I've started insulating the basement walls in the new storage room. I'm attaching 1" extruded polystyrene foam insulation board by DOW. I used a special Styrofoam adhesive to adhere the foam board to the concrete. The foam board I am using comes with a tongue and grove so installation is pretty easy. Just cut the boards to length, apply some adhesive and press it against the wall.After I installed all of the polystyrene foam insulation I sealed all of the joints with Tyvek tape. Tyvek tape is a really strong tape that will stay adhered to the foam board and it keeps out moisture. I love this piece of artwork alot...I believe it shows her passion for art and her budding skill, and she's so proud of it (therefore, so am I). I've spent some time the last few days agonizing over which pieces to enter. My husband had his say in the matter, as did several other family members. How to build a storage shedMaterial for roof frame10- 2x4 x 36"- Rafters (20 deg one end, 22 ½ deg other end)10- 2x4x 36"- Rafters (22 1/2 deg each end)15- GussettsLay them on a table or floor.Start with two top rafters that have the 20 deg angle cut. All 20 deg angle cut are for the top that form the peak, all the others will be 22 1/2 deg angle.Spread the bottom and make sure it is the exact same distance of shed, and the peak is in the center.Nail a gusset where the rafters join.Make sure all your trusses are exactlly the same, use your first truss as a template to build the rest.Set truss in place, directly over the wall studs, and nail them.

copyright Vivien BlackburnKatherine asked me to show how I frame work, so .... here goes :) This is how I framed the big mixed media and pastel abstracted flower.The frame is over 3ft square and the mount was either 4 or 5 inches wide - I think it might have been 5 with 5.5 inches at the bottom. It could even have had a wider mount (mat) - but the framing costs got a bit much! My framer taught me when I was starting out that it pays to have an extra half inch at the bottom to stop the 'falling out of the frame' look that you can get if the mount is equal all the way round.I don't use coloured mounts, just antique white - a soft creamy colour. I usually frame in limed ash - again a pale neutral colour that lets the painting be the key element. By using one type of wood they all look right together in a show. The widths of the frame may vary but the 'look' is the same.I never frame work on canvas. I use gallery wrap canvas and paint the edges - usually in a colour that works with t

A quick posting today as I have been working so hard on the painting front! When my framing frenzy was over and the dust finally settled in my studio last night, there were 54 paintings ready to go to the show. I decided to leave two of the larger paintings here, and delivered 52 to Putnam Arts Council's Belle Levine Gallery this morning. It's going to look awesome! I'll try to get some pics to post after everything is hung and ready. I'll also be at the Gallery on Saturday, December 9 from 2-5, and on Tuesday, December 12 from 12-3 for anyone who wants a personal tour of the exhibit.
