The Bielski Brothers Jewish Resistance and the "Otriad"   The Bielski partisans   Prior to the onset of WWII, conditions throughout occupied Poland & Belarus varied greatly. In some areas, especially in eastern Poland, which the Soviet Union invaded in 1939, and subsequently "formally" annexed, the situation was particularly volatile.   During the two year' occupation till the Soviet-German war outbreak in 1941, the Soviets carried out the ethnic cleansing of Poles considered as a potential threat to full annexation of these territories into Soviet Union.   Hundred of thousands of Polish officials, officers, soldiers, policemen, teachers, churchmen, landowners, and civilians with their families were sent to Siberian concentration camps. "I fought for my land against the US. Now I fight alongside them"
Times Online -- As a loyal officer under Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi major never imagined that one day he would become an insurgent, but when Iraq fell five years ago he was left bitter, jobless and desperate to drive the invading forces out.“I saw my country collapse right in front of my eyes,” said Abu Abdullah, who has since orchestrated countless attacks against the US military, spent time in the notorious Abu Ghraib detention centre and briefly joined forces with al-Qaeda.Recalling the invasion, he told The Times: “I felt as though my freedom was being snatched from me. It was one of the darkest moments of my life.”He, like many Sunni Arab officers and other Saddam supporters, resorted to guerrilla warfare to kill better-equipped US soldiers but gradually found that his national

Last Time Three Drivers Fought For The F1 Title In The Last Race
Year 1986. After round 15 in Mexico City there were still 3 drivers left to fight out for the title in the last race of the season, in Australian GP in Adelaide. Nigel Mansell stood at 70 pts, Alain Prost at 64 pts and Nelson Piquet at 63 pts. The points system was a bit more complicated that time, but basically any of these 3 drivers could win the title with favourable result in the last race. Each of drivers was a “champion” at certain stages of the race. Nigel Mansell had the title pretty much in the bag when his left rear tyre exploded spectacularly. He displayed some amazing car control and safely “parked” his car by the wall. He was fine but out of the title race. That meant Piquet took the lead not only of the race, but also of the championship… But for a short while only… He had to go for a precautionary pit stop following some vibrations from the rear of his car. He changed tyres, Prost took the lead. No further mishaps for Prost (he had t

"She Fought The Lawn But The Lawn Won"
Earlier in the week I came across the story of Betty Perry, 70 years old, who was arrested after she scuffled with a police officer who went to her home because she had let her lawn go brown. During the struggle Perry fell and injured her nose and according to her attorney, Gloria Allred, she was handcuffed with "bruises and blood." Betty Perry is being charged with resisting arrest and failing to maintain her landscape, both misdemeanors.Pause here and reflect on the fact that we live in a society where resisting arrest and not watering your lawn are considered equal. The city attorney of Orem, Utah, having eradicated all forms of crime, is still pressing charges because there's nothing better to do or he/she really loves lawns. Don't get me wrong I know that resisting arrest is not something that should be taken lightly or ignored but the arrest stemmed from her having a brown lawn. Various media outlets report at the end of the story that Betty Perry had the water shut off at her

      I fought the law!
And I WON!! Remember me boo-hoo-hooing about my speeding ticket back in MARCH? And then again, feeling stupid for pleading not guilty in April, because I was going to have to sit down with the officer and the judge and defend myself? I’ve spent MONTHS now, worrying about this stupid ticket. I have no idea why. It’s not like people don’t get tickets every day. It’s not as though they don’t see dozens of people every day trying to talk their way out of it. But still, I’m so bad about confrontation - I was really, really dreading the final hearing. So, it finally came yesterday. And Paul couldn’t go with me!! Our sitter fell through at the last minute, and he had to stay home with the kids. So it was all up to me! And it was like real, actual court. It was me, the cop, and the judge in a courtroom. I had to go up and take the stand and present evidence and everything. And this is where I have to give props to my husband - it sure is helpful being

LeBron James Fought Hard but Fell Short For Game 1
LeBron James and the Cavs faced up against the Detroit Pistons yesterday but their showing was lack luster. LeBron James uncharacteristically was very silent the entire game, only scoring 10 points. He was not the only player that had a bad game; his teammates did not help out with the Cavs guards making only 8 of their 27 shots. The final score was a low scoring 79-76 which goes to show that even though LeBron James and the Cavs had a poor performance they still hung in there and lost by only three. Next game, LeBron James will need to focus on getting open and scoring points. The Pistons are a Veteran team who have had a lot of playoff experience. LeBron James will calm down and come back strong for game 2.
