Now, they look *forward* to drying off!
Lily and her best friend Gracie (picture of the week April 5th) have matching hooded flower towels, store-bought from "The Children's Place". Her mother, my friend Abi, had the foresight to buy two so that neither little girl would want the other's. They were a HIT. Both Lily and Gracie love them. I liked the idea so much that I decided to make some of my own. I started out with lofty goals. I planned to make 6-7 for each girl. Well, that never happened but at least I didn't "throw in the towel" altogether. I did manage to make two a piece- a duck and a bunny (as well as a blue doggie for Gracie's brother). Not too bad. Dressing up never gets boring and better yet, it makes them look forward to drying off:)(To right) Lily at her weekly swimming lesson, swimming with only ONE back floaty! I

      Things Are Finally Drying Up!
It actually was in the 60's over the weekend, of course I had to work and today it's a bit cooler and supposed to be drizzly all week, but I am so glad that it's finally drying up around here as I have to keep the girls locked up because we will spread new seed in the pasture this week. Note the heavy chain on the gate. Kola's bottom is precisely why I have that chain there. She often leans her backside up against the panels. There may another post on the trials and tribulations of putting together the seed spreader we bought this Spring. There just might be another boxing match. Drying Off
A male Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) sits drying its wings. Unlike a duck the Anhinga's feathers are not waterproofed by oils allowing the bird to become waterlogged so it can easily dive under water and search for fish. Because of this the Anhinga must occasionally dry its wings, assuming the familiar pose seen above. (Taken at Savannas Preserve State Park; Port St. Lucie, Florida.)

Drying of Foods Using Different Drying Equipment
Drying is used to remove water from foods for two reasons: to prevent (or inhibit) micro-organisms and hence preserve the food and to reduce the weight and bulk of food for cheaper transport and storage. Drying Process with Preservative Solution
Preservative solution will produce dry flower that has color and softness like fresh flower. You also can give the other color as you want. This preservative solution usually is safe for environment. Drying technique The plant that will be dried must be processed at the latest 4 hours after picked. In this process, there are 3 phases that should be done. Holding (preservation solution absorption). Cut your flower stem about 4 cm to throw away the air bubble that can impede preservation solution absorption. For the holding process you can mix the preservation solution and distillation water with ratio 1 : 3. Enter the stem tip in warm preservation solution until you get the color that you want (usually take about 3-4 days).  (more…)

Drying Process with Drying Media (Desiccant)

      Drying Out
Well, looks like I am going to need a humidifier. In less than 48 hours the humidity in the tank has dropped from 78% to 58%. That’s after I put the sand in, and the sand was fairly moist. So this is what I get for living in the desert! So I’ll be putting one together, probably a DIY humidifier, and setting it into the tank before I get any land hermit crabs. Gotta have the crabitat right first!

      | Resep | Preparing Fruit and Vegetbles for the Food Preservation Art of Drying
Preparing Fruit and Vegetbles for the Food Preservation Art of Drying(Resep Online) - Food preservation is a good housekeeping art which has been with us for hundreds of years. The following tips and advice will show you how best to prepare fruit and vegetables for drying.1) When picking fruits and vegetables for the drying process it is important that you choose fresh produce, otherwise the decomposition of the food itself may have already gone too far.2) When you are happy with the choices you've made with regards to the food itself, it is time to wash, peel and deseed them. Whilst you're doing this it's a good idea to scour each piece of fruit or vegetable for any damaged patches. If you do find any - and the likelihood is that you will - just cut them out with the peeler. When you are completely happy move on to step three.3) Step three of this food preservation process is where you cut the individual fruit/veg in small pieces of roughly a of an inch. These small pieces will i

Drying up the ol' watering hole
A combination of drought affecting much of the Nation and extreme wet weather affecting Texas and a large section of Tornado Alley has greatly impacted the availability of North American hay stores.  Wet weather has caused spoilage and increased molding problems. Dry conditions stunted growth and reduced the tonnage of hay baled this season.  Adverse weather has also led to increased weed content.  The short hay supplies have left many livestock owners scrambling to find alternative forage for cattle, sheep, goats, and horses.  In North Carolina alone, it is estimated that an additional 800,000 round bales of hay will be needed to feed the beef and dairy cattle in the state during the normal winter feeding period. In drought-stricken areas of the nation, some commodity corn growers have been baling corn stalks for use as winter forage, fueling concerns over excess residue removal.  (Interestingly enough, at 155.8 bushels / acre U.S. corn yields are the secon

