Yes, it's really hard for me to believe, but today marks the second anniversary of the beginning of Eclectic Grooves. As I turn the page, I start reflecting on the past year and what it meant to me. I feel that this was a tough year in many respects, but it was also a time where I learned to grow spiritually and emotionally. While I haven't posted as often as I would have liked, I hope that some o

The Pride and the GloryGood news, everyone. A fab new trailer for Pride and Glory was released a couple of days ago. On the downside, it includes even less footage of Jennifer Ehle than the first one! Still, the movie looks very exciting. Both Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 can be seen at youtube. In response, Filmstalker has posted some musings and speculations about the upcoming film and hopes that the

Thinking outside the box never got more fun than “think tank” brainstorming. One of the most under utilized ideas is turning San Francisco’s Bay to Breaker’s race into your marketing bonanza. One example is Autodesk, a successful Bay Area software company. Autodesk has entered a team of runners dressed as the Autodesk centipede. Although this [...]
The term Eclectic can be defined as:1. selecting or choosing from various sources.2. made up of what is selected from different sources.3. not following any one system, as of philosophy, religion, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems. So, in that definition a person may consider themselves eclectic because they borrow from different belief systems, quite frequently within the Neo-Pagan community, some may refer to themselves as eclectic or having eclectic beliefs and take a belief in one path and mix it with another path.I am Eclectic. There is such an epic feel to ‘Lucky Landing’ it’s hard to believe that the Eclectic haven’t been subjected to great tracts of media hyperbole. The Dublin 5 piece may not be exactly prolific (2 EP’s in 3 years) but they should surely have been snapped up by a label looking to bolster its catalogue with ready-made anthems by now. ‘Lucky Landing’ is ravishing, chock full of spiralling chords, tinkling glockenspiel and Kevin O’Brien’s colossal vocals. It might get a little overwrought towards the end but by then you may well be wondering whether you have just wandered into an ‘Ok Computer’ parallel universe. The Eclectic’s ‘Breathe’ EP is out now. Furniture is expensive. Nobody I know can afford to fill their entire house with new furniture all at once. Our furniture has come from many sources over the years.
We have a dining set that I bought shortly after I bought a house in the early 90’s. Our living room sofa, chair, and ottoman came from the same [...]
I am not at all sure what Vincent Van Gogh knew about cosmology, but he seems to have a sense of it in his famous painting "Starry Night." Read about what astronomers have to say about the changing face of our understanding of our universe and where it might lead at Scientific American. We thought that the galaxies were slowing in their redshift away from each other. It turns out, the speed is picking up. This raises many interesting questions about it, not the least of which is what it actually contains. Learn about "dark energy."~~**~~**~~**~~On this day in 1770, the Boston Massacre occurred. Five were killed while protesting the British imposition of the Stamp Act. Starting with taunting, the thing escalated and re-enforcements were called in. Some one fired a shot, and then a lot of s
So I did sleep last night. I woke up at 1 pm, which is unheard of for me. The house was a mess, Toni had a supper last night with his friends and he left everything dirty and disgusting. Sabrina went berserk and we both had a bitch talk with him. Actually, it was more like me supporting her, because I was in such a great mood that not even the full sink of greasy plates, the dirty table and the general smell of cigarettes left overs could bring me down. Then we went to have a coffee down under, there's a new coffee place that opened while we were away, at the ground floor of our building, next to the giant Bob Dylan billboard. I talked to her about me wanting to get a tattoo, and she has a tattoo artist friend that will make me a cool one and will charge me next to nothing. I'm so loo
Oscar showed us an interesting article by some 'author' who wrote that any Vedic astrologer using the Saturnine planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) are using 'hodge-podge' astrology. Maybe that term needs clarification.
'Hodge-podge' is a term used to refer to things that are put together loosely and without strong reason for inclusion. Sort of "let's put everything in and see what comes out of

