You used to know where you stood with festivals. Go to Glastonbury if you want mud and majesty, head to Reading for rough and ready rocking. Chance V for the clean and commercial, or try T in the Park if you can be bothered to trek to Scotland. Now things have changed, with renewed interest in live music heralding a new golden age for festivals. As the season approaches, it appears there are more festivals than fields. Whether it’s independent jaunts in unknown corners of Britain, marauding trips to European hotspots, or corporate events in the capital, there is something for everyone. So why have they got so popular?“Festivals? They’re a place to escape control,” mused Jarvis Cocker at V last summer. “Everyone comes together, and makes something different. It can be brilliant.”

Indians love to celebrate, and there is no end to the list of festivals that are held in honor of the gods, gurus, and historical figures that make this such a colorful destination. Festivals usually coincide with the Indian lunar calendar, with dates only published a year in advance, so check with the local tourism office about exact dates (some may move into another month). India has relatively few national holidays when attractions, government offices, and banks are closed: Republic Day, January 26; Independence Day, August 15; Gandhi's Birthday, October 2; and Christmas. From Here to Awesome is an online community whose sole purpose is to get your movie out into the world. It's been founded by four filmmakers who have experience in self-distribution, and are eager to not only pass on their knowledge, but help us to do the same thing. In this video segment, they touch upon a classic myth of the festival system: getting into a prestigious festival will garner you a distributor and a wad of cash. The reality is just the opposite, with "sweat distribution" the only real way to make your low budget masterpiece pay off. I enthusiastically support this philosophy, and will be sharing FHTA videos with whenever I can.Be sure to check out their site, and get your movie involved!

I normally do a round-up at the end of the week, but there are a lot of great articles I would like to share with everyone now.
A Carnival and a Festival: There are two large financial round-ups going on right now, the Carnival of Personal Finance #126 hosted by Frugal Trader from Million Dollar Journey, and the Festival of Frugality #100 hosted by Dawn from Frugal For Life. Each of these has a great selection of informative and entertaining money related articles. I submitted my recent article 25 Ways I Save Money. Frugal Trader selected my article as one of his Editor’s Choice picks. Thanks, FT!
Cars, cars, cars! Right now the members of the M-Network (a group of financial bloggers) are currently writing articles related to cars and car ownership. They have also invited some of their blogging friends to join n the fun, so I took them up on their offer.
Here is a full list of the articles so far (M) = M-Network member:

Certain things are these days not easy to find anymore in China itself. there are many reasons for this but that alone would be a whole website. I prefer to talk about something I was involved with in Malaysia and which was as much Chinese as you can imagine: a Taoist festival dedicated to the Nine Emperor Gods.
This nine day festival includes many extraordinary moments. I have been sorting out my photos, video's and notes. Here you can read more about the festival:
Bicycling to Penang and visiting the festival is a page I wrote for the bicycle adventures website. A much more

Fall festivals are in full swing, and despite a lack of sleep last night because of Zane's restlessness, we decided to hit a couple up today. First was the Hawaiian Isle & Outrigger Canoe Regatta at Lake Las Vegas Resort. Yesterday was beautiful and today was cold and windy, so it was not as enjoyable as it could have been. But we did get to indulge in some Hawaiian BBQ and Malasada. Zane thought the dozens of large carp near the boat docks were cool. After, we headed to the District at Green Valley Ranch for their Fall Arts Festival. It was kind of a bust because we hit it near the end of the last day. They ran out of pumpkins, so Zane didn't get to decorate one. We only stayed long enough for Zane to enjoy the maze made of Hay.Below are pictures from today. Next weekend we're looking forward to the Inspirada Fall Festival and Howl at the Moon Dog Walk. On Halloween we'll be back at the District for their Ghost Walk event.By the way...it pisses me off that America is so politic
