The twins had an excursion with the school to Chinatown today. It is the first time that I am not tagging along since they joined the childcare centre last June. We are in our second week of our vacation and this week, we are onboard the cruise ship touring the Hawaiian islands within 7 days. Since this is our first cruise experience, we are excited to be in a big ship like the Pride of America. On our first day, we checked out the entire fleet and was impressed that there was a walking/jogging track dedicated to the health enthusiasts. The fitness centre was huge and impressive with all the state of the art equipment to keep the active individuals trim and fit. I only wished I had my fitness shoes with me! We met all sorts of people who were here to chill out on a cruise vacation. This guy who dealt with truck accessories and this family who owned fitness centres - it seemed that we would be meeting more interesting people. It was nice that the cafe in the cruise had a nice fruit and salad counter for people like me who couldn’t live a day without any fruits. The other day me and my collogues at the cultural heritage unit at the county administrative board of Krononberg went for a study trip to the island Öland in the southeast part of Sweden. We were to visit Borgholms castle at Öland, Kalmar county museum to get information about an excavation done earlier this year and to the dome of Kalmar that has been partly restored as well as the square in front of it. It turned out to be a fine day. First we arrived to Borgholms castle or more truthfully castle ruin and museum. To be truthfully I didn’t have high expectations, I have visited the ruin on several occasions but as it turned out it have passed 11 years since the last time and a lot had happened. My most vivid memory is from sometimes in the 80’s when I visited a concert that was held within the ruin. Today I took the kids to the park. It was nice weather and we had plenty of time so we went by bike. As it was quite far I put both of them in the cart. The boys are outgrowing the cart so this was maybe their last ride together in it. The cart carries a maximum load of 36 kg. I put the boys on the scale before leaving to make sure and they weighed exactly 36 kilos together.As I peddled on towards the park downtown I could hear the boys singing and chatting behind me in the cart. They really enjoyed the ride.The park was green and nice as always. We started off with ice-creams. Then the boys played for a while in the playground and after that they played some ball in the grass. The temperature was just great for outdoor activities, just above twenty C or so.On the way back the kids were a bit hungry so I gave them some nachos to munch on in the cart.

Yesterday it was gray and rainy and we didn't do much. Today it was gray and rainy too but I didn't want to waste another day doing nothing so I decided to take the boys to the the woods. The residential area we live in is partially surrounded by woods so we just have to go to where the housings end to enter the wilderness. My wife wanted us out of the house as quickly as possible to get some peace and quite, so she more than gladly prepared us some stuff to eat for our excursion: hot carob oatmeal drink (an alternative to cocoa), osembe (rice cookies) and some chopped fruit.As it was wet out we put on rubber boots and rain clothes. Our four-year-old really looked cute in his brightly colored outfit. Our seven-year-old had his race car suit and looked sort of cool. The Salar de Uyuni was the sight that I wanted to see most of all in Bolivia. I’ve seen it on TV and in photos. It’s the world’s largest salt flat, the remains of a prehistoric inland sea.There are two ways to get there. The first, go to the nearby town of Uyuni and book an excursion. However everything I’ve read says the tour companies here are not reliable.The second way is to book a four day tour from Tupiza. The tour companies here are very professional, so I asked around and booked an excursion with Valle Hermoso. All the tours stick pretty much to the same route (with some variations). Yesterday we took our house guests on the All-Day Trilogy Sailing Adventure to Lanai, another Hawaiian Island about an hour and a half away by motor. Through the years, we have sampled nearly all of the boating companies available, and the Trilogy fleet of custom high-tech ocean sailing catamarans are one of our favorite companies because of the great service, crew, and other offerings. Trilogy is the oldest sailing company operating on Maui (since 1973!), and their service and boats are always top notch. Being that all hope is eternal before the season actually begins, it’s a good time as any to watch some baseball through the Mid-Atlantic region.
