I set up some Google Alerts to help me research an article I’ve been asked to write for a CPA Journal. An alert on “forensic accounting” took me to a page that had a link to an intriguingly titled study:“The Long Tail of Investment Research:How Economic Forces Are Reshaping the Research Industry”I was really impressed with the study on several levels and decided to blog about it because
My blog gets a lot of hits for search phrases like “eMarketing what works and what doesn’t” and “internet marketing best practices.” I have a mental picture of the people using these search terms as nomads wandering across the desert that is the internet searching for answers they’re probably not finding. I wonder if these intrepid searchers find the answers they are looking for. Someh
Emarketing can be such a powerful tool but so easily abused. The gains you receive may quickly be reverse by its overuse or misuse.
Last week my wife receive a message from her tertiary institution informing her (and every single other student) about how they were going to pass on her email address to a third party company so that they could send marketing information. The email introduced the company and highlighted some products and benefits, which were in themselves valid. However, people had to opt out rather than opt in to receive this communication.Personally, I think that on an ethical level, this is dubious. The school obviously stands to profit by selling their list to the third party. But the point is that people had to opt out, and it gave them 2 days to do so, some people woul
For those of you who missed this week’s jam packed newsletter (nicely done Manners) we are pretty chuffed to announce our exciting new corporate education course: eMarketing over Breakfast.
Although I've only been here a short while, the team at Quirk have been teaching and lecturing on all things eMarketing for years. Recently we've been getting a lot of requests for private corporate sessions but individually they take a lot of work to prepare and often you are only reaching 5 or 6 people.
We wanted to do something that would at least double our reach but still remain small enough to ensure we get a good discussion going and everyone's interests are addressed. We also acknowledge the time limitations that professionals in business are subjected to today. Marketing is hard work and there is always more to be done!
So we thought we'd kill two birds with one stone and give you your most important meal of the day (and yes... it will be super tasty), whilst we give you th
Quirk has always endeavoured to educate the public on eMarketing, what the future holds for marketing online and the various uses of the Internet. Now our focus is turned on the 3rd year and post-graduate marketing students at the University of Cape Town. Quirk was approached by course convenor Justin Beneke to take over the eMarketing lectures that form part of the Information Technology & Marketing course in order to generate more interest in eMarketing and to increase the practical applications of this course.
With a dynamic team of QuirkStars lecturing I'm very optimistic and confident that we'll be able to make the course (and the discipline of eMarketing) more engaging to a group of students that will play a large part in South Africa's online future.
The lectures begin next week and will cover the following aspects of eMarketing: PPC, Online Advertising, Affiliate Marketing, Conversion Optimisation, SEO, WebPR, ORM, Social Media and Viral and Email Marketing.

So yesterday was Human Rights Day – I hope all the South African’s had a relaxing public holiday spent with family and friends. Unfortunately there is no rest for the wicked, and being a Wednesday it meant that it was time for Quirk’s fortnightly newsletter.
After a few dramas (we love living on the edge - it adds some excitement) the newsletter went out, albeit a bit late. We released Chapter 9 of our eMarketing 101 series: Affiliate Marketing – because we all need friends. Go on – check it out. Those 101 collections should be growing quite nicely now. Make sure you’re signed up to the newsletter so that you receive the chapters as they’re released.
PS – yes I realise there is a small mistake in the newsletter – a little slip-up on my behalf…
Comment on "eMarketing 101 Update"
During my recent travels around YouTube, I found a very interesting video about some random guy who goes by the nickname Chudnovsky.
With 528,179 views, 2,705 comments, and being on 2,817 peoples’ favourites list, I thought to my self: “Why all the attention?” It’s not funny. Nobody dies. Yes, it might classify as being a bit weird, but this guy might be onto something. I investigated…
Alex Chudnovsky, male, aged 33, living in Sydney Australia,
Loves music and wants to make friends. He’s got 48 original videos, with loads of views (952,926) and comments (11,116) from other YouTubers.
He’s got 1, 2, 3 websites, each with a PageRank of 0, and surprisingly, 0 inbound links.
Ok, except for being Australian, and not having enough friends at 33, he’s a pretty normal guy. But why does no one know about this?
10 things Chudnovsky could do to improve his stuation:
