To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases. Local doctors had no cure for his condition. Japanese Fisherman
The Japanese love fish. The fish must be very fresh to please the Japanese palate. For several decades, the fish stock in Japanese waters was steadily decreasing. So, fishing boats had to go further out to sea to fish. Naturally, it took longer to bring the fish back. The fishermen had to use bigger fishing boats to store more fish in order to make the trips worthwhile. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish would not be as fresh. So freezers were installed in the fishing boats to enable fishermen to freeze the fish at sea. But the Japanese consumers were picky; they could taste the difference between fresh fish and frozen fish. As a result the market price for frozen fish was lower than that for fresh fish.Fishing companies made less profit from selling frozen

      Netting A Fisherman
Several years ago during a vacation in Minnesota, we were fishing in a wilderness area. I was with my family, I was home for the summer staying with them for a month. Dad and I liked to fish, Mom and my sister were hiking and enjoying themselves at the lake.Around mid-afternoon I happened to see a tall, well built fisherman in chest high waders walk by where we were sitting. He said hello and kept going upstream, on a path through the heavy underbrush. We were just below a small public campground that bordered the stream where we'd left our car.Curious where this stud might be headed, I told my dad I was going back to the car for something and took off after the stranger, letting Dad watch my gear.I saw him several yards further on, going towards the parking lot of the campground. And second, I only read those of horror, mystery, fantasy and sometimes those involves history. I think it would be nice to have such stories compiled in one book, like all short horror stories in one book :)Anyway, I have read this "The Fisherman’s Daughter" story by J Scott. The story is about a lady who is to marry a prince who she doesn't love. And friendship with someone of different race have sacrificed for her happiness. It's a nice story. And I think teens would love those kinds of stories by the way.

      Fisherman's Pie and Homegrown Mushrooms
I've mentioned before that I am pretty hopeless at gardening, having to buy new fresh herb plants on an almost monthly basis! The only thing I can keep alive is my little bay leaf tree. Of late however though, I have been having more success. I have had a little orange tree since July, an amaryllis that just opened and an orchid that is just gorgeous. Given this stroke of good luck I decided to try my hand at growing mushrooms. Why mushrooms? Well, my kids just love them. My older daughter eats them with everything. It's one of the few vegetables (fungi really, I know) that I can get into them. I've been reading up on mushrooms and had no idea how amazing they were. I stumbled across an article on iContact explaining some of the medical benefits of certain types, which might even be banned soon. Who knew? Click here to read the article.Anyhow, I bought a little kit from Bakker to grow some nice French mushrooms in the hopes that I would end up buying less. I thought it would be

Fisherman describes battle with monster mako shark
DESTIN – Adlee Bruner’s fishing story is about the big one that didn’t get away. Bruner and five friends headed out Saturday morning on a charter boat, hoping to catch some grouper to enter in the annual Destin Fishing Rodeo. Instead, Bruner landed a gargantuan 844.4-pound mako shark, setting a new record for the decades-old tournament. “It was tense,” Bruner, 47, said about the fight to land the 11-foot shark with a mouthful of huge teeth. “I’ve fished for 40 years. I’ve never see one that big.” Source And the funniest thing is the people whining about the death of the shark.. big friggen deal.. a monster PREDATOR shark is dead.. obviously none of them have either listened to the news in the summer about all of the shark attacks (more and more every year), seen someone who has been attacked or been the platter of the day for a shark. It wouldn’t be so bad if the shark made a distinction between humans and their usual food (other fish) and didn’t see each

      German fisherman absolutely sure
A fisherman in Bavaria claims to have seen a two-meter long crocodile approach him while he was fishing from the shore of a small lake near the town of Amberg. Standing up at the sight, the fisherman startled the creature which then turned and quickly swam away, violently splashing the waters behind it with its huge, reptilian tail. Local police are taking the man’s story quite seriously as he says he is “absolutely sure” of having seen the thing. They have begun a thorough investigation of the incident and are now searching for the animal. When interviewed later by reporters the fisherman, still clearly exited and with not a little bit of liquor on his breath, said that in all his years of fishing in Bavaria, this was only the second time he had ever seen a crocodile of this size and color. “The other ones are usually much smaller and pink with little yellow poke dots on their snouts,“ he said. Another local fisherman warned police that this was also the same guy wh

      Fisherman Catches a Scuba Diver!
A 13 year old boy who was fishing in the Netherlands hooked a Dutch scuba diver’s lip.  I am sure that this was a surprise for both the boy and the scuba diver, but at least he caught the lip because there are other places that could have made this situation a lot worse. According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Wim van Huffelen, who was scuba diving in the North Sea, said, “I heard a sound on my head and immediately I felt a jerk on my lip.”  The newspaper also placed a picture in the report that showed the diver with the hook stuck in his mouth. A doctor was able to finally get the hook out of his mouth.  As of right now there have been no other details on this story.  I would like to know what happened in between him getting hooked and getting to shore with the hook still in his mouth.  Did the scuba diver get reeled to the boat or only enough for the boy to see that he didn’t have a fish?  Hopefully they will provide more details later on.

This dish was one of the things which I used to buy as a TV dinner (normally when I've had a hangover for some reason) and have never quite had a the right kind of shallow dish to prepare it in for myself. However, when my friends, Anna and Jose, left to go back to Spain, they gave me the perfect stoneware dish to make something like this, and it was about time I made good use of it.My local Sainsbury's once again let me down on the ingredients front, as it does nearly every time I go there. The selection of fish to choose from was pretty useless, with not a single piece of smoked haddock, which is what I really wanted for this recipe. So, I had to go with some Cod and a couple of 'Crayfish Medleys' (pre-cooked Crayfish, Mussels and Prawns). Not what I necessarily wanted to put in it,

      The Fisherman and the Banker
I recently came across this story on The Anthropik Network, and I think it succinctly illustrates some of the most fundamental distinctions between a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and the cultural "work ethic" that pervades the modern global society. An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, "only a little while."The American then asked why didn't he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, "but what do you do with the rest of your time?"The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar wi

Fisherman catches rare coelacanth, once thought to be extinct, near marine park in Indonesia
An Indonesian fisherman hooked a rare coelacanth, a species once thought as extinct as dinosaurs, and briefly kept the ``living fossil'' alive in a quarantined pool. Justinus Lahama caught the four-foot, 110-pound fish early Saturday off Sulawesi island near Bunaken National Marine Park, which has some of the highest marine biodiversity in the world. The fish died 17 hours later, an extraordinary survival time, marine biologist Lucky Lumingas said Sunday. ``The fish should have died within two hours because this species only lives in deep, cold-sea environment,'' he said. Lumingas works at the local Sam Ratulangi University, which plans to study the carcass. The coelacanth (pronounced SEE-la-kanth) was believed to be extinct for 65 million years until one was found in 1938 off Africa's coast, igniting worldwide interest. Several other specimens have since been discovered, including another off Sulawesi island in 1998. The powerful predator is highly mobile with limb-like fins, and

Papa Gaekwad had been known to use an incredible array of weapons to help him win his many battles. His ability to turn anything into a weapon was what had earned and sealed his reputation. The thing that bothered their neighbours and friends about Aatmaram the most was that he was always completely sober at his meanest.