As I stumble upon different pages, I look for symbols that remind me of things I have encountered in the past or capture an essence of something that strikes free floating images. I came across this object in a quaint new online store, Nicoya Gift (www.nicoyagift.com), that features interesting forms that go well with the idea/vision of Eclectic Commons.
This object conveys a simple design that speaks of Lothlorien, enchanted forest of Middle Earth in JRR Tolkiens, The Lord Of The Rings. Reminiscent of something worn by the fair Lady Galadriel (the morning star), Lady of the Wood, her granddaughter Arwen (the evening star), Queen of Minas Tirith, or a simple elf maiden. An elegant design which features “a vine motif” in silver, representative of the earth, branches of a tree, and mystery of that which arises from the Acorn, the seed of life that grows and becomes the wood in the rectangular shape also reminiscent of Manhattan’s gem, Central Park.
The simplest design,
Contemporary eclectic is the integration of several interior styles to create a new brand character. In such a case, a good sense and special tip plays crucial role in order to have the building and spaces looking harmonious and elegant. Stepping into this house, one will notice that there are different architectural and interior styles displaying each own detailed appearances, both functional and decorative, which become the special character and atmosphere. Through such integration of several details from diverse style, a brand new look appears to depict the owner character. exactly what he did to his residence. He adopts the appearance of Mediterranean room separation to gain a relaxing and comfort resort atmosphere in his house. However, he minimize decorative details to fit it with the furniture and simple modern room decoration. The overall result is a brand new style of the so-called contemporary eclectic. Rough textured paint, natural stone column and clay r
It's hard to believe that Eclectic Grooves has already been around for a year. It seems like just yesterday that I posted to Blogger for the first time. While the year hasn't been as prolific or productive as I would have liked, I feel that it has been a great year in many ways. In honor of my one year aniversary, I am reposting a link to the Evan Parker live show at the 411 Club- Portland, Oregon that was first posted on here last December. This concert featured Evan Parker on saxophones, Alexander Von Schlippenbach on Piano and Paul Lytton on drums. It was recorded on mindisc by yours truly, and it is an amazing reproduction of the concert with an amazing sonic clarity that makes you feel like you are actually there. I am not going to go into detail here, since I am still getting over a cold. However, please visit the original post for more information and enjoy the re-up of this amazing performance. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by throughout the past year, and helped to make

Well, I'm back from vacation with many ideas for this blog. I've been listening to all kinds of music and traversing the web for the latest and greatest blogs to feature on Eclectic Grooves.I will be updating the web links on the side of this page, as it has come to my attention that many of these blogs are defunct or have infrequent updates. In addition, I have a plethora of new sites that I have been checking out on a daily basis that I will be showcasing on here in a future post.I wanted to inform you that the fight for internet radio is still going on. Many people voiced their concerns over the past month, and let it be known that they will not allow their civil liberties and freedoms to be violated. Because of this, Pandora will have more of a fighting chance for survival in the internet radio business. Unfortunately, the fight isn't over yet, and we need to continue contacting our local representatives and state senators to support the passing of the Net Neutrality Act. I will

This does not spell out the ritual so much as provide the words to use when consecrating and casting the circle as well as for calling the elements.
It does not provide the text for dismissing the elements nor for opening the circle. It also fails to give suggestions for work to do inside the circle …. ie trance work, guided meditation, raising energy for magic, etc.
However it is a good example of how you can word things, expecially if you are having a gathering of folks from a variety of traditions.

Foo Fighters are American rock royalty, one of the only legit, straight-up-and-down rock bands we have left. So naturally, on their upcoming album, theyre going to take things in a more eclectic direction. "Its always been my dream to mix Steely Dan with No Means No, Dave Grohl told Billboard regarding the tentatively titled Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace. "If anybody is going to do it, Id love to be that guy."

In my last major post, I look at the idea of “religious eclecticism“, and how I think it’s likely that all religions share the same basic ideas. I also said I’d try and use a variation of Pascal’s wager to help justify my position.
Pascal’s wager goes something like this:
Living your life as if God exists will bring infinite benefit (you go to heaven) if, in fact God exists. If it turns out that God does not exist, then you haven’t missed out on much. If, on the other hand, you were to live as if God didn’t exist, but you turned out to be wrong, then you’d suffer infinitely (hell and damnation). Even if you were right about God not existing, the benefit you’d gain while you were alive would be minimal compared to eternal damnation. In a more graphical format, Pascal’s wager looks like this:
God exists (G)
God does not exist (~G)
Living as if God exists (B)
+∞ (heaven)
−N (none)
Not living as if God exist

Holly Stadler is the creative genius behind the Holly Stadler line of clothing. The collection is filled with fluid tops and dresses adorned with unexpected quirky details. In particular, I love the detailing around the neck and bust line of these three dresses. Fresh, sweet, but still totally elegant, her use of lighthearted fabrics and colors give a youthful glow that is totally unique. Holly is also the co-owner of SeaPlane, a boutique that carries independent designers in Portland, Oregon.
