The Monster Engine transforms childrens creative scribbles and art work into more professional looking paintings.Instead of just seeking inspiration from, or reinterpreting, their work, Dave Devries asks, “What would children’s drawings look like if they could be painted realistically?” The Monster Engine is the first book in a series about repainting the drawings of children in more reali

... The sketch is a window into the architects mind. As creative designers, architects are interested in how other architects, particularly successful ones, think through the use of drawings to approach their work. Historically designers have sought inspiration for their own work through an insight into the minds and workings of people they often regard as geniuses. This collection of sketches aims to provide this insight. Here for the first time, a wide range of world famous architects' sketches from the Renaissance to the present day can be seen in a single volume. The sketches have been selected to represent the concepts or philosophies of the key movements in architecture in order to develop an overall picture of the role of the sketch in the development of architecture. Forty of Jasper Johns' drawings of the last ten years, currently on exhibit at Matthew Marks (522 W. 22 St.) in Chelsea, recommend themselves on so many levels that it's hard to know where to begin. I was struck not just by his continuing obsession with the images he's made famous over the years but by his obvious love for drawing and drawing materials. He's said this before, but it's clear he loves seeing how his targets, flags, numbers, etc. change from one medium to the next, how they emerge so differently on various material surfaces. He makes them all look new.As much as I like looking at Johns' canvases, I love seeing these images played out on paper, created with all sorts of combinations of ink, acrylic, pencil, graphite, watercolor, etc. Artists with a large body of drawings gain

Little Johnny drew a fly on the class grade book.It looked so realistic, that when Miss Baker saw the fly sitting on the notebook, she slammed it with a ruler. The fly didn’t fly away. So she slammed the book once again, again the fly didn’t fly away. This drove Miss Baker really mad, so she started to pound the book with the ruler and, as a result, the grade book became a bunch of torn sheets of paper. With the class laughing, she realized what had happened. Then Miss Baker called Little Johnny’s father to school."You see what your son did to our class grade book?" she said."That’s nothing." replied the father. "Last month, he drew a naked woman on a fence and for two weeks straight I was pulling splinters out of my dick."

How’s this for political correctness gone mad? Apparently drawings of Halo 3 are a terrorist threat - anyone see that coming? According to games site NFG, a 14-year-old boy was suspended from his school in Pittston, Pennsylvania for sketching images of Halo in a notebook.
The student from Wyoming Valley West Middle School was immediately suspended and the school called the police after the notebook was found containing ‘crudely drawn’ sketches of an assault rifle, a bomb and a map.
What do you make of all this? Were the school right to suspend the student?

Diesel power is the hot ticket at Le Mans right now after the dominant win by Audi's R10 this year and Peugeot coming next year. But technology always moves on in racing (unless you're talking Nascar, but that's a whole other story). By the middle of the next decade, racers will likely have moved on to something else, and Acura is playing off of parent Honda's fuel cell efforts by showing drawings of a potential fuel cell powered Le Mans racer. It's unlikely a racer will look much like any of these drawings, but some of the technology could make it to the track. Pen and wash drawing copyright VivienBlackburnStill life is a subject I don't really do any more in the traditional sense - I'll sometimes do studies of something that interests me or just for practice but don't do 'finished' works any more. Landscape always was my first interest. This set up was in a class about 12 years ago and was full of lovely textures and shapes - the hairiness of the coil of rope, drapes of the material, the dark wood of the chair and the white flowers against a dark background, smooth jug, spiky teasel and delicate honesty were interesting to work with and work out a way of expressing each.It was done with a Rotring art pen and sepia ink with plain water to create the washes - the ink is water soluble.I came across this photo of it while I was looking for something else.My Rotring pen tends to languish largely unused as well - I often find pen too scratchy for me and like the painterliness and soft edges of charcoal or pencil better for the way I work. If you've been around for a while you know how much I love drawing. I enjoy illustrating just about anything, although I'm not too good with drawing anything that takes much of my own imagination to create. I have gradually gotten back into the groove of drawing, using all kinds of media. My tool of choice is pencil though, the most versatile for me using a range between B and B8 with an H2 on the side. I am now offering portrait drawings for everyone to enjoy.
Below is an example of my drawing style. It is a portrait piece I did for my friend Jennie. The drawings I offer are drawn using professional Staedtler pencils on cream Strathmore 400 Series 80 lb. paper, no more than 8x10. I'm the kind of person that enjoys completing my drawings in one sitting, which is usually several hours. If you would like to see other art I have done you can go here, here, and here.

