Lately I feel I lost control over things. I keep going out every night and pretty much sleep all day. I barely have time to do anything. I skipped gym a couple of times and it shows. I made a lot of dodgy friends, who keep calling me and invite me places, and instead of telling them no thank you, I keep going, and meet new people who are no good for me. When I first came here to Barcelona, I was looking for piece of mind. I only had it for a very short while, but I failed miserably in maintaining it. I'm pulling a Winehouse here! You know what, I'm glad I'm leaving soon. I'm going home for a couple of months. I need a good dose of reality to put things in order.
Now, speaking as someone who is gradually deblobbifying himself, I don’t dispute that it would be better, all other things being equal, if people in America were fitter. Nevertheless, an article at today’s msn.com about the financial benefits of eliminating obesity, which compiles figures from various fields and concludes that the U.S. would save $487 billion every year, had some glaring
Or is there? Stuck for something to do over lunch this Wednesday, or wish you could get away from the shop/office for an hour? Why not get along to Christ Church and enjoy the FREE talk (this week it's a light-hearted look at the lace industry) plus soup and sandwiches (a donation to the church would be appreciated). As ever, the church scene might not be for you but that's the whole point here. The good people from Christ Church are trying hard to open doors, show a friendly face, encourage people to use the beautiful old church in the centre of Crewe. It doesn't have to be about traditional worship on a Sunday. Show them a little support if you can. Check out the Christ Church blog here for further details...
This is a true story that I’ve taken from one of the motivational books that I’m reading at this moment. This book is called “See You at the Top” by one of the world most renowned self-help guru named Zig Ziglar. This story was so meaningful that I would like to share it with all [...]

It is Christmas and THIS is the moment to renew all your entertainment gadgets, taking advantage of the million offers the market provides. What about Free Shipping and No Sales Tax?Not bad if it comes with good qualityTV Stands and, of course good prices.Like for example a Furnitech FT71CRC TV Stand up to 71" TVs for $1,099.00 with Free Shipping/No Tax.AnotherTV Stand I would buy is this wonderful Sanus CFAR47- Component Espresso or Cherry & Black TV Armoire (Free Shipping/No Tax) at $1,199.00.You can place it in any style living room and hide your TV and accessories, just closing the doors. With very little you have both, a place to hide your TV and a nice piece of furniture. The nice side of it is that you can find matchingAudio Video Towers. Also these come Free Shipping/No Tax at the very good price of $599.00 (but you can find also more convenient ones).Well, sometimes is even difficult to choose among so many good offers. They look so nice, it is even a pity to use them as TV stands!
Murdoch Intends to Drop WSJ.com FeeADELAIDE, Australia, Nov. 13 (AP) — Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of the News Corporation, said today that he intended to make access to The Wall Street Journal’s Web site free, trading subscription fees for anticipated ad revenue.“We are studying it and we expect to make that free, and instead of having one million, having at least 10 million-15 million in every corner of the earth,” Mr. Murdoch said, referring to The Journal’s online readership. The News Corporation has signed an agreement to acquire Dow Jones & Company, and the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. A special shareholders meeting is scheduled for Dec. 13 in New York.Mr. Murdoch said he believed that a free model, with increased readership for wsj.com, will attract “large numbers” of big-spending advertisers. The Web site, one of the few news sites globally to successfully introduce a subscription model, currently has around one million subscribers, which genera
Of course we knew immediately. At 11:45 and we were pleasantly weary after far too much good company and more than a drop of wine. The baby sitter left, almost scurried and there is was, right next to the three toothbrushes, right next to the coffee maker, obvious and white and large and unused and still folded. He legged it upstairs and I pouted at the pull-up. Another baby sitter crossed off the list, another load of laundry coming my way. When he reappears I can hardly see my knight in his non-work attire, as he is a mobile laundry pile, covered in six feet of soggy duvet, sheet, mattress cover, pillow, pillow cover and duvet cover, a royal flush.“Is he alright?”“Ooo yes. Happy as a Lark, soggy as a………very soggy person.” It is late.“I’ll put the first load on and go and wash him then.”“Already done.”“Really?”“Clean as a whistle.”“Sleeping bag?”“Done.”“Last visit to squeeze out the last drop?”“Absolutely. ‘Two wets beds for one
In case some of you haven’t heard yet, the UAW (United Auto Workers) have gone on strike for the first time in 37 years.
Their biggest concern according to union leaders? Job Security. Read that again.
These guys just walked out on their jobs because they somehow think in their misguided view of reality that leaving your job one day will help to guarantee that the job you left today will be there for you and only you to work tomorrow.
Seriously? Did these guys just miss the free market economic boat or what?
From the article:
“Job security is one of our primary concerns,” UAW President Ron Gettelfinger told reporters Monday afternoon after talks broke off and the strike began. “We’re talking about investment and we’re talking about job creation” and preserving benefits, he said.
You Don’t preserve jobs through signed contracts and agreements. You preserve jobs by growing. You grow by having your employees create more value than they consu
Silicon Valley has some interesting ways of getting people together to meet and greet, one of them is the Lunch 2.0 program where companies open up their doors, invite everyone who is working in the valley to come in and see what is happening at various companies. This might be similar to the Wednesday morning coffee break in Eastlake in Seattle.
September 12th is the day that Hitachi opens up its doors according to Lunch 2.0, which might be a place to watch in case anyone is interested in going and visiting Hitachi.
If Hitachi is not your bag, there will be Topix, Box, Pandora, Plaxo, Podtech, Riya, Simply Hired, Zazzle, Zooomer and Zvents also at the lunch.
You can get more info here
It looks like it will be interesting, of course we will be no where near Santa Clara, nor the Valley, rather we will be mired hip deep in something over here in Seattle doing our own thing, and otherwise enjoying the life of a startup. Maybe having coffee at Louisa’s on Eastlake Ave, listening to th

Is there such a thing as a free lunch? While tradition says there is no such thing, I beg to differ.I was taken out to lunch today by my esteemed colleagues at The Firm. In fact, this has happened about half of my working days so far. It cost me nothing and I ate well each time. So, from my standpoint, it was a "free" lunch.Of course, it could also be argued that The Firm paid for my lunch with money it could otherwise use to pay me. In other words, my salary was reduced to pay for my lunch. But I really don't think they would pay me more money if they weren't taking me to lunch. Honestly, they are paying me well enough as it is. Of course, there is always the possibility that my esteemed colleagues at The Firm will try to take it out of my hide when/if I become an associate after I graduate. The lunches aren't terribly expensive, but a free lunch is a free lunch. It is money I don't have to spend. So, while there are still free lunches, I will continue to accept them. Ho
