Conservationists say Indonesian orangutans face extinction
JAKARTA, Indonesia — The world’s largest population of wild orangutans on Indonesia’s Borneo island faces extinction within three years due to rapidly expanding oil palm plantations, a conservationist group said Wednesday. A report by the Center for Orangutan Protection says just 20,000 of the endangered primates remain in the tropical jungle of Central Kalimantan, down from [...]

      Tropics insects 'face extinction'
Many tropical insects face extinction by the end of this century unless they adapt to the rising global temperatures predicted, US scientists have said.Researchers led by the University of Washington said insects in the tropics were much more sensitive to temperature changes than those elsewhere. In contrast, higher latitudes could experience an insect population boom. The scientists said changes in insect numbers could have secondary effects on plant pollination and food supplies. In the research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the US scientists studied how temperature changes between 1950 and 2000 had affected 38 species of insects. In the tropics, many species appear to be living at or near their thermal optimum, a temperature that lets them thriveJoshua Tewks

      Movie Review: Resident Evil Extinction
Having never been a fan of the game franchise (I think they're rather stupid myself, but that's because I like FPS games instead), I have always loved the film adaptations. Why? Because I love zombie movies, even ones like 28 Days Later where the "zombies" aren't really zombies (and actually all those Romero incarnations aren't truly zombie movies either--look it up...try Haiti). Regardless of what you might think about the games, the first Resident Evil flick was darn good. It managed to terrify the crap out of us with those zombie dogs and the truly frightening zombified people. We were able to forgive the makers for the poor CGI too, since those weird mutation things were sort of bad, but didn't take up the screen much. Then came Resident Evil 2 and those of us who liked the first m

Humans Came Close to Extinction, Study Says
An extensive genetic study by researchers at Stanford University suggests that human beings nearly became extinct about 70,000 years ago, apparently because of a drought. The population may have dropped to as low as 2,000 individuals.Researcher Spencer Wells calls the finding "truly an epic drama, written in our DNA." Human beings emerged in Africa about 200,000 years ago with "mitochondrial Eve," the mother of all humanity, and spread to other places 60,000 years ago.Little has been known about the intervening 140,000 years, but the new study suggests that severe environmental conditions between 135,000 and 90,000 years ago forced people into tiny, isolated groups. The worldwide human population today is 6.6 billion. Source: news.yahoo.com

Christian Assyrians Face Extinction in Northern Iraq
Thousands of Christians fleeing persecution in other parts of Iraq have returned since 2004 to ancestral lands in the Nineveh Plain, just north and east of Mosul. While they have escaped the Islamic militias who slaughtered family members and burned down their houses and churches in Baghdad and Mosul, now they face a new battle. Today's enemies are poverty, joblessness, and despair.Jamal Dinha, mayor of Bartella, a large Christian village east of Mosul, painted a dire picture of the life these persecuted Christians now face in this Kurdish-controlled safe haven."The situation in our region is critical. Standards, Trademarks And Online Marketing – Are We In Threat Of Extinction?:
Two incidents making the rounds of search engine optimization circles currently have search engine experts and online marketing professionals contemplating this question. The first instance I’m referring to is the stand the U.K. is taking against unfair sales and marketing practices. Conscientious consumers would breathe a sigh of relief but then what kind of Internet marketing and advertising would they be exposed to?Because as it happens in most cases to do with the web, blogs too are included in this law which states it a crime to promote a product on a blog in the U.K. Talk about ringing the death knell of online marketing and website promotion in the U.K.The second incident that got me perplexed was the struggle by one Jason Gambert, an Internet marketer, to trademark the term SEO. Black Robin: Back from the Brink of Extinction
This week no apologies for bringing you a success story which although enacted through the 1970s and 1980s still manages to amaze and awe. I'm talking about the rescue of the black robin from the brink of extinction by the NZ Wildlife Service team led by Don Merton. The still images come from the NHNZ classic film Black Robin a Chatham Island Story (1990) - itself a compilation of three documentaries, Black Robin, Seven Black Robins and The Robin's Return which were made during those decades and which were the founding films upon which the formation of NHNZ (formerly TVNZ's Natural History Unit) was based."When Europeans first arrived on the Chatham Islands the black robin (Petroica traversi) was relatively widespread. But in the all too familiar pattern, its numbers dwindled as European

      One-Kopek Coin Facing Extinction
The country’s state-owned mint is considering abolishing the one-kopek coin in a bid to save on production costs, a senior official said.Arkady Trachuk, the head of Goznak, the government agency that produces banknotes and coins, said in an interview with Izvestia last week that it was looking at ways to produce coins more cheaply, given the recent spike in metal prices, in response to a request from the Central Bank.“We could make the decision to round up prices to 10 kopeks,” he said, noting that there were a number of other proposals on the table, including the use of cheaper metals. “Where are kopeks [still] required here?”Goznak will send its proposals to the Central Bank within two months, Trachuk said. The agency has, however, been slow to adopt this measure, chiefly becaus

ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT: Plotting the extinction of a much needed federal law
It is not a generalization or spin that some conservatives and republicans want to quash the Endangered Species Act or limit its use to flagship species like Bald Eagles or Blue Whales. The problem is that people arguing either of these points do not understand basic principles of ecology or how the environment works. Species depend on each other for survival in the web of life. A seemingly insignificant species like an insect may be absolute necessary for the survival of a flagship species or plant that can cure current maladies or those not yet named. All species matter. From Mother Earth News, KS: "What they did," says Snape, "was attach a completely unrelated rider onto a $5 billion defense spending bill. This technique is one that they have become quite masterful at. They stick all th

This action-packed horror film is set in the Nevada desert and filled with intense special effects and more zombie terror! Las Vegas means fun in the sun. Well, at least the sun is still there. Except for a few rusting landmarks, it looks pretty much like the rest of the desert - or the whole country, for that matter. The crowds are now flesh-eating zombies: the mass undead, the oozing, terrifying sludge of what remains. Fish Farming May Drive Wild Salmon to Extinction
On the west coast of Canada, fish parasites from salmon farms are driving wild salmon to extinction. The wild fish could be gone in four years. Tiny parasites called sea lice can infest the skin of adult salmon and can kill juvenile salmon. But juveniles rarely encounter lice naturally in the wild, as the parasites generally stay out at sea with adult fish, while the juveniles hug the coast. But salmon farms in coastal waters swarm with sea lice, exposing juvenile wild salmon to danger. Sea lice have likely already killed more than 80 percent of the salmon in the area.

Extinction is the equivalent of eternal damnation for animals
It’s official. Today the Baiji Yangtze freshwater dolphin is declared extinct. This is particularly sad because this dolphin is the first animal declared extinct because of human infringement. I am pretty sure since most people think that animals don’t go to heaven or hell, that the closest thing to a literal eternal damnation for animals is extinction. Follow me - Animals are completely instinctual. Their survival, procreation, and lives all center around continuing their existence. That is the instinctual existence of an animal. Every part of the evolution of a creature works for existance, so by taking that away from them, we have eternally damned them. This comes on the heels of a conference that shows China and the US as leaders in world pollutants and not as commited as the rest of the world to leaving smaller footprints. The United States refuses to make tighter environmental laws even though we are suppose to be some sort of ‘city on a hill’, or someth

      2012: The Extinction Of Humanity?
By: Style of Conscience  Everyone hears about the different prophecies on how humanity will end. From the Bible predictions of the rapture and the Antichrist, to Nostradamus’s prediction of the Planet Comet, people hear theories and see evidence of our civilization coming to an end. However, the most striking of these prophecies lies in the predictions of an ancient, but highly sophisticated Mayan calender. The deciphering and understanding of the calender is whole other story in it’s own, so I’ll get straight to the point… The Mayan calender actually is a combination of 3 calenders. The religious calender, the solar calender, and the Long Count. For the sake of this discussion, i wont get into detail about the whole calender and just stick to the Long Count. The Long Count can record any day in history because it is supposedly the measure of days from the beginning of humanity to the end. The number system used for the Long Count is completely different than

Baggage Handlers: A Species on the Brink of Extinction?
Sick of turning up at LAX, only to find your luggage has been sent to JFK? We hear you. And so too does IBM. That’s why the computer company long known as Big Blue has come out with a new robotic baggage handling system that, it says, will cut down on the amount of lost baggage being transferred between connecting flights, as well as improve connection times and cut down on operating costs. Of course, an added benefit that IBM doesn’t mention is, robots don’t go through your underwear and steal your digital camera. At least, not yet. Under the new system, each piece of luggage is tagged with an RFID chip – a miniscule computer chip that holds a tracking number. Wal-Mart already uses them in keeping track of their deliveries (rip a box of $4 Made-in-China sandwich grills apart and, eventually, you’ll find the little guy), and IBM and Vanderlande Industries see the new tracking technology as the perfect way for their robots to send your luggage to the destination it’s suppose

Climate Change Will Lead to Extinction
Climate change is something that has drawn various concerns all over the world and with this new discovery based on studies, it is apparent that people will understand that even human existence may soon be imperiled along with plant and animal life. Just think of it. How can anyone live on a planet that provides intolerable climates? Even if people would be able to adjust at times, there will come a point where they have to adjust accordingly and precisely but this cannot be a standard practice. We all know the little contributions we can make to avoid this tragedy from occurring. However, the problem lies in the fact that the effort requires a little bit more. This only goes to show that the world still has a lot of ground to cover and combat the climate change syndrome that is evident today.
VOTO FINALE: 8/10.

