      French Fries You Should Eat
Well, as promised, I’m still high on fall. I’ve been sipping hot apple ciders all week and cuddling in my blankets, the windows open, at night. Pretty soon, I’m hitting an apple orchard with two of my friends and co-workers, and I’m already dreaming of the apple cider doughnuts and pumpkins I will buy. How [...]

Inside Track: From Freedom Fries to War Powers
Representative Walter B. Jones of North Carolina, a conservative Republican who supported the Iraq War and co-sponsored the resolution that expunged French fries from the House cafeteria menu and renamed them "freedom fries", might seem an unlikely foe of President George W. Bush. But then Jones saw the reality of the war he had helped unleash. A steady stream of dead and wounded soldiers from his district began to trickle back from the Iraqi battle front as the insurgency grew and the White House seemed at a loss to either explain or put an end to the worsening situation. Jones also became concerned about the increasingly bellicose rhetoric coming out of the White House regarding Iran, language that seemed to suggest that another and far worse war was about to begin. At that point, Jones decided to work with other like-minded congressional leaders to impede the president's ability to go to war without any meaningful political process. The first place Congressman Jones looked to

Can I Get Fries With That?
In a new low McDonald’s has started advertising to kids directly from their report cards in Florida. The advertisement appears on report cards envelopes for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The envelopes are used to transport report cards to and from home throughout the school year. Get good grades and get a happy meal? I’m disgusted, absolutely disgusted. Not only are they bribing kids to get good grades, but bribing them with McDonald’s. McDonald’s? Because bribing them with pizza for reading books isn’t enough junk food I guess. Because learning for the sake of learning couldn’t be enough. Instead we have to tell kids that it’s a pain to have to learn important things so here’s a greasy burger to sweeten the deal. I’m not saying kids shouldn’t have treats now and then, I’m one who thinks the cupcake ban was a step too far. But I personally HATE McDonald’s and the whole “fast food” indust

Duck Pond Fries' Family Cellars 2005 Oregon Pinot Noir
The Duck Pond 2005 Oregon Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown in the Willamette Valley, with 91% from the south Salem Hills and 9% from the Red Hills. The soil in these vineyards are primarily "Jory" soil, a week volcanic ash and rock type that promotes a low-yielding crop, giving the wine special characteristics. It shows a clear ruby/purple color in the glass. The nose offers soft fruit and berries with red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and obvious smokey tobacco aromas. In your mouth it continues on the more elegant fruit notes with red cherry, raspberry, and here the tobacco and especially the smoke stands out and lingers, way past the fruit is gone, on the palate. It is definitely of the more elegant style with lighter red fruit and berries. I wish this medium bodied wine was a little bit more complex on fruit/berries, which are on the thin side, to stand up better to the smokey aspect of it.Find this wine at Wine-Searcher.com from $17.49.Vote for my blog here and help me stay in

      Sweet Potato Fries
I just had lunch at Burger Heaven Burger Heaven where the salad was average and so was the service. Nothing about the place seems memorable except their Sweet Potato Fries. I know, I know. I didn't even try a burger, but I had read some unimpressive reviews about their burgers and I wasn't in the mood to regret my lunch. Things like a bad burger, pizza, or french fries will bother me all day!!As we walked towards our seats, I spotted their sweet potato fries. What caught me eye was that they were thin cut fries, not the steak fries size you usually see for sweet potato fries. I had to try it! While it wasn't mind blowing, they were really good, something I'd like to eat again. Why haven't other places caught on? Cut the sweet potato into thinner slices!! Otherwise they get soggy and gross. They also had a light coating kinda like Burger King fries, again helping with maintaining the crispiness. Go Sweet Potato Fries!

      Momo Loves French Fries
Momo, at 11 months, has started on a diet that will astound a lot of childcare ‘experts’. Just last weekend, he had ‘murtabak’ and french fries. For breakfast. And boy does he love it! Waving his hands excitedly, making a lot of ‘ummm’ sounds, impatiently staring at us to feed him another piece of french fries. Of course, french fries aren’t his staple diet. We’re not that nuts! He does eat healthy food like porridge and rusks and he’s still dependent on milk. Speaking of milk, we’ve just switched his beverage of choice from yucky stage 2 Mamil Gold/Similac to …. Nespray! He’s now drinking the same type of milk as his brother, Booboo. Well, for now, at least. Pretty soon, we’ll be switching Booboo’s milk to the age 3+ and older Nespray. Not that he minds the milk he’s drinking now, but for the benefit of his nutrition, for his growth, blah, blah, blah, we’ll change it.

      Masala Chips (Masala French Fries)
By the time I was in the 7th standard, I along with a few neighbourhood kids had perfected the art of making a good potato chip. Known in this country as the French Fry or in the fly over states as Freedom Fries (sad, isn't it?). In India young boys are always discouraged from carrying experiments in the kitchen. As a children of parents who were busy and away from home most of the day, my friends and I found the kitchens at our disposal during the afternoons. We would have potato chip parties between games of 'galli' cricket. It involved everyone stealing 2 potatoes from home and maybe some oil. Stealing oil from the oil dispenser on the kitchen counter was a rookie mistake that would get caught. Only the seasoned potato chipper knew to steal directly from the 15 litre Postman dabba as a few missing cups wouldn't be detected. The loot would then be gathered at one of the kitchens where peeling and cutting began. As a measure to increase the number of chips per potato, we would cut

"Do You Want Fries With That?" Is a much easier question!
When our family takes vacations we typically drive, as the cost of flying and renting a car is cost prohibitive. Because we rarely rent a car, the last time my husband and I went to Florida on our own without the children we rented a car and when they asked if we wanted rental insurance we just stood there and looked at each other. We didn't know. We had never thought about it before! When it