      Dangers of Drying Boxes
I had never heard of drying boxes before until this came to my attention.  I thought I would pass it along.  This is a true story of a greyhound named Riva. Riva’s mom Nancy has given permission for all to share the details of Riva’s tragic death as a warning to other Grey lovers.  Please feel free to repost this everywhere you can so that we can get the word out on how dangerous these drying boxes can be.  Many thanks. “Before Maggie there was Riva and I want tell you how we tragically lost her last summer. My husband was away for a few days and I decided to take Riva to a groomer for just a good shampoo.  I dropped her off at 8 a.m. and waited to get a call that she was done, so I could pick her up. I didn’t get a call until 1 p.m. and the groomer simply stated that Riva was ready.  I went to pick her up and when I went in to get her she was lying on the floor in a pool of sweat, panting rapidly and when I looked into her eyes I knew she was gone. On the 1st May the site hits started getting a lot better again till 25th May when they have slumped again. Large and Durable Drying Rack
When I was in college (wow, typing that sentence makes me feel so old!) I had a really crappy drying rack for my clothes. Then it broke and I headed over to the local hardware store and they only had other crappy ones to replace it. I really wish I had this one: It’s large, it’s sturdy, it’s protable and it costs $89.99. I know it seems pricey, but after going through three of the knock-off versions on my own in four years, I know it’s an investment that’s well worth it –  especially if you live in a dorm (apartment) where drying your clothes is expensive (and bad for the environment!). Be sure you don't unnecessarily damage your hair by being aware of these top ten hair drying tips including use of a hair dryer.Hair drying through rough rubbing with a towel when the hair is wet can cause damage, especially if it is already fragile. Here are ten important hair drying tips to ensure your hair is kept in good condition despite the toll everyday wear and tear can have:Hair Drying Tip: Naturally1. While this may not be possible for everyone, especially if there is a rush to get out in the morning, allowing the hair to dry naturally is the best hair drying method you can adopt. If your hair is curly, short or spiky, use your fingers to dry the hair which will help the hair stand up more than using a comb or brush.3. Do not vigorously rub wet hair with a towel. How to make the ultimate drying rack
Living in South Korea, it is rare to have a dryer in your home. Most people dry their clothes on drying racks. This is the most economical way (it's good for the environment as well) to dry your clothes. You will save on the electricity bill and you'll feed good about yourself. Drying racks are dirt cheap and our drying racks were supplied by our employer (and from the previous couple who lived in our officetel; they were gracious enough to donate theirs to us).So you're probably feeling pretty fuzzy right now. But wait, there are some downsides to drying your clothes on a rack. Sometimes, even with the addition of fabric softener, your previously soft cotton towels will dry up into one crusty, sandpaper-like, piece of cardboard. The days of launching your damp clothes into the dryer and walking away are over. Now you have to hang dry each individual piece of clothing which takes time. Also, the feeling of fresh clothes right out of the dryer are long gone. So if you're in Korea te

The Morning After, drying panels, and Mango
The Morning After7 x 5", Oils on canvas covered hardboard$100 unframed via PayPal, free shipping within US (email me for international rates)Well, I confess.....This isn't leftover from last night; I set it up for the painting. Then hubby asked me where his aspirin went, and I had to tell him it was down in the studio, in my setup. That got some laughs. I still need to touch up the elipse on the top of the glass. I played lost and found edges and then it got.....lost! heheMeanwhile, a coat of gesso and modeling paste mix has been added to the two coats of sealer already on the new panels, and they are drying in the studio. Once they get dry to the touch, I put them in letter-holders (found at Staples for a couple of dollars each) to dry completely. This keeps them separated and prevents them from taking up every square inch of surface space in my studio! I'll apply the first coat of gesso/pumice this afternoon. They probably won't be ready for painting until the weekend. My little bi
