      Photo from Farmer's Market
Arkansas Family Fun made a trek to the Farmer's Market today and loved it. We bought fresh squash, okra, onions and strawberries for a wonderful Saturday night dinner (we plan to fry the first three and dip the strawberries in chocolate). We were also thrilled to learn that their were plenty of fun activies for kids. Face painting, hula hoops, air brush tattoos (which last 2 weeks - eek!) and,

Children are usually treated in infancy with casts or braces that gradually bring the feet into correct alignment. Is it the time of the Farmer?
Farming is fast becoming a profitable way in which small acreage owners are making big money on small amounts of investments. With the current food shortage, increased cost of fuel, and ethanol growth, many farms look like they are delivering gold instead of crops. Farmers are earning profits more then some business executives. These farm profits come as a mixed bag that can be both good and bad.Corn may be selling for 300% or more then it was a decade ago while the costs may have risen only 50%. As the price of corn increases the cost of alternative crops such as wheat are likely to rise as well. More so now then any time in history, farmers are able to make profits on both small and big farms. The growing trend is so lucrative that some suburbanites are turning their few plots of acreage

Everyday I am fortunate to fall on some really great music. There is so much talent out there and I defintely think this 7 piece has got a lot of guts, a great presence, and some seriously thorough instrumentation all over their tracks. As you can tell by the photo above at one of their shows, they've got some serious wind, strings and the traditional indie rock tools. After hearing the album I can say their song from track to track are really different, well pieced, and some yelling and singing. They got some interesting influences holding them up, with lots of energy. They've got a new album that recently dropped called Rewiring The Electric Forest via Paper Garden Records. Green grass, green trees, and fresh produce.I am a sucker for the little farm markets all over the suburbs that feature home-grown fruits and veggies. There is just something about fruit and vegetables that are "locally grown". It tastes different. And then there's the homemade baked goods, but let's not go there. I haven't had breakfast yet.David has a thing for local blueberries. This goes waaaaay back to his toddler years. He knows when you are trying to "trick him". Cows, Farmer’s Daughters Get $267 Million Broadband Boost [PCs]
If your Internet surfing gets cut constantly because a cow kicked over a lantern and burned down the barn or worse-because you use DSL, help could be on the way. Denver-based Open Range Communications is hoping to eliminate rural DSL Internet surfing with a substantial $267 million loan it received from the Department of Agriculture. The loan is part of the USDA's Rural Development Broadband Loan and Loan Guarantee Program, and will provide broadband service in 518 rural areas in 17 states, including Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas and Wisconsin. This is great news and a long time coming for the rural communities of the US because, if anything, they've consistently shown a great thirst for knowledge, science and the unknown. I am allowed to go wherever I wish on farm land.' So the old farmer went about his chores. Later, he heard loud screams and saw the Department of Highways employee running for the fence and close behind was the farmer's prize bull. The bull was madder than a nest full of hornets and the bull was gaining on the employee at every step. The old farmer called out, 'Show him your card, smartass!!'

Pig Farmer Serial Killer has been Found Guilty
A pig farmer has been found guilty of six counts of second degree murder, and has been said to be Canada’s worst serial killer. This guilty verdict mandates a sentence of life in prison. This verdict only ended six out of 26 murder charges that Robert ‘Willie’ Pickton is going to face. Pickton supposedly killed 26 women, most of them being drug addicts and prostitutes from the Vancouver neighborhood. The remains of these women were found outside Vancouver on Robert Pickton’s farm. While the defense acknowledged this, they denied that Pickton was responsible for the deaths. An undercover police officer was able to get into Pickton’s prison cell and gain his trust, which revealed more incriminating evidence against Pickton. He told the officer that he wanted to kill one more woman to make it an even 50, then he was going to take a break before killing 25 more. So it seems as though he has killed more than the 26 he is being tried for. The most sickenin

      Selling at Farmer's Markets
By: Elmo Kandel Usually the main motivation for planting a fruit tree is just the joy of maintaining a tree and eating the delicious fruit that comes from it. However, in my personal experience it is possible to go on a quite lucrative venture with fruit trees by operating a fruit stand or participating in a farmer’s market. When I moved to Florida, I was slightly depressed at the fact that I had just left behind years and years of hard work to get my lawn to the point it was. However, I was able to healthily channel this depression into the desire to get a new and more beautiful garden and lawn setup going. The house I moved into was nice, but the previous owner obviously had no gardening prowess. The lawn was barren of any features besides grass. Lots and lots of grass.I decided that since I was now in a new climate that I had never experienced before, I would grow some trees that I didn’t have the opportunity to grow before. I decided to do the truly Floridian thing to do, and ge

