According to the news story, the guy was aware of his condition, but chose to ride anyway. Bad decision, but I can understand why he may have risked it.

A 44 year old man died yesterday while riding the Expedition Everest Coaster at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. No reason has been given yet, but I’m guessing it is another undiagnosed medical condition situation.
In the world of roller coasters, Expedition Everest isn’t one of the fastest, highest, or anthing like that. It is a well themed coaster that is totally unique. There are some parts of the ride that pull high G-forces, but these do not last for any substantial amount of time. At Walt Disney World, I’d rank it as the 2nd most thrilling coaster behind Rock -’n Roller Coaster.
I’m sure more info will come out, but it will not make the front page news like the initial death story is. That’s typical of the media these days.

A couple of weeks ago, I described a particularly interesting interview that I faced during my ongoing job hunt. Throughout the entire job search process, I had several other interesting learning experiences and thought it may be appropriate to condense some of them in this blog post.
Below is a compilation of some salient points that resulted either from my personal experience or from discussions with friends, peers, interviewers, and current and former bosses. Although, this is a fairly long post, it is certainly not intended to be any kind of a “comprehensive guide” for job search - so feel free to voice your opinions (positive or negative) on the subject.

Keywords in your resume are important: This was a disappointment to me, but this is what I have observed (perhaps people in different industries have different ways of doing things) - your resume is essentially worthless without some keywords relating to the position you are applying for. I was just turned on to another in-progress two-year vehicle dependent expedition that began in Australia and is currently in Asia, and will travel through Europe, South America, North America to Alaska before finishing up in New York City next year.

For those of us who can only dream of such adventures, we can live vicariously through the travels of Dave Connors. Earlier this month (November 2007), Dave set out on a ten month journey through two continents, eighteen countries, and approximately 14,000 miles. His solo overland adventure (driving his 80-series Toyota Land Cruiser) began in Salt Lake City, Utah and will take him through Central and South America to his goal of completing the adventure in Ushuaia, Argentina.

I just saw a beautiful nature film by Mattias Klum: The Linnaeus Expedition. The film is great a tribute to super scientist Carolus Linnaeus. Mattias brings three young students on an expedition in the foot prints of Linnaeus. The students get the chance to experience amazingly beautiful parts of our world. But they are also confronted with the chocking destruction and devastation that is taking place. Shocking contrasts are revealed. First the enormous biodiversity of a rain forest. Then a dead landscape nearby were tree trunks from the sixties haven't decomposed because there are no microorganisms. The photography is magnificent and the pace is just right to keep the viewer attentive. There is a lot of science but charts and diagrams are scarce. I saw the film together with my seven-year old and I think his company made me even more aware and moved.

We'd planned to go up to Rossall, Fleetwood sea fishing last weekend but the wind direction and strength played havoc with our plans so I arranged to meet a few friends at the venue known as Hall Road which is basically the sea front at Crosby, Liverpool.This venue can throw up some good fish but needs an onshore wind so with the wind blowing up to 20 miles per hour left to right (Southerly) our chances weren't good but we managed to find a space and launched our lugworm baited rigs into the night. We soon found that the Cod were not in and all either myself or Wendy could manage were a few tiny Whiting of about 6" long. We heard that a larger fish had been 'lost' while bringing it over the promenade railings but no-one we know saw it.So not a very good start to the winters Cod fishing but we're still waiting for a major drop in temperature.