SandPiper Bird Near Extinction in Russia
The spoon-billed bird is to be put on the endangered list as the numbers are dwindling for this most exotic and beautiful bird. Cause of the low numbers for the Sandpiper Bird are the decline in feeding sites in their migration route from Russia to Asia, which they trek for the winter. Christoph Zöckler, international coordinator of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper Action Plan states, “they are just running out of places to stop and feed on migration.” Also the bird eggs are being preyed upon by foxes, dogs and other wildlife. Birdlife, a bird conservation group, is taking the lead, and raising awareness of the possible extinction, and are urging for the care of the precious spoon-billed Sandpiper. MOVIES: RESIDENT EVIL, EXTINCTION
Editor's note: Again, this is the second time movie reviewer Marlon Wallace joins us online. Today, he reviews "Resident Evil: Extinction." Oddly enough, while travelling online looking for trailers, we found the full version of the movie in parts on Youtube. While we don't condone piracy, here's the link to the film. It'll be interesting to see how long it stays online. Yes, it has that comic book, video game, action-adventure aura around it, which never really allows you to take any of it seriously. The way she escaped from those crazy zombie dogs. Super cool! Ops, there’s a tiny spoiler. Sorry. However, I must say that I still like the first Resident Evil better. Resident Evil the Extinction doesn’t have as much combat scene which what makes the movie rocks on the first place. Plus, half of the movie, Alice was more of a loner and it made the movie a bit.. quiet. The last entry for the article is the coin-operated arcade. In the mean time, I thought it would be important to go ahead and link to the article to highlight an outsiders opinion about the state of the industry. The Tern May Be Nearing Extinction!
In order to procreate, birds usually rely on their laid eggs for offspring. But for this Chinese bird known as the Tern, people are waiting more for their prized eggs as delicacies to feed on, hence becoming a hindrance to allow them to expand their lineage. Such has been notable towards depriving animals to spread and prosper. While rare delicacies special to some natives have become ideal, it may be a delicacy in peril as well if everything continues towards satisfying the stomach of a person rather than allowing this feathered friends a chance to expand their roots. “Without urgent action conservationists have given the bird less than five years before disappearing completely from its two remaining breeding areas,” the statement said. It quoted head of the Chinese survey team Chen Shuihua as saying the bird was “on the verge of extinction.” Source: Chinese Seabird on Verge of Extinction animals, birds, delicacies, delicacy, eggs, feathered friends, Green L

      Mini-Review: Resident Evil: Extinction
Sorry that I could not update the blog sooner. All of my energy was on 1 Cool File. Also, I should note that they were not many English movies that I wanted to see. Plus, they are mostly shown in an older theater in downtown(cheaper tickets) that was not upgraded, I heard,  in many years.  A part of the weekend, it’s only open after 6pm thus limiting me when I can see them. Btw, It’s been at least 20 years that I went there and won’t any time soon. I don’t like a big head in front of me. It’s an old style theater where the seats are not in angle. When you have tasted the new theater, it’s harder to downgrade by that much. I decided to go by bus(been 12 years) so not to mess with the paid parking there. I waited for THE movie that will force me to go there an found it. I liked Resident Evil: Extinction because it’s an action pack movie and besides, who don’t like zombies being killed again anyway :)  I also liked the story and how Alice

‘Resident Evil: Extinction’ Screams Readiness For Franchise Extinction
AUSTIN, Texas – “Resident Evil: Extinction,” which opens on Friday and to the dismay of many critics didn’t screen across the U.S., is yet another cineplex excursion that’s beneath contempt.Milla Jovovich in “Resident Evil: Extinction”.Photo courtesy of IMDbDirected by Russell Mulcahy, who is best known for the serviceably charming pulp translation of “The Shadow,” the franchise is injected with a promising Mad Max riff by writer and producer Paul W.S. Anderson – yet does nothing with it.At best, I’ve always thought of Anderson (who directed the first film and wrote the second) as a poor man’s Stephen Sommers. To have the second consecutive sequel where Anderson couldn’t be bothered to direct (only write and produce) really says you’re in for “B”-movie hack hell.So “Extinction” is another video game-based sequel by test-marketed numbers where everything about it was cooler in the trailer. The Mad Max stuff turns into mostly trucks driving in a desert