      A Farmer’s Type of Energy
The best way to get into farming is harvesting naturally and with social responsibility. No other than the crop growers and farmers will surely lead the way as they are more inclined to turn to natural generating energy sources such as wind energy to carry out their living. In most cases, farmers would want rampant and fast means of trying to grow their crops. But in today’s age, cost is something to consider alongside the growing concern for sufficient supply of energy to support their profession. Ink and Acrylic Sketches—new art supplies and fruit from the Farmer’s Market
I love to play in my sketchbook. I’ve had so many shows lately that the pressure has been on to turn out finished pieces, but sometimes I think this is how I like to spend my time the most. It enables me to test drive ideas, relax, and enjoy the “doing” of art. The pears in the shallow bowl are ink sketches, with acrylic washes laid over while the ink was too wet. I get impatient. Below the pears are my new bottle of Sennelier Walnut Ink, and a little inkwell I got in the gift shop at Sturbridge Village. It’s made there in the pottery shop, and it works really well! The apple and pear on the facing page are from the Brewster Farmer’s Market. They are painted in Golden Fluid Acrylics, with no preliminary drawing; I just went in straight with paint—always my favorite painting method! For the pear, I experimented with the Irridescent Gold Deep, using it to mix my greens, and with ochre. The shimmer is quite subtle when combined with the other colors. W

Thursday Thirteen - Last will & testament of a farmer
I LEAVE: To my wife: My overdraft at the bank. Maybe she can explain it. To my son: Equity on my car. Now he will have to go to work to meet the payments. To my banker: My soul. He has the mortgage on it anyway. To my neighbour: My clown suit. He will need it if he continues to farm as he has in the past. To the farm credit corporation: My unpaid bills. They took some real chances on me. I want to do something for them. To the junk man: All my machinery. He's had his eyes on it for years. To my undertaker: A special request. I want six implement dealers and six fertilizer dealers for pallbearers. They are used to carrying me. To the weatherman: Rain, hail and snow for the funeral please. No sense in having good weather now. To the grave digger: Don't bother. The hole I'm in now should be big enough. And lastly To the monument maker: Set up a jig for the epitaph. "Here lies a farmer who has now properly assumed all of his obligations."

      Lawyer vs Farmer
A big-city lawyer was representing the railroad in a lawsuit filed by an old rancher. The rancher's prize bull was missing from the section through which the railroad passed. The rancher only wanted to be paid the fair value of the bull. The case was scheduled to be tried before the justice of the peace in the back room of the general store. The attorney for the railroad immediately cornered the rancher and tried to get him to settle out of court. The lawyer did his best selling job, and finally the rancher agreed to take half of what he was asking. After the rancher had signed the release and took the check, the young lawyer couldn't resist gloating a little over his success, telling the rancher, "You know, I hate to tell you this, old man, but I put one over on you in there. I couldn't have won the case. The engineer was asleep and the fireman was in the caboose when the train went through your ranch that morning. I didn't have one witness to put on the stand. I bluffed you!"The old

Looking for love in all the wrong places... But it has to be said: If you fall for something like this, you only have yourself to blame. Going to Mali to meet an internet bride and collect a dowry of gold bars worth £40,000...?? What the hell was this guy thinking? A lonely Australian farmer was held hostage in Mali for 12 days in an internet bride scam that almost cost him his life. Des Gregor, 56, had travelled to Mali to meet his supposed bride, Natacha, whom he had met on the internet, and collect a dowry of gold bars worth £40,000. But when he arrived, the wheat and sheep farmer was kidnapped by a gang of armed bandits who bound him, beat him with a machete and stole his cash and credit cards. The men also threatened to hack Gregor's limbs off with a machete unless he paid them a £40,000 ransom. The scam was stopped when Australian and Malian police, alerted by Gregor's family in Australia, tricked the kidnappers into taking Gregor to the Canadian Embassy to c