      Secret To Crispy French Fries
The secret to crisp and crunchy fries is in the heat. This recipe is for pan fries, which are tasty and better for you than deep-friedSteps:1. Chop potatoes into wedges.2. Boil in salted water for about 10-12 minutes.3. Drain water from the potatoes.4. Place on a shallow baking tray with lots of olive oil (don't use extra virgin, it will smoke) and toss them around in the oil until completely coated. Canola oil also works.5. Put it in the oven at 425-450ºF.6. Periodically toss them around as they bake, scoop and flip with the implement of your choice. The minute they are almost done, jack the temperature up to 500 degrees--seriously--and cook for just a few more minutes. Watch carefully! This gives them extra crispiness--so good! A trick from a famous San Fran chef.7. If you are deep frying, you will NOT be able to get the oil hot enough in most consumer kitchens to produce a truly crispy fry, so don't even bother deep frying at home. So take your fries—even frozen ones—and put t

Start calling 'em French fries again
Maybe we've confused the French with the French media. The election of pro-America Nicolas Sarkozy to the presidency of France shows that the French people don't hate us as much as our media would like us to believe. Yep, it's time to start ordering "French" fries again (not that I ever called 'em "Freedom" fries). The election of Nicolas Sarkozy to the presidency of France has been a serious blow to those who claim that America has earned the undying hatred of Europeans. Oh, to be sure, the French media hates us, but there are a lot of people who say ours does too. Regardless, Sarkozy’s victory has sent shock waves through the world’s media centers. A French president who openly admires America is an embarrassment to those who view us as the country bumpkin cousins of the sophisticated Europeans. American pundits and politicians who say we should change our foreign policies to win the European popularity contest ought to be feeling a little embarr

      Free Arby’s Curly Fries (kinda)
If you like Nascar, raise your hand. Now take that hand in the air and use it to slap your head. Haha, sorry, I kid, but I personally can’t stand watching a bunch of cars drive around in a circle. However, that was before I found out that every time Matt Kenseth wins a race, you can get some free Arby’s curly fries! Basically, if he wins, you can either: Bring in a coupon they’ll put online on their site that day only. Bring in official race results from a sports website or newspaper. Suddenly I’m a Matt Kenseth fan and now I hope his car goes around that circle the fastest! [via the forums]Technorati Tags: free, Arby’s, curly fries, nascar, matt kenseth

Speed Painting with Ketchup and French Fries
This caught my attention becuase I saw "Super Size Me" on television not long ago. I have not been able to go back to McDonald's since. Of course it is not to difficult since we don't have one here in Rosthern and I have not been to the city in a couple of weeks. This guy does a pretty good job of painting with ketchup and french fries I think. i know I could not do it. I could not even draw it with a pencil.Tags: painting, mcdonalds, youtube, video, videorambler

      Lotus Root Fries
Hmmm ... leftover lotus root from my last recipe. I'm feeling a little burned out from the regular stews and stir-fries so I thought I'd go the "East meets West" route this time around. What better way to accomplish this than a fusion with the all - time American favorite deep-fried snack - French Fries. I don't get why they call them french fries. But then again, I don't get why they call hamburgers hamburgers anyway. Well if you do, enlighten me.Anyway, moving along from the confusion to the fusion, I've decided to whip up some lotus root fries with my leftover lotus root. Whether or not you are a fan of french fries, you really should give this fusion lotus root fries recipe a whirl. Not only does it have less calories, lotus root is rich in vitamin C and dietary fiber.Another way in cooking lotus root (aka "Renkon" in Japanese) is raw in salads. A simple toss with mirin wine, sesame oil and soy sauce, and you got yourself a healthy, delicious lotus root salad, a delectable del

"Federline Fries!" Who Knew K-Fed Had So Much POWER?!
Apparently there was some sort of game last night and in it a couple of sports teams played for some sort of award.  This of course is secondary to the commercials which have taken prominence in recent years.  In this cleaned-up, no boobies version of the Super Bowl, there was still room for some controversy and people complaining about it. We know that baseball has ceased to be the national pastime and many thought football would replace it, but now it looks as if NASCAR would be the new victor. Unfortunately these both fall a distant second to the true national pastime - being stupid.  This is evidenced in no more perfect way that the drama surrounding a commercial for Nationwide Insurance starring everyone’s favorite ex-hubby Kevin Federline (K-Fed to my peeps - what what!) If you haven’t seen this marvelous piece of advertising cinema - check it out. The commercial is supposed to be making fun of K-Fizzie and the fact that his baby mama, Bimbo Brit-ney, sent him back

From Couch Potatoes to French Fries - World Cup and Giant Screens - the new mass media
Flat screens didn't wait for the World Cup to defeat old cathodic tubes, but the clear winner of the competition could be the Giant Screen.TV operators now enjoy new channels and propose an extreme customer experience : as the main public media, TV follows the event down to the streets and stadia and while couch potatoes remain stuck on their sofas, masses now stand up in public places like French Fries in cornets. The phenomenon even overshadowed such traditional semi-private diffusion sites as restaurants and bars.Giant screens really became mainstream during the 2002 World Cup in Korea, when millions would hit the streets to follow the great campaign of the Taeguk Warriors. Back in 1998, public events would just gather a few thousands souls (ie in front of Paris' city hall). For the 2006 edition, which took place over 1,000 kms away, Parisians would flock by tens of thousands in the Parc des Princes, Jean-Bouin and Charlety stadia. Simultaneously. In a city where organizers tradit