      Gorillas head race to extinction
I very rarely write about topics not relating to health, technology or fitness but I could not let this one go by without posting. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) has identified more than 16,000 species threatened with extinction in the 2007 Red List of threatened species. Included in this list are gorillas, orangutans as well as plants and coral which are sliding closer to extinction. Critically endangered is deemed as an extreme high risk of extinction or possibly extinct. Some of the animals to make this new list include the western lowland gorilla which has moved from the Endangered to the Critically Endangered category. Numbers have declined by more than 60% over the last 20-25 years. Listed as some of the reason for this include forest clearance which has allowed hunters access to previously inaccessible areas. Ebola virus has followed, wiping out one-third of the total gorilla population in protected areas, and up to 95% in some regions. The report is really quite depressi

Bond Originators - Is Extinction on it's way?
DYING DYING - NEVER, Alive and kicking man!Questions I've heard frequently in recent weeks:Are bond origination services feeling the brunt of the NCA?Is it the end of the road for the bond originator? Will banks take over the bond business? When will bond originators cease to exist? To be totally honest, I think it's the beginning! And please stop bringing all this negative energy into my SPACE people, it's not good for business ;-)Really though, what I do think is that South Africa is going to sift out the little originators from the big originators. I believe that the bond originators that did no prepare for the changes the National Credit Act was going to bring to this country and home financing will be the ones and are the ones that are taking heat and feeling the strain. It's thrown a spanner in the works and they don't know how to deal with certain issues...One reason I firmly believe bond originators will stay around and continue to be the number one source of bonds for banks

Indonesia seeks ways to save Sumatran elephants, tigers from extinction
"There is a very real danger that Sumatran elephants (and tigers) could become extinct in our lifetime if we don't come to agreement at this workshop," said Christy Williams of the World Wildlife Fund. Satellite images show that 8 million hectares of Sumatra island's remaining lowland tropical forest - the animals' primary habitat - were lost to development from 1990 to 2000, conservationists say. They estimate that there are only 2,400 to 2,800 Sumatran elephants left in the world, and no more than 400 tigers.

      Extinction of Endangered Species
At last……the decision has been made!! My fellow DY designer in Sony Corp Japan, Murata-san, has been transferred to LCD TV panel engineering department. It’s a huge blow for him…because his whole life has been dedicated to the development of CRT TV. He has a couple of US pattern registration under his name that makes him untouchable to most of DY designers. Thats how good he is…it will never change the final fate of CRT TV !!…. Then, how about me? Am I going to be the last survival in the history of Sony Trinitron DY designer? Yeah..it should be like that. I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about that. I have been sitting at my desk with nothing to do for almost 6 months now. The only thing that I managed to do is surfing the internet and off course..blogging! …I have no problem with that though.. But since I changed from an active worker to a sluggish one, my weight has increased tremendously to 70kg…I realized that I have to take action as soon as possibl

I’m sure it will be fun to see on the big screen but I’m not sure how Rotten Tomatoes is going to like it. Not that anyone really gives a shit anyway! Chuck and Larry proved that you can make a rotten pile of ass into a movie and still come out with a bankroll. The drop date for Resident Evil Extinction is September 21. Seeya there! Thanks to JOE for the emailed tip on this one. I’d give him a gift or prize, but nature already hung the guy like a damned Palomino and he’s stolen at least two of my girlfriends. Asshole! Movie Trailer - Resident Evil: Extinction
I’m torn on the Resident Evil series. I like the games fine. I even like the first movie in a campy, silly sort of way. I can even forgive the fact that it has Michelle Rodriguez in it, playing that clenched grimacy character that she always plays. But Resident Evil: Apocalypse just blew.. there was nothing redeeming about it. But this red band (R-Rated) trailer that Sony has posted for the upcoming Resident Evil Extinction actually looks kind of cool. I don’t think it could possibly be further removed from the games at this point, but it looks like it might be cool for some zombie action. Bookmark to:

A lot of the attention has been on the erring weather and the changing climates. What people tend to forget is that climate change is brought about by deforestation which in turn deprives animals from their usual homes. People are killing some animals for their satisfactory desires. As if it were not enough, we are now taking away their homes for our own selfless needs. The outcome is evident. We just have to think beyond the box and soon, we too may find ourselves having homes, but dying as well if we do not study the whole chain that binds the world together. Following the Path to Extinction and Pollution
We all love to see living animals around, especially the rare ones like giraffes and bears. However we forget that most of the furnishings and clothings we have come from them. Ever wonder why the price is pegged high? Because they are rare to find these days and hard to hunt. The have become rare in the sense that their breeds are slowly decreasing in numbers. All thanks to our bratty needs and wants. We also disregard the polluted waters which have been plaguing our seas today. Dumping waste and garbage is not helping. We can see that when we seek the resources that we need such as food. We are the victims of our own negligence. Download latest version of Flash to view video! .
