Thinking about drug addiction treatment I am forced to consider the current news on celebrities and can’t help but think about relapse…an inevitable reality for anyone who has gone through or is going through drug addiction treatment.

ABC 7 News in Denver recently posted a news article on Staying Healthy: Can Camera Help Drug Users Overcome Addictions? Phototherapy Sessions Appear To Help Increase Self-Esteem. I love it! The idea of substituting a camera (or a pen or a paintbrush or a guitar or a pair of ballet slippers) for a needle (or a bottle or a pill bottle or a pipe) makes me really happy.

A recent study concluded that regular exercise reduces the motivation for taking drugs. This should actually come as no surprise - exercise has already been proven to reduce anxiety and depression, two of the major reasons why a person might start taking drugs (or alcohol) in the first place, and continue using them until they need a drug addiction treatment center to quit. However, it might be a

When someone has completed a detox treatment in Delaware, that person is asked to go in for a relapse prevention program at either an inpatient treatment setting such as a residential treatment program or in an outpatient treatment setting.
According to the Associated Press, there’s some new research out that says exercise may help prevent substance abuse. Well, of course it does! We knew that, right? But it’s always nice to be validated by the scientific community.
The United States government is pushing for even more research in this area, something that explores the effects of “regular” activity as opposed to the “runn

Dear Self, It makes me sad and a little angry to have to write to myself under these circumstances. I am not angry at me. I just never really thought I would have to have “the drug talk” with myself. I will keep this simple and straight to the point. Drugs will destroy me, just look at what they have done to my life. I will spend the rest of my life fighting a disease for which there is no kno

1, Definition of drug abuse

Drug addiction is a compulsive disorder. Addiction can be of varied kinds, namely drugs, alcohol, gambling, spending, smoking, sex, eating or any other behavior. A person hit by this is often unsatisfied and restless. Drug addiction in layman’s terms would be dependence on chemicals or on unwanted plants for the sake of getting high.

It has always fascinated me that people of good will, people of letters, qualified people who study and earnestly try to understand the nature of addiction, can so often completely disagree with each other. Is drug addiction caused by a human being’s response to pain? Is it genetic? Is it socio-economic? Is it caused by [...]

After all, you lived through it and it seemed relatively harmless. What you may not know is that marijuana today is far more potent than [...]
Are the pressures of modern society so great that it is forcing people both young and old to take up drugs or is it more to do with peer group pressure that is encouraging the participation in drug abuse, or maybe it can be blamed on genetic makeup??

When you’re running your own outpatient recovery like a Suboxone treatment, it’s crucial that you put some effort into creating a strong support network. You need peers who are going through the same thing you are to commiserate with and mentors who have been there and done that who can give you advice. You also need a little impartial guidance. So how do you get the support you need during outpatient Suboxone detox? Just ask.
When you’re using Suboxone as an outpatient treatment to break an opiate addiction, you’re going it alone. It’s the nature of the treatment and it has many perks—you are free to continue working, taking care of kids or elder family members, keep your addiction issues private—but there are a few drawbacks as well. If you do your outpatient treatment through Meditox, you get 24-hour access to their support desk which provides you with medical advice and referrals to local support groups, doctors who understand your predicament and any other resources you need to stay clean and sober. Here are a few recovery tools that you can implement on your own in addition to Suboxone treatment to increase your chances of a successful, lasting recovery.
Drug addiction has become a social problem. Everybody must care about this problem. Some treatment centers have been established to cope with drug problem. One of them is The Canyon which cares about drug rehab. The Canyon provides drug treatment programs. The programs are very interesting because they are aimed not only at physical condition but also at mind and spirit of the drug addict. The Canyon always tries to reduce the risk of relapse because, as we know, some drug addicts who have been recovered from their addiction relapse after a certain period of time. The Canyon really understands this condition and tries to prevent the probability of relapse with its effective treatment programs.
Prohibited drugs and Alcohol are vices that you cannot break away easily if you are already addicted to it.I know some who are trying hard to quit and live a new life with their loved ones. But sad to say, many of them failed and just went back to their addiction. And if that person is one of the member in your family or a very close friend, you will get hurt seeing them wasting their hard earned money and sometimes to the point of wasting their lives by doing criminal acts just to support their vices. So, the question is, what can you do to help them totally turn their back from these bad vices? If it is in the worst scenario already, then Drug Rehabs can help you help them be free from their addiction. But make sure that you will search and look for a Rehab Center that you can trust and hav
When Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith founded Alcoholics Anonymous in 1935, they changed the approach to dealing addictions forever. They did it some forty years before the term “substance abuse” was even coined, and they did it in the firm belief that those suffering from addiction cannot recover on their own. Drug addiction recovery, in their philosophy, demands that a very personal, painful failing cannot be eradicated until it has been brought into public view. The Twelve Step Program which is the foundation of AA has now become the foundation of thousands of drug addiction recovery programs which treat dependency on every sort of drug, from prescription medications to speed, heroin, nicotine, and cocaine. The AA program, and drug addiction recovery based on it, require that addicts adm

