It all started in winter of 2002, we were complaining about the lack of secondhand or consignment stores for plus size women in New York City. We wanted to have the same FUN shopping adventures our smaller size sisters were having. Since no one was creating it for us, we decided to do it ourselves. We’re doing it again Saturday September 29, 2007.
The Fat Girl Flea Market is an amazing and cheap shopping frenzy! The fleamarketeers, as we call ourselves, collect clothes in sizes XL to 6X and above. Women from all over the country donate their unworn or gently loved clothing. Many still have tags and all are in great condition.
Last year’s flea market was attended by women visiting from Boston, Philadelphia, and even Las Vegas.
Almost all items are priced below $10 and most are under $5.
Every piece of clothing has been lovingly inspected and only items that are in good condition
Today was the Flea Market.. I must tell you I have Not been in 6 years right after my Back Surgery and I did Not make it far then. The kind of Weird thing about this time is that My Back has been Bad for several days. Just something that struck me as wierd! Well, I snuck away early at 8 am and was at the gate by 8;30. I paid the extra to get in. (I did Choke up a Lung paying that price too. ) Anyway the Vintage section is literally 75% of the Business. Let me start by saying I only went over my budget by $40! Not Bad... I was leaving and found a Lovely lady who has the prettiest Vintage FaBric totes and purses also pillow that are Beautiful. It is Huge and a bit Overwhelming. In my Opinion it is a Bit OVERPRICED. Now I get most of my Jewels from a local Flea Market that could Never Pail in Comparison. You can probably find just about anything Vintage you desire here. Ok, Ok, Love my kids to Death But,,,, I haven't been to the Tuesday morning Local Flea Market for about 6 weeks. I Swear I was starting to have Major Withdrawals. Well, I told the kids Mom is going Tuesday Morning and you are coming and if you don't or raise a Stink your "Grounded for Life". LOL, Emily loves going to see all the Goodies but I knew Elijah would be a Different story. Anyway, it was an Unusually warm and Muggy morning but I got thru it in One hour Flat. I can Spend faster than anyone I know. I must say that in Sixty-Minutes I found some of the BEST Jewels.Also, Mr. Elijah got himself some Great Old Baseball Cards and a Dodger Bobble Head. I actually got to hit the Flea Market this week and wouldn't you know it there weren't many Vendors there. Ughhh, I swear with the Sick kid last week and the Holiday weekend my Scavengering for GOODIES has been limited. I did get some fun old postcards and a bit of jewelry. I also got this great old Hershey's Chocolate tin. I mean old as in 1982? LOL, anyway I also got some cute Vintage Tin Signs that I have almost finished with. I am making them little magnet boards. They are very Cute. I have been working like Crazy on Banners lately. I found a bunch of Old Wine Glass Charms I had that needed a New Home. I added them on to the Banners and they actually came out very fun. Everything has a function. Oh, I almost forgot I couldn't stand the MESS I have been working in so this morning for 3 Hours I organized. Much better and I am more relaxed and don't feel like such a Slob anymore. These are some of my Inspirations that I have picked up over the last Several Months. I just Love all of them Some I got for a Steal... The Toil Clock and the Lamp came from the same Garage Sale and I paid $5 for both. The Wagon Wheels I purchased at a Garage Sale for $1 a piece. The Urns were $1 for both. The Shutters were $5 for both. The Ceramic Tea Jar was $1 little chips and All. I just really Love them all and they Inspire me Everyday. What Inspires You?
I must say I just LOVE Tuesday. We have a Local Flea Market near my house that has just the Greatest things. I drop the kids at school and cant wait to get there. The last two weeks I have gotten just the best things. Besides all of the fantastic finds are the people. It is the Greatest mix of Interesting Personalities. Almost everything I have purchased has a Great story behind it. You see many of the same people and they are very happy to tell you there tales! Anyway, I did very well this week and I am posting my Fun Purchases. Most of which will be Enhanced and added onto and put in my store. Enjoy!
This is one that you can be getting ready for because it will soon be warm enough for outside flea markets or you might be lucky enough to know of some indoor flea markets close to you. For many years before the internet, the place to pawn off old or unused merchandise was the local flea market. Flea marketers would typically be the type of person that was a collector of unique items that would not really sell well in the mall or just carried too small of a margin for most store owners to really care about. The flea market was great, you never knew what you would find, and at times, a bargain was most definitely just around the corner. There even was the odd or better than odd chance that you could be ripped off, so a degree of caution had to be taken with each purchase.Today we have the internet, and the flea market has taken a backseat to the likes of eBay and other auction sites that have popped up all over the world allowing peddlers of this and that to connect up with willing cons
The flea market along Tanglin Mall of Orchard Road was nothing to shout about. But to support this friend of mine (who recently got engaged with a nice blondie boy from California) and decide to join the realm of "tai-tai"ness has decided to clear her wardrobe and letting go some of her "branded" collections - some of which had not been used....in order to make way for the new. Prada, Fendi, Gucci - you name it, she has it..and she's letting 'em go at nearly steal prices (as low as $5 bucks to some of the stuff)
Tina who also designs and sells her own range of watches will also be letting them go at the flea market.
For only one day, Tina and her neice will be at Tanglin Flea Market (in front of Tanglin Shopping Centre), Saturday 2nd Dec from 3pm to 11pm @ Lot Number 14...

I'm so excited over the coming flea market in March(stay tuned, will let you know when and where). I immediately placed orders for new designs (cute little animals) but it's so disappointing to know that the shipment will be delayed as almost all are out of stock! So, I really pray and hope that the new stuff will arrive before the flea market starts so that I can also launch all the #1 cards