6×6″, Golden Acrylics on sealed, primed hardboard $100 via PayPal, $5 shipping within US (email me for international rates) I went to the Brewster Farmer’s Market on Wednesday and bought a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers and some early Macintosh apples. I picked out a few flowers tonight to put in this tiny vase, which I’ve always wanted to paint, but somehow hasn’t yet made it into a painting. I set up the still life in my studio and painted it from life. Now I’ll get to eat the apple and enjoy the flowers for the next few days. My palette for this painting was Ultramarine blue, Hansa yellow, Alizarin Crimson hue, Yellow ochre, Titanium white. I just got back from my trip to Golden Artist Colors headquarters earlier today. What a wonderful experience it was to go there! I picked the brains of some of the very knowledgeable staff members regarding sealing supports and isolation coats before varnishing. I always seal my boards with GAC100; they veri

Chinese Farmer Grows Robots, Takes Them to Town (Literally)
This is soooo cool. I love my robots, and when a guy who has probably never even owned a TV let alone seen one of the Short Circuits goes and designs human-like robots from scavenged parts, well they get an a+ and a gold star for the day. The most amazing thing is that he has no formal training, and just takes all the parts from thrown away "junk."The rickshaw at the end is unbelievable, although it kinda looks like a bumpy ride. Worthy sacrifice for science, though.

I got all the way to the car before a store employee came running out after me, carrying the full bag of corn I had left in the cart.

Filthy PigsA farmer bought some breeding pigs, but after several weeks, not one was pregnant. He called the vet for help. "Why don't you try artificial insemination" said the vet. The farmer didn't have an inkling of what artificial insemination was, but, not wanting to appear ignorant, he said, "Okay, Doc, but how will I know when the pigs are pregnant?" "Easy. When they lie down and wallow in the mud." The farmer hung up and came to the conclusion that artificial insemination must mean that he has to impregnate those pigs himself. So he loaded them onto his truck, drove them out into the woods, had sex with each of them, brought them back to the farm, and then went to bed. The next morning he woke up and checked the pigs. Since they were all still standing around, he concluded that his first attempt didn't take, so he loaded them into the truck again, drove them into the woods, had sex with each of them, brought them back to the farm, and went to bed. Food Recall and Farmer's Market
UGH....yet another food recall. The culprit this time is ground beef.United Food Group has recalled 75,000 pounds of ground beef dueto possible E. coli contamination. All the beef appears to be locatedin Albertson's stores in Colorado. Backyard grillers in the RockyMountain state beware! I am not a tree hugger, or green, or someenvironmentalist, but these food scares in the last year or twohave gotten out of hand. I am not saying I am going organic ornatural, but I have noticed myself being more careful with mypicks at the grocery store lately. I have even decided to hit thisnew local farmer's market that is going to run every Wednesdayduring the summer, might be interesting. There is a big farmer'smarket downtown every Saturday during the summer months, but it only runs in the mornings, so no chance of me getting tothat one! But this new Wednesday one will run late afternoon, early evening - perfect!

The Astronaut Farmer 2006DVDSCR by GLORiOUS
From the time he was a child, Charles Farmer had only one goal: to be an astronaut. Earning his degree in aerospace engineering and joining the Air Force as a pilot, Farmer was a natural for NASA’s astronaut training program and was well on his way when a family situation forced him to drop out. But Farmer was not a man to let anything stand in the way of a dream. He spent the next decade and every cent he had building his own rocket in a barn on his ranch in Story, Texas, working toward the day when he could triumphantly launch it into space. By himself. Sharing his vision are his wife Audie and their children–daughters Sunshine and Stanley, and 15-year-old Shepard, already a budding engineer and eager to serve as “mission control” on the big day. Even Audie’s father Hal, on hand to lend moral support, can see how his son-in-law’s unwavering commitment has inspired the family with a common dream. On the eve of the long-anticipated launch, an unexp

Billy Bob Thornton, Virginia Madsen interviewed in Chicago on ‘The Astronaut Farmer’
CHICAGO – “I have a lot of nervous energy in my head. I always have to be working on something,” said actor – and now entrepreneur – Billy Bob Thornton in a Chicago interview with Adam Fendelman.Despite the mental projection of a guy who’s rough around the edges from earlier film work, Thornton’s unsuspecting lead role as Charles Farmer in “The Astronaut Farmer” tells a decidedly different story: one about the true tenets of American entrepreneurism and family.Thornton’s taxing road to his dream – building and launching the first civilian rocket into space – is engrained with the uncanny ups and downs reminiscent to entrepreneurs and Internet start-ups.Before reveling in all the rewards of his final pursuit, Farmer must first risk all that is sacred.Entrepreneurs are very familiar with the sometimes genius yet sometimes “hypomanic” compulsion required to trek to the moon – nearly literally in Farmer’s case – and they stop at nothing to get there.
