For the third time in four years, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of legal rights for the Guantanamo detainees, this time specifying absolutely that they have the right to challenge their imprisonment in U.S. courts. We can only hope that this time the Bush administration honors the rule of law and allows [...]

If one were to watch the TV commercials which are running across the channels, 'oranges' and 'fairness' seem to hogging the prime time. The interest in orange was triggered by the high decibel launch of the Minute Maid by Coke, and Pepsi followed it up with Tropicana twister. Now even the summer ads for fanata also revolve around the orange blast. This is interesting as in India it is Manago which is the King ,the most preferred flavor when it comes to juices...The second common theme which is running across most of the cosmetic ads 'Fairness' either the added advantage of fairness in the usual creams, face wash or new launches addressing the fairness segment. This segment has seen a lot of activity even in the men's segment, the latest entrant being Nivea fairness for men. In women's cosm
Some conservatives are beginning to warn of the assault on the Constitution that can be expected if the Democrats consolidate power with the next election. They are all too right, but few of those that matter will care, since conservative credibility has been blown to smithereens by the reign of George Bush—what with the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretapping, the War Commissions Act, suspension of habeas corpus, secret prisons and such. As much as I would like to permanently let the hot air out of the Oxycontin Dough Boy and never again have to hear the shrill noise of Ann Coulter, shutting them down, in any manner other than the acquirement of a brain by the public, would be exponentially worse. But, according to a number of conservatives, that is precisely what the liberal plan is. One o
I think the policemen who blocked, stopped and intimidated us should not be the only people to blame about the incident on which our basic right to freely assemble and travel without any harassment were infringed. On one instance in the encounter in Molino Road where we were stopped for almost an hour, one young police officer named Ramos was a graduate of our institution Batch '94. He quipped as we negotiate with them in a low voice: "Pasensya na po talaga mam, wala po akong magawa kasi utos sa taas eh." (I apologize, I am just obeying orders from superiors)One of senior policemen in Aguinaldo Hi-way said this as we were let go of our way after more than 20 minutes: "Pakisabi pasensya na lang po kay Dean Esmilla" (Please express my apologies to Dean Esmilla). Dean Esmilla is the former dea

