight. All quotes will be yearly premiums. Early education gains momentum in states
This fall, states will see the results of the big bucks they are promising to plug into early education programs. Among several states expanding access to preschool classes, Washington state will have an extra 2,250 pre-kindergarten spaces, Oregon will serve another 3,200 youngsters, and Tennessee will have up to 5,000 more openings. Meanwhile, kindergartners in seven states could see their school hours double as the drive for all-day kindergarten gains momentum. It’s all part of a push to get more kids learning at a young age when, research has shown, their brains still are developing and they’re most likely to soak in information. Advocates also say that students who have attended preschool are less likely to commit crimes later and more likely to attend college, get jobs and pay taxes. So far this year legislatures in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington are among those that answered the call of a record 29 governors who s

The Wayne Hardin Project gains momentum
From left, Hardin, The Manhattan Project, Kennedy"This nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth, " President John F. Kennedy, May 25, 1961 By Mike GibsonForget about the degree of difficulty with The Kennedy Project or The Manhattan Project or even The Alan Parsons Project. The Wayne Hardin Project could make them all seem like child's play in comparison.Back in 1961, when Kennedy stood before Congress and said that "this nation should commit itself" to putting a man on the moon before the end of the decade, there were a lot of "huh?" looks in the gallery."Moon? You mean that same moon that's up in the sky?"In the early 1940s, when a group of scientists said they were committed to splitting the atom, people said:"What, are you crazy? Do you know how small that thing is?"That's sort of the same reaction Hardin got when he went on the Temple football post-game show in November and "guara

April Fool’s Day Truckers’ “Shutdown” Gains Momentum
"Call it a strike, a shutdown or just flat-ass going broke.” That's how independent trucker/cattle hauler Dan Little describes his intention to pull over on April first. The Quad City Times reports that "what started as a small, online grassroots effort now appears to have the potential for something bigger." Little's website-- uscattlehaulers.com-- is the locus for the one-day action. He's calling for a suspension of all federal and state fuel taxes, insurance changes and countrywide uniformity in safety regs. Little says he has two thousand truckers pledging their participation. Little does not have the support of either the all-important Teamsters Union (800k+ truckers) or the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (160k+ small trucking companies an
