In the game of baseball, a difference between winning and losing is determined sometimes by an inch or the judgment of an umpire. That theory could be applied to Sunday’s rubber match against the Baltimore Orioles on a hot, sunny day at Nationals Park. With two outs in the bottom of the twelfth inning, and Baltimore ahead 2-1, thanks to a valiant comeback in the top the frame, the Washington Natio

It's probably fair to say that most people at Summerhill felt that Imbongi was a “winner” for his big effort in the Gold Challenge, but that wasn’t all for the day. As an illustration of the ups and downs of our sport, we had to face the disqualification of Bold Ellinore in the Tibouchina Stakes (Gr.2) just as we arrived at the course. Our work has become a blood-sucking leech that continues to dig deep into our wounds, and expands the cut we previously had. It's amazing, how people can sit in front of a computer/desk, for 8 hours a day, and continue living life as if nothing is wrong.Personally, I will try to do what I can in order to escape this down right dirty tactic that puts hold on people. I am not saying working is bad,

I spent a few minutes at Barnes & Noble with my 86-year-old father this weekend (he can only stand comfortably for a few minutes at a time before his knees start causing him real problems) browsing the "Literature" shelves to see if I might have missed something from any of my past favorite writers, some of whom I've been reading for decades.
I was forced to walk the aisles at a lot quicker pace
So. This weekend I stepped away from the computer and in front of the chaotic mess that presented itself at home. And I’m happy to report that I was able to regain some order to the chaos. In fact, I regained a lot of order, especially in regards to my home office. I [...]

It just started pouring with rain again tonight. Last night was noisy with it, and the grass was all soaked and puddly today. We desperately need it, so no complaints, but it would have been nice to grab ChaCha before the downpour to hang his cage inside. I'm all for a bird-in-the-rain now and then, but that already happened last night, and he's old, and I just refilled his seed dish, so I ran into the giant drops and grabbed him. Now I'm freezing in the a/c. We're probably both freezing. It's a good problem. Too bad birds can't have sake.I noticed yesterday he appears to have a cataract in his right eye.If cockatiels live about 15 years, and I got him in '92, that means he's into bonus years at this point. There's a song by one of my favourite artists, the charming Ryan Donn, titled Nursery Rhyme which I simply adore. It makes me smile, dance, and think. A lovely combination, really. It illustrates the simple concept that even if life doesn't work out how we think it will, we'll be just fine.I'm going to go on for several paragraphs I'm sure, but it can all be summed up thusly; "I'm fine."The weekend didn't quite go according to plan. We had to sign bank documents while there, and the time of the signing was earlier than I'd anticipated. And then it was discovered that it was a holiday weekend south of the border. The odds of getting caught up in traffic and missing the signing began to look greater and greater. I tried to wriggle my way around it, a lot of what if'ing and whatnot, no

Wow, talk about ups and downs. Yesterday I was like on a high, and today was another low. It's strange, really. A lot of it has to do with energy levels. I had no energy today because I couldn't sleep last night. I forgot to take my meds before work, so I didn't accomplish much there in the realm of homework. So, after having brunch with Ross, I went home to take my meds and I'd planned on going to class. I was so exhausted, though, I thought I'd nap and go to geology later. That never happened. I'd set my alarm and all, but I fell asleep slumped over the side of my bed and overslept for class. Ouch. Thus, I got anxious. I called in sick to work. Ross came over to calm me down. The usual.I'm going to attempt to get a good amount of sleep tonight. I really need it.DBT yesterday was pretty ni
I've been reading a bit about Depression. I don't really need any advice on the subject. I've been depressed for years. I can do it standing on one leg, but I don't usually feel like standing on one leg when I'm depressed. I've learned to live with it. I've learned to joke about it. I can't pretend I understand it but then my dad spent years trying to figure out what exactly triggered my asthma and all he ended up with was a long list of often contradictory entries.Of course, finding out I was a depressive, the next obvious thing to do was become a writer. It's not compulsory, one can write when not depressed, but it does look good on the CV. The statistics speak for themselves. A study carried out by Kay Jamison, Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, showed that 38% of a group of eminent British writers and artists had been treated for a mood disorder of one kind or another; of these, 75% had had antidepressants or lithium prescribed, or had

