Japanese PS3 buyers will be able to choose from three "Welcome Box" MGS4 bundles in Satin Silver, Ceramic White, and Clear Black, and in addition to Snake's latest adventure and a Dual Shock 3, they'll find a SIXAXIS inside. The bundles will cost ¥49,800 ($470), compared to ¥51,800 ($492) for the gunmetal gray bundle that doesn't include the extra controller, so basically Sony's giving Japanese buyers $20 to take a SIXAXIS home. That's quite a deal, but honestly, we'd rather take drop the Jackson on that super-hot gunmetal unit home than have another (obsolete) controller lying around.[Via Joystiq]Read

Dollar Dumping Could Damage the U.S. Economy
Is it possible the U.S. wont recover as well from this recession like it has so many times in the past? The value of the dollar has declined to the point that it is possible that companies may end up diversifying their currency holdings which means they may sell the American dollars. When countries begin to drop the dollar and the dollar then floods the markets it losses value. The floodgates may not be closed again. The American dollars value is based in part on the strength of the economy but also on the strength of the demand for the dollar. Demand is based in part on the scarcity of an item. The scarcer the dollar, the higher the value of the dollar because countries want these dollars to invest assets in. It acts like an international medium of doing business thereby developing a glob

      Unions dumping ‘old ways’?
Local teachers unions are growing more accepting of initiatives that link pay to performance and reduce the influence of teacher seniority in transfer and staffing decisions, according to a report out today from the Citizens' Commission on Civil Rights. Among other examples, the report cites union-backed performance-pay plans in Denver and Minneapolis. It also gives a nod to a provision in Pinellas County that "gives principals more flexibility in picking their staff and creating a school culture conducive to improvement." Such moves will ultimately help disadvantaged kids, says the report, which was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. "In many of these places, organization by community leaders, educators and parents served as the catalyst for change," it says. "In the end, however, change was made possible by the willingness of union leaders to abandon old ways and advocate reform." Read more here. - Ron Matus, state education reporter

Is China quietly dumping US Treasuries?
From the Telegraph:Is China quietly dumping US Treasuries?A sharp drop in foreign holdings of US Treasury bonds over the last five weeks has raised concerns that China is quietly withdrawing its funds from the United States, leaving the dollar increasingly vulnerable.Data released by the New York Federal Reserve shows that foreign central banks have cut their stash of US Treasuries by $48bn since late July, with falls of $32bn in the last two weeks alone."This comes as a big surprise and it is definitely worrying," said Hans Redeker, currency chief at BNP Paribas."We won't know if China is behind this until the Treasury releases its TIC data in November, but what it does show is that world central banks are in a hurry to get out of the US. They don't seem to be switching into other currencies, so it is possible they are moving into gold instead. Gold is now gaining momentum across all currencies and has broken through resistance at 500 euros," he said. While the greenback has been res

Jets Don’t Plan On Dumping Kendall
Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger has an article up that states that the Jets do not plan to release disgruntled left guard Pete Kendall. The team plans to keep him on at his current $1.7 million salary. Kendall has demanded a release of his contract or trade from the team and that strategy failed as the Jets began to utilize Kendall more and take advantage of his versatility by having him practice at center as well as left guard. The Jets don’t have any veteran depth for the guard positions with the third-string guard being undrafted rookie free agent signing Dominick Moran. Unless the Jets pickup a guard after cuts are made, it looks as if Kendall is here to stay. According to a Jets officials, the team is pleased with Adrien Clarke’s performance so far this offseason while replacing Kendall as the starter. Tony Wise, the offensive line coach, speaks on Kendall… “Pete has been very good. He’s sharp as heck. He knows theory and offensive line play. H

Looking at the demographics of who would use such a service I would guess that contextual advertising wasn’t going to pay for the overhead and resource needs of the service. Me? I’m quite happy with Mint, still. Sure, it’s not free. But on the other hand… my stats are still working and are hosted locally so I’m not dependent on a third party maintaining the service.
