Slydial for folks who don’t like to talk

They were thrilled with this, and my mother started wondering where all the other family photo albums had got to. After lunch we went shopping and I was delighted

The question is.... Will it work? The Story: GOP sees Rev. Wright as pathway to victory (Via Politico.com) Quote: For months, Republican party officials have watched with increasing trepidation as Barack Obama has shattered fundraising records, packed arena after arena with shrieking fans and pulled in significant Republican and independent votes. Now, with the emergence of the notorious video showing the Rev. Jeremiah Wright damning the country, criticizing Israel, faulting U.S. policy for the Sept. 11 attacks and generally lashing out against white America, GOP strategists believe they’ve finally found an antidote to Obamamania.   In their view, the inflammatory sermons by Obama’s pastor offer the party a pathway to victory if Obama emerges as

Dropbox: SVN for the regular folks
Subversion ((software)) is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. When I'm working with a project team at school, we're working with Tortoise SVN (). This SVN application is very useful to share files & folders in a Windows shell. If another team member screws up your source code, you can easily revert to a previous version. It really looks like the Time Machine on Mac OSX (). The only downside to this, is that SVN can be pretty hard setting up. You'll need to have knowledge about SSH () and understand UNIX (). Most people don't have this knowledge and that's where Dropbox kicks in. Simply drag your files to your shared folder on your computer and everyone who you invite will be able to share the files. This way, you ca

Hire workaholics fire folks who have a life
In general I would tend to disagree with Jason Calacanis, he says and does things that make Gordon Ramsey (Kitchen Nightmares) look good, I could not and would not have him as a boss, nor would I hire him as employee. But when he is right, especially when it comes to startups, you have to [...]

      My Folks
I spent the day with Mum on Thursday. It was nice to just relax and chat. We did some cooking, had some laughs, watched a DVD. I don't really get much time with my parents these days. And as a general rule that is how I used to like it. Not that I didn't care for them I just preferred little interaction, because on many occasions I never saw eye-to-eye with my Father. It wasn't until I came out back in 2003'ish that we finally started to understand one another. I guess he finally realised why I was, the way I was and acted the way I did. And I realised that he really did care for my well being deep down. I would not say we are close as I would have liked but I do love them very much and as the years roll by, I find myself particularly nervous about them leaving me. I don't want their lifeti

Wine makes the old folks dance
Ten years ago, if you had asked the general consumer to name a favorite Italian wine, Chianti, Lambrusco, Valpolicella and Soave might chime in, with perhaps a Barolo or some kind of Montepulciano in the mix. Today, the talk not only includes Brunello, Amarone and Super-Tuscans, but Bolgheri, Nero d'Avola and Lugana. This is just the tip of a vinous iceberg that is melting and leaving myriad choices at wine lovers' feet. Aside from our weakened dollar, this more intensive labor quite naturally translates into higher prices. Importers now encourage a better product, and the results are often jaw-dropping. This week's column visits regions all over the map—from the tip of Alto Adige to the offshore southern island of Sicily. Some wines are familiar. Some are absolutely novel to America's

A Chunky Guide to Melbourne (it's a long one, folks!)
Leena eats Melbourne. It tastes like chicken salt. ***NOTE***This post is from November 2007-ish. It is late because I am slow and drowning in homework, but it’s a long one filled with tons of food, so it’s worth it, damn it. ***SECOND NOTE*** Don't know what chunky means? Find out here. When people think of Australia, they usually think of Sydney and Melbourne. In fact, before I moved here, people would constantly say, oh, Australia? Are you moving to Sydney or Melbourne? Like no other city existed. They were partially right. I had already visited Sydney, and while I loved it, I had to hit up its sister, Melbourne. She deserved some loving too, damn it. Read more! »

Alana and I went to the Jones Street Boys show at Soundfix in Brooklyn last week. If you've never been there, it's a newly redone cross between a show space and a coffee shop, attached to a great record shop. Normally, it's just about the most relaxed show space around. Apparently not when the Jones Street Boys are there. The music itself was really incredible, and having seen the band a ton of times, including Danny Erker and Jon Hull in their previous band, I've never heard them sound better. Their midwest tour did them well in many ways.I have no idea where the wigs and sombrero came from, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the beer. The Jones Street Boys Website

      Hide your vibes folks…
Yep, you heard it here first. The TSA (Travel Scare Authority) is now going to requiring all electronic items to be removed from your bag and put through the X-Ray machine. I was in the Cincinnati airport today and during this ‘pilot program’ I was asked to remove all of my electronic equipment from my bag. That meant anything that could be turned on and off. However this pilot program is not ready for prime time because I had an electric shaver in my roll aboard suitcase and a Bluetooth headset in the pocket of my backpack. I failed to remove those items and yet I was not stopped and required to take those out of my baggage. I got to stand around in line for quite some time because I was behind a family of 5 or 6 that had packed a ton of stuff and I felt rude just going around them, i

The Lingam Tape: Let them postpone their meeting, folks!
Well well well…Looks like the much touted Independent Panel recently set up by the government to verify the authenticity of the Lingam Tape video has decided to postpone their second meeting which was supposed to take place today. Like always, MalaysiaKini has more on this story.Figures!Let’s not make too much noise about it, folks. We know all along that they are both powerless and toothless to do anything. They were not given any special powers or authority to conduct the investigation with absolute fairness and justice. The whole thing is a big joke and all of my American friends could not believe that we have such stupidity in this so called modern age.How am I supposed to explain this to them?Back to our Honorable Independent Panel, we should know why they have to postpone the meeting anyway. There were two events that happened recently that kept them at bay: PKR’s R. Sivarasa and Sim Tze Tzim boldly told our ACA to go and fly kites and they are still keeping the identit