The American Psychiatric profession believes, “Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. Once a drug addict, always a drug addict. Alcoholism/drug addiction is a disease and ‘Relapse’ is part of recovery.”“Not true” says, Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD, Holistic Healer. “Using a holistic approach – Body, Mind and Spirit—people can be healed of alcoholism and drug addiction without relapse and without cravings by healing the underlying causes which precipitate the need to use alcohol or drugs to cope. A holistic approach incorporates life coaching, massage therapy, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, yoga, physical fitness, spiritual awakening, as well as Chinese herbology.”The ‘Once an addict always an addict and Relapse is a Part of Recovery’ paradigm has crippled and doomed man
Imagine waking up one morning and realizing your prescription for Percocet has just run out, yet instead of feeling the typical relief in finishing a prescription-this time you want more. At first the cravings are subtle, yet make no mistake about it they are there, dragging you towards an addiction to Percocet. What is Percocet?Percocet is part of a larger group of prescription drugs known as opioids. These opioids are known as synthetic opiates, because they are originally derived from the poppy plant, which is the plant that all opiates originate from. Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen and although not as powerful as it's counterparts like Oxycontin, it is just as insidious. Opioids are usually used for pain relief, typically after an injury or operation, yet for a
A drug addiction is strongly desiring to take a drug that makes you feel good. For example, snorting cocaine makes you energetic, alert, euphoric, with increased mental clarity. Once you're addicted to a drug, abstaining from it becomes a nightmare. For example, abstaining from cocaine can cause agitation, depression, extreme fatigue, anxiety, angry outbursts, lack of motivation, vomiting, shaking, irritability, muscle pain, and disturbed sleep.Thorndike's Law of EffectSimply put, what keeps you addicted is that taking the drug makes you feel good, and avoiding it makes you feel awful. This coincides with Thorndike's Law of Effect: If a reward follows a particular behavior, that behavior probably will be repeated; if a punishment follows a particular behavior, that behavior probably won't

The gay nightclub scene in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Florida continues to thrive. Maybe it is due to so many gay and lesbian men and women moving south from New York City, NY, Boston, Mass. or Chicago, Illinois. Whatever the case the gay “club scene” continues to grow.
Along with the gay club scene growing, the gay drug addiction problem is increasing. The good news is there are now drug addiction recovery programs, sensitive to the needs fo the LGBT. Unfortunately, many of the LGBT have built their entire social network around the “gay club scene”, which often times leads to relapse, not to mention STD’s, HIV and HEP C.

Unless you are gay like me, you can not understand the fear associated with telling your heterosexual parents. All they ever spoke about was the day I would get married and give them grandchildren. Every tme I heard that I hit the crystal meth pipe and mellowed with alcohol. This went on for years until I realized and so did my parents that I had developed a crystal meth addiction and alcohol addiction, but that was not what I was concerned about.
I went to drug addiction treatment willingly and my parents were relieved I went to the treatment rehab. The staff at the drug addiction rehab were great and provided me with the best of drug addiction treatment, but then it hit me. This drug addiction treatment rehab had a family treatment rehab program and that was next. Well, you should have
As addicts, we have an incurable disease called addiction. In drug rehab you will learn the disease is chronic, progressive and fatal. However, at drug rehab it is a treatable disease. We feel that each individual has to answer the question, “Am I an addict?” How we got the disease is of no immediate importance [...]
I have watched Celebrity Rehab and I have to tell you that it is like a citcom. The fact that these people in Celebrity Rehab downplays the real importance of a drug addiction rehab. It is as if drug addiction rehab is not important as the major of element is automatically breached, as well as, it looks like the celebrities on Celebrity Rehab are acting.
I saw one actor on a talk show recently and he tried to describe celebrities as different, especially regarding their access to drugs and less than desireable people. It show just how little they or he is getting out of drug addiction rehab. Their access to drugs is no greater than a physician or pharmacist and the illicit individuals they speak of are no worse than a heroin addict meets on the street every day.

If you suspect a loved one of having a drug addiction problem, where do you go to find information? Information on drug addiction can be found in a variety of places. Even if you are the one with the drug addiction - when you have as much information as possible about this disease, you will be better equipped to deal with it and overcome it.
First and foremost, start with the Internet. There is so much information on the worldwide web; you can even get a little bit overwhelmed. However, it's usually better to have too much information rather than not enough. Do a quick search on your favorite search engine for "drug addiction" and then spend some time reading through the websites you are given.
Look for books on the subject of drug addiction. Books contain a lot of relevant information that can help when addiction is part of your life. There are even some great downloadable e-books on the Internet that can give you instant informa
A drug treatment program needs to address life issues outside of the drug addiction. Medical, psychiatric, social and legal problems also need to be addressed in order to provide an effective drug treatment program. Because a person’s addiction recovery process does not follow any particular course, drug treatment plans need to be adjusted based on patient progress. Changes in medication, dual diagnosis treatment or questioning one's sexuality in the gay, lesbian arena are just some examples of changes that may take place in a drug treatment plan.