I've very much enjoyed doing the research for images, information and links about the drawings and paintings Van Gogh made of gardens - both public and private. He seems to have made gardens one of his prime and enduring motifs for experimenting with mark-making and drawing in both monochrome and colour.

By Ilse HagenDrawing freehand is still best, most will argue, but when one considers today's technological advances in digital imaging, photo editing, and illustration software, you can't help but do a double-take. A drawing software can turn a drab project into a professional output in an instant.Get illustrations done fasterMost of us don't have time to obsess on every detail of our “work of art” even if we want to, what with the inflow of clients and projects. There’s no shame in using a practical and reliable software to make our lives easier. A good drawing software not only saves you time – it also lets you polish your work faster and more accurately.Still freehand, only betterAre you a purist? You need not be aggrieved by drawing software, because these applications still allow you to draw freehand images in a tablet just like you would on paper, except that the software automatically converts your drawing into digital format. Bad Spock DrawingsJust when you thought all possible commentary—earnest or ironic—had been made about "Star Trek," someone beams up another take on the currently dormant sci-fi franchise. It's not logical, but this repository of artistic tributes to the contained-yet-charismatic Mr. Spock does nicely as a late-entry homage. Vulcan purists may chafe at Creepy Child Spock, Bauhaus Spock, or two-headed real universe/mirror universe Spock, but Nimoy knows, "Trek" can use the attention. And though we're accustomed to seeing the half-human, half-alien Starfleet officer in any number of daring or dignified positions, Chimp Spock, Ballerina Spock, and the Spocktopus take us where no fan has gone before. Even if words often fail in describing certain representations, we can still say: "Bad Spock Drawings," live long and prosper.http://www.best-fun-games.com/http://hey-whatsupwiththat.blogspot.com/http://justdowntheroadabit.blogspot.com/

Claude Monet "Fruit Trees" 1865-75225mm x 292mmPrivate CollectionPastels, drawings, sketchbooks and Monet - four of my favourite things are combined in the new exhibition about "The Unknown Monet" at the Royal Academy of Arts until 10th June 2007. The exhibition then moves to the Sterling and Francine Carter Art Institute in Williamstown in Massachusetts from 24th June until 16th September 2007.‘You must begin by drawing … Draw simply and directly, with charcoal, crayon or whatever, above all observing the contours, because you can never be too sure of holding on to them, once you start to paint.’ CLAUDE MONET, 1920Despite his statement, Claude Monet (1840–1926) spent most of his life staunchly denying the role drawing played in his creative process. Critics, biographers and journalists did not write about it, and his paintings were often praised for their lack of it. The reality, however, is that Monet carried pocket-sized sketchbooks with him throughout his life, setting out
Yesterday I went to visit the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. It's an interesting museum, in fact the oldest in England to open it's doors to the public. I often pop in; it has, among many other treasures, an amazing collection of prints and drawings, including many by Raphael and Michaelangelo. Usually there are a few on display, though unfortunately the museum is currently undergoing major development and so a large number of its rooms are closed. However, they do currently have an exhibition of German drawings from this collection, including some great works by Dürer, Grünewald and Holbein. Here's an extract from the museum's description of the exhibition:Highlights of the exhibition include Albrecht Dürer’s (1471-1528) Youth Kneeling before a Potentate. Watched by two men looking through a window, a young man in a turban kneels before an elder in a vaulted chamber. The youth is thought to be a self portrait of the artist while the theme of the drawing illustrates a biblical st

I start each project with research and a lot of sketching. Once I have the idea worked out, I create a preliminary drawing on tracing vellum. A layer of graphite is applied to the back of this drawing. The drawing is laid (graphite side down) onto the scratchboard. I then trace over the entire drawing again, creating a light graphite copy on the scratchboard. Most of my work is done with an exacto blade. I work in layers of scratches (dots and lines) across the whole board. Each layer or level of detail adds more 'light' to the drawing. Very small areas can be changed, but correcting larger areas causes too much damage to the surface of the clay. So, if I'm not happy with what I have done, it means starting over. When I am going to be adding color, I use artist's gouache (opaque watercolors) and a small brush. If you have any questions, please contact me.
My scratchboard artwork for this post is a commission that I just finished. It is titled "Tiger Eyes for Sara". The board size
I can't draw to save my life. However, patent applications require very detailed drawings of submitted inventions.