Brand : FaireverCompany : CavinkareAgency : Fountainhead/OrchardBrand Analysis Count : 283Fairever is a challenger brand. It was the first brand to challenge the market leader Fair & Lovely. This brand was once touted by the media as the DAVID who fights against the Goliath.Fairever was launched in 1998. Initially launched in South India, this brand went national a year after. It was the time when Fair & Lovely ( FAL) was ruling the Indian fairness cream market. The phenomenal success of FAL and the marketing might of HLL scared off many potential rivals. It was interesting to note that ever since its launch FAL never faced any competition from any players till Cavinkare decided to take on the behemoth.Unlike many challenger brands from small companies, Fairever was never a price warrior. At one point of time Fairever was expensive than FAL. The courage of this small brand to standup and challenge a market leader with clear non price positioning makes Fairever a special brand.F
Presented hereunder are certain points to consider on the prospect of restricting the migration of doctors, as revealed in a Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) news item posted to the Internet, from which I quote, as follows:"DoH: Gov’t can stop doctors from leaving; it is the lawBy Nikko DizonInquirer08/03/2007 http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/news/view_article.php?article_id=80319"MANILA, Philippines — Filipino doctors would be barred from migrating and working abroad to avert a possible shortage of medical practitioners, if Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had his way."You don't expect Indians and Cambodians to treat Filipinos, Duque Thursday told reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with provincial governors and his counterpart in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao....“While we’re out there treating other people, the irony is we don’t have anyone to treat our own people. Of course, the authorities will not allow it. Political leaders will not allow that.
Durbin said the government has the right to regulate talk radio, because the airwaves belong to the American people.
Does that statement make any sense to you? The airways belong to the people, so we must regulate it? If the airways belong to the people, shouldn’t the government stay away? I think so, but I am not smart enough to make my own decisions, so the government will tell me what to listen to.
The free market has determined that talk radio should be dominated by conservative talk. Conservative talk is what makes money, so conservative talk is what many stations offer. There is NPR and Air America trying to promote liberal talk, but liberal talk has not been successful so now the Democrats want to force it on the American people. The liberals already own all the other outlets of the media, but it is noy good enough for them, they need to conquer talk radio also. They want to eliminate opposing views instead of debating them.
He (Durbin) challenged Coleman’s fai
In an act of pure arrogance and stupidity, Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule that gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but allows government control of political content as well. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and other Republicans have been attempting to mirror the actions of Mike Pence (R-IN). Pence effectively thwarted the reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine in the House of Representatives. We should all be proud to have politicians working for the American people as diligently at him. Sadly, however, when Coleman (R-Minn.), tried to bring up his amendment Friday to a defense authorization bill, Democrat Senator Carl Levin objected. More frightening, Senator Levin is not the only communist who supports the Fairness Doctrine. For example, Senator John Kerry, Senator Dick Durbin, and Dianne Feinstein supp
In an effort to combat reimplementation of the archaic “Fairness Doctrine,” Congressman Mike Pence, together with Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and RSC Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) introduced an amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2829) yesterday. Thankfully the Amendment passed 309-115. The next question is, “Who are the 115 Stalinists?” Here is what Mike Pence’s Amendment will do: It will prohibit funds in the Bill from being used by the Federal Communications Commission to impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. This is no small feat. It is a monumental victory for free speech and Pence should be commended for protecting the 1st Amendment. Moreover, the fear of the “Fairness Doctrine” is certainly warranted. It is one of the most dangerous laws ever conceived over the last hundred years. It gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but it would allow government control of politica
"All men are not created equal. It is the purpose of the Government to make them so." Harrison Bergeron – Kurt Vonnegut Jr, 1961 Any news or daily information of worth loses the interest of the media by day two, hence the need to reach for documents from ancient history which reveal from the archive of The Heritage Foundation, October 29, 1993, “Why the Fairness Doctrine is Anything But Fair.” FAIR on the other hand Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting has an article, er opinion piece “The Fairness Doctrine, How we lost it and why we need it back,” from early 2005 arguing the opposite of The Heritage Foundation. In an official and very legal opening FAIR quotes from the 1969 U.S. Supreme Court decision: “A license permits broadcasting, but the licensee has no constitutional right to be the one who holds the license or to monopolize a...frequency to the exclusion of his fellow citizens. There is nothing in the First Amendment which prevents the Government from re
Libs Want Regulation On The Only MediumThey Don't ControlFor years now, conservative talk radio has been beating liberal talk like a drum. The left has tried with Mario Cuomo and others such as the scandalous and quite boring Air America. Every single attempt has been an utter failure in spite of huge hype and mega bucks. In the meantime, Rush Limbaugh has flourished and Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin have consistently high ratings. WABC radio in New York City is the most listened to station in the nation and runs a 100% conservative lineup. Note this is in a city that is deeply blue. There's a new push on by the Democrats to re-institute the Fairness Doctrine , a regulation that would require stations to air equal content from both left and right. For instance, say a radio station airs three hours of Laura Ingraham, under the Fairness Doctrine, they would be required to air three hours of some liberal drivel such as Randi Rhodes or Al Franken. The problem is simply that l
What will our leaders in Washington think of next? We all know they’re up there in Washington, alternating between adrenalin and Zen, zooming around to meetings and trying to think of good things to do for all U.S. citizens.
One of those good things relates to an issue many politicians get a little squeamish over. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. And so did Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.).
I read the transcript of the two senators’ remarks at the Fox News Web site. Lott had already said, earlier this week, “Talk radio is running America.” He followed that statement with, “We have to deal with that problem.” Wallace quizzed Lott about those statements.
Lott dodged the quiz. He explained he’d been on a radio program and tried to explain the proposed immigration bill. It’s a complicated bill. “A lot of moving parts.” And it’s hard to get that across on talk radio—“It’s not that they’re maliciously trying to, you
The Fairness Doctrine is receiving new life these days even from the likes of a Trent Lott who recently said that Talk Radio needs to be looked into. The Fairness Doctrine is a political doctrine with the usual emotional name that implies something in the realm of Talk Radio is not fair. Emotion does not belong in the debate but makes its way into it when one needs to fight logic. Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and others are railing against the “doctrine” as a tool to silence debate and the free marketplace, which it is when one stops to think about it and one does not have to stop and think about it long to come to that conclusion. Radio stations are in the business for money and it falls that if something doesn’t make money through ad revenue that something won’t remain on the air long. Yesterday Hannity made remarks about being called a “shill for the Republican party,” and pointed out that when he doesn’t agree or think something is bad for Conservatism he speak