Drug treatment programs also need to take into account a person’s gender, age and culture in order to provide individualized drug addiction treatment. People with drug addictions need to stay in treatment long enough for treatment to be effective. Drug addiction research has indicated that for most people, a 6-8 stay is the minimum for effective drug addiction treatment. The longer a person stays in addiction treatment the be
Pete Doherty, who recently completed a rehab stint, was caught injecting himself with heroin… again. Even though he was allegedly clean for six weeks, it appears Pete Doherty has caved into his addiction once more and according to The Sun, “He may have got clean through rehab, but as soon as the temptation is put in front of him, he cannot help himself. It’s so sad to see. He’s been given so many chances and so many fresh starts and he just throws them all away. “It’s not fair on those who have tried to help. It makes a mockery of the legal system. “Anyone else would have been sent to jail by now.”After watching the video on The Sun’s page, I’ve decided to give Pete Doherty another chance. Maybe he’s diabetic and he was melting powder sugar to inject himself with some home made insulin or well, maybe not, I’m pretty sure that would be dangerous. So, if it’s not heroin, lets think of the things it could be… saline, heroin, insulin, heroin, heroin, he

Alcohol/drug addiction is one of the only diseases known to man that tells you that you don’t have it. People with heart conditions, diabetics, or other ailments don’t deny that they have the condition. As a matter of fact, the sooner they admit it, the sooner they can find a physician and seek treatment. On the other hand, people who suffer from alcoholism/drug addiction deny their condition, they don’t seek help, and most end up dying from the disease.
The last time you drank or used, did you use more than you originally said you would, or leave for home later than you promised yourself or someone else? It’s difficult to be gay in a straight world, so it’s no wonder that so many individuals who deem themselves to be gay or are uncertain about their sexuality search for drug rehabs that offer gay and lesbian therapy.
Great care should be taken in locating an addiction treatment center who specializes in gay therapy. Beware of a drug rehab who may attempt to “cure” or even “convert” you. Those addiction treatment centers have their own agenda. Also be sure that your chosen drug rehab is well-versed on issues confronting the gay community and isn’t afraid to talk about sexual issues. It’s best to contact local or regional organizations concerned with gay issues to find a reputable drug rehab program for your needs. Drug addiction treatment for the gay and lesbian population should consist of a number of factors and how you’re counseled may depend on where you stand as far as accepting your sexuality.
Most gay friendly drug rehabs rely on the widely-accepted six
HIV Drug Approved by FDA
Raltegravir Tablets Used in Combination with Other Antiretroviral Agents
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved raltegravir tablets for treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents in treatment-experienced adult patients who have evidence of viral replication and HIV-1 strains resistant to multiple antiretroviral agents.
Raltegravir is the first agent of the pharmacological class known as HIV integrase strand transfer inhibitors, designed to interfere with the enzyme that HIV-1 needs to multiply. Raltegravir, sold under the trade name Isentress, received a priority review by the FDA.
“This is an important new product for many HIV-infected patients whose infections are not being controlled by currently available medications,” said Janet Woodcock, M.D., FDA’s deputy commissioner for scientific and medical programs, chief medical officer and acting director, Center for Drug Eval
No single drug addiction treatment is appropriate for all individuals. Matching treatment settings, interventions, and services to each individual’s particular problems and needs is critical to his or her ultimate success in returning to productive functioning in the family, workplace, and society.
Drug addiction treatment needs to be readily available. Because individuals who are addicted to drugs may be uncertain about entering rehab, taking advantage of opportunities when they are ready for treatment is crucial. Potential treatment applicants can be lost if treatment is not immediately available or is not readily accessible.
Effective rehab attends to multiple needs of the individual, not just his or her drug use. To be effective, treatment must address the individual’s drug use and any associated medical, psychological, social, vocational, and legal problems.
An individual’s addiction treatment and services plan must be assessed continually and modified as necessa
Addiction intervention
Addiction intervention is a pre-planned attempt by one or many people (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors) to get the addict to seek professional addiction treatment, enter a drug rehab, alcohol rehabilitation, eating disorder, mental health, or dual-diagnosis treatment center. Generally, there are two types of intervention - informal and formal. An informal intervention is simply a conversation you might have with the person you are concerned about and sharing some of your observations, asking questions, and suggesting that (s)he seek qualified addiction treatment.
A formal intervention involves a trained professional interventionist, acting as a facilitator and mediator, who assists with a structured, pre-planned conversation between the support group and the addicted person during the intervention. This involves bringing together a group of people with the addict to explore how his or her addiction has affected all of their lives. The formal interventi
I’ve been fortunate that I have never had a problem with drug addiction. I think its genetic. I simply have no desire to overindulge in anything except for maybe berries which I love and adore and could eat all day long). I always quit drinking long before I get drunk unless there is someone pushing me to drink more faster to make me drunk. My husband likes to do that. He says its because I’m funny when i get drunk. Apparently I become miss Super psychic lady and start making predictions. I don’t tend to overindulge in food or pills or anything. The only thing I had a problem with once was anorexia and that was not because I was starving myself on purpose, I was just so busy I kept forgetting to eat.
I have known people that have had to go through drug rehabilitation before and its not a pretty picture. Its so difficult on them I wonder why they return, but then they have a problem that may or may not be genetic so its really hard for me to relate to that or
Drug Addiction Treatment and Addiction RecoveryAdmission is necessary as the first step in the management of drug addiction. After admission to rehab, the addict needs a complete evaluation. This is done by interviewing the patient as well his family members and close friends. The evaluation is done for two purposes:
1. To determine the causes resulting in drug addiction.
2. To determine the degree of their motivation to participate in drug addiction treatment.
Immediate and complete withdrawal of drug addiction results in extremely distressing and even dangerous withdrawal symptoms. The drug should be, therefore, gradually withdrawn over a period of time in a drug detox program. Sometimes, the drug is substituted with another drug having similar effects but which is less harmful. In any case, drug detox needs to be medically monitored while the patient is in rehab.
Management of Dual Diagnosis
In case of an associated mental disorder, dual diagnosis treatment is started along with th
What does an alcohol rehab program look like?
There are many differences between people with drug addiction problems, which make it impossible to give a clear general, answer to this question. Globally, alcohol rehab and drug addiction treatment is as follows: In the first place, there is an interview on admission. In this conversation, the therapist determines what is going on and if there is really a drug addiction. This conversation usually takes an hour. However, sometimes more admission interviews need to take place to get a clear picture of the problems and the person. Additional research may be necessary after this conversation; this is usually done with questionnaires. An example of such a questionnaire is the EuropASI, which determines the severity of the drug addiction. Depending on the impression of the interviewer and the preference of the addict, a drug addiction treatment plan is made. This addiction treatment plan contains your data, the goals of the addiction treatment

I don’t personally know anyone that has a drug or alcohol problem. At least not that I am aware of. I do have an ex friend that has a drug and alcohol problem. She is no longer welcome in my home. We stopped inviting her to our parties because she kept ruining them. We quit inviting her to bring her son over because she was always drunk when she arrived (with him in the car) and we were sick of hiding any prescription drugs that were in the house. Her husband divorced her when she had an accident while under the influence of pain killers and alcohol with her son in the car. The last time she was here she invited herself to stay the night and drank 2/3 of a gallon of vodka and stole 6 muscle relaxers. I’m assuming she took them all at once because she couldn’t seem to hang onto anything including her drink and her cigarette. She was a registered nurse but lost her license when she stole her bosses prescription pad to feed her prescription drug addiction. H

Drug Addiction Treatment and Bipolar Disorder
For two decades, we have been treating drug treatment program participants with drug or alcohol addiction and bipolar disorder (sometimes referred to as bi-polar disorder or even manic depression). Bipolar disorder affects approximately 1% of the adult population and manifests itself with mood swings, often rapid and severe. It is an affective disorder, classified similarly to clinical depression. As an affective disorder, it carries the capability to emotionally cripple an individual. By itself, bipolar disorder is quite treatable with medication and therapy. When coupled with drug or alcohol addiction; however, it complicates the drug addiction treatment process and demands a knowledgeable and experienced drug treatment program such as Lakeview Health Systems.
Aside from getting an emotionally crippled addict or alcoholic into drug addiction treatment, the primary difficulty in treating addicts and alcoholics with bipolar disorder is dete
When does drug use become “addiction?”

Just this morning on the Italian news they were talking about a predictable increase in the use of cocaine of 50% next year. The big problem is that the drug is so cheap right now that it costs like a package of cigarette. But, even though smoking can be dangerous and addicting too, the use of cocaine is much worse.First because the damages it does to the users and second because it is the way to much more dangerous drugs, like LSD and Heroin. The drug treatment is not just a physical treatment to fight the addiction, that is probably the easier part.It is the person and his psychological behavior that must be treated. It is his lifestyle and his habits and his approach to life that have to change. And who can help in this, better than people who WERE addicted and arrived to drugs and know what and how because they LIVED it?