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez doesn't like his country's media coverage on him, so he has put rules into affect that he feels are fair.Fred Thompson, the presidential non-candidate upon the fence, takes a moment to compare the business as usual actions of a tyrant with that of the Democrat party and its resurrection of the Fairness Doctrine. From National Review Online, Fred Thompson's "Radio Free Congress:""I had planned on talking a bit today about Venezuela. The president there doesn’t like the way his media is covering him, so he’s doing away with the free press. He’s established rules on what he thinks is fair, and he’s denying licenses to television and radio stations that don’t play by government rules.I can’t criticize him now, though. After all, how would it seem for me to complain about another country, when our own congressional leadership is trying to put the same sort of rules in place here? To do so, they’re pulling the Fairness Doctrine out of the dust
Knowing that they cannot compete on the merits of their ideas, Democrats love to try to silence the competition. Why is it that it is the Republicans that always get accused of censorship? Rush Limbaugh explains it this way:
Bring it on! Pelosi and the Democrats are resurrecting The Fairness Doctrine to shut up Rush. The left saw their liberal radio network go down in flames, but they won't accept that they cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas. No, they're going to require local radio stations to "balance" Rush's commentary, knowing it will create hassles so thick that radio stations will drop the show. "It's a pure Stalinist tactic," Rush says. "Elected officials of government are attempting to deny private citizens access to the microphone." The focus of Democrats is to make war on Rush, not Al-Qaeda.
It's not just Rush, though, it's a host of conservative radio hosts. Of course, Rush is the biggest name, but there are others. Since there ar
As you might have read, I tend to rant and splutter incomprehensibly until I foam at the mouth when it comes to the ridiculousness of fairness creams. After seeing this commercial I can't help but snicker. I'm glad the Indian companies that make fairness creams view men and women as equal opportunity prey. It's like a starved tiger pouncing on a deer. The tiger doesn't care if the deer is male or female, and neither do the makers of fairness creams. Ooh! That was vicious.
I've heard it proposed and my policy is to take every argument seriously, but how does one defend this? Here's what I've come up with so far:
1. People who listen to AM radio but have never attended college, read a newspaper, or watched television might get the impression that everybody's conservative.
2. ummm....I don't know. I'm all tapped out. Can anybody help?

The Fairness Doctrine is not fair at all. It is only a way to get Liberal ideas on the airwaves, because they ca not hack it themselves. This in no way will be fair for anybody. It will only stiffle...
The Saskatchewan NDP government is running a new ad campaign to get the Harper Conservative New Government of Canada ™ to imagine what the province would be like if it were given the same money sharing deal as other provinces. In the Canadian Constitution, provinces are entitled to 100% of their resource revenue. Yet for some unexplained reason, Sask has that money count against it in transfer payments. The result is my province loses about $800 million. That’s a lot of fairness lost.
Last year I wrote about the nonsense the SK NDP govt’ had going with the Raise a Flag for Fairness campaign before the federal NDP helped to trigger a federal election. The website was shown to be a bumbling fraud, which was stupid because it is dirt simple to make it either work properly, or be a simple information repository [no pun intended] with no Web 2.0 interactive features.

Well, I am going to put off discussion of HR1 yet again. The Democrats are at it again. They are incensed at the success of conservative talk radio. They blame it (rightly so) for all the ills that have befallen them since the days of Jimmy Carter. Now that they are in power, they are marching at warp speed to stifle free speech under the guise of "FAIRNESS". It seems that the nasty old radio stations only present the "conservative" side of the issues. Well, yes. And their point is? They feel this is wrong. "Progressives" (translation: liberals, leftists, etc) are being denied the chance to prattle on about their position on any given issue. Well, actually this is not entirely correct. Liberals don't discuss issues. They rant and throw temper tantrums and sling mud. Now they want to pass legislation that will codify the mistakes of the past. The FCC enforced a fairness doctrine until President Reagan saw the light and revoked the joke. From that point on talk radio took a decidedly co
As TTAC revs up its engine and stares down the ramp at the shark tank-- just kidding. I have every faith that the TTAC team can maintain this e-brand's identity and integrity ad infinitum. And beyond! Well, at least until we start making some real money. And then after that (relax, we're good, it's been a long week). That's not to say we won't make some missteps along the way. We won't. I mean, we will. Today, I published two blogs posts that I later removed. The first described the plight of a Dodge Charger owner whose lights went all screwy when it rained. While the dealer's disinterest was the point of the piece, commentators rightly pointed-out that such difficulties afflict buyers of other brands. Our focus on the Dodge Boys was unfair. The second post cove