Well here's a bit of good news. My new refrigerator was delivered this morning. Of course the best part is they showed up unannounced at 7am WHEN I WASN'T HOME. Apparently someone made an error at the store and scheduled delivery and forgot to call us to confirm. Lovely. The upside is they turned around and drove back an hour later, just enough time for me to haul everything out of the old one into the basement fridge. The downside is I couldn't fit everything in the freezer downstairs, so I have a free extra turkey thawing in the extra fridge. Oh, and the new one seems to be working, so that's good right? On the bad side, I got 129 e-mails in my work inbox OVER THE WEEKEND. Freaking overachievers...The good news is I created a folder called JOB #3 #4 and #5 in my email account and sorted them out of my inbox. photo from my yesterday's adventure Yesterday was an interesting day. I had to start the day driving around downtown Salt Lake City to find the Utah Board of Education building. I was going to install our software on one of their computers. Well, the address that was given me was wrong. Driving somewhere that I’ve never been to before I hate, but even worse is getting lost and being late to something important. I started to panic. I quickly called Tyler and explained the situation to him. Luckily his new job had him right around the corner and he was able to come and help me. I was able to get there only a little bit late. It was a stressful experience but I made it through just fine. On my way back to the office I picked up some fast food. I tried to eat it at my desk but kept getting interrupted and soon it got cold. But I was full anyway so no big deal. Than a couple co workers and I decided to go take some photos of the fall colors in a nearby canyon. On the drive down ther

Many of us plan for a baby's arrival much in advance and many women plan on being a mother for as long as they can remember. Many feel that being a mother is what makes life meaningful and complete. However, what we all don't know and cannot plan in advance for is pregnancy and what will happen during that period of time.
Prepare for Pregnancy
The best thing about being pregnant is the fact that you will bring your child to this world and nothing can be a better experience than that/ The feeling of having a human life grow within you is something you will wonder about everyday and enjoy every single moment of it. There are unfortunately some discomforts that may come along with pregnancy as well and for which you should be prepared before hand.
The most important thing is the change in your taste buds and this is something you will notice probably in the very first month of your pregnancy. You will have a never ending appetite and most of the time for the foods that you never
We were awful, uninspired and for a good portion of the game, you felt this was going to be one of those days. Today's performance was by far the worst we've played since the season began. Yet thru the sheer individual brilliance of Nani, we chalked up our first win. Undeserved? Probably, but luck has a way of evening itself up.There's really nothing much to say about today's game. With the exception of Evra, the entire defense was caught napping far too many times for my liking. Rio, Vidic, Van der Sar and Brown were all guilty of crimes of giving the ball away cheaply and not marking their men. This is probably in poor taste if you're of Jewish decent, but they all need to be sent to concentration camp.Carrick was disastrous. Maybe he was trying too hard against his old team, but it certainly was no excuse for a piss poor performance. I don't expect him to shed the Invisible Man tag and suddenly turn into Superman, but today he was Dr Doom. He's passes were off and his tackles

Every now and then I stumble upon designers (fashion or otherwise) that are hidden away somewhere in the woodwork (why hidden?) The other day was one of those “every now and then” occasions. I understand that staying in the little house on the bridge has it's ups and downs. The Robert street bridge is a landmark in these parts. It is on the national register of historic places, and was built in 1924-1926. The current bridge is a replacement for the original which was built in 1885, and was not designed to handle the large volume of car and street car traffic that came a couple of decades later.
For those who don't know what a street car was we are currently building light rail to replace the street cars which were replaced by buses. Except the light rail lines are replacing the street cars that were on University avenue, not the ones that were on Robert.
The original Robert street bridge was named after a Frenchman, Louis Robert (Row-bear') who was a fur trader, an early St.Paul land owner, and a steamboat owner and pilot. Louis Robert arrived in St. Paul in the winter of 1843, walking through the snow and wilderness from Prai
The life insurance industry has had a love/hate relationship with private pilots going way back.
Most of the companies hate to insure them. A handful love to insure them.
For most insurance company’s underwriters there must be this sense that the only way a small airplane can come down is nose first. Somehow they have forgotten that the airplanes have wheels and even if the wheels give way, most of the time they seem to slide to a pretty painless stop.
If you are a private pilot and have shopped for life insurance, you know that it can be tough hunting out there. This is one area where there is no doubt that being in the hands of an independent agent with aviation underwriting experience is a must. How do you tell if they have experience? As with most health issues, if you tell an agent that you are a private pilot and they don’t ask a lot more questions, relevant questions, you’re probably on the phone with the wrong person. You can alway ask what percentage of thei

Today was a day of ups and downs.Although the insurance company hasn't officially announced it, my car appears to be totaled. My baby Kala has died and is going to RAV4 heaven. I will miss her. She was the first car I ever bought and completely paid for all by myself. In fact, she's the only "big ticket" item I've ever bought and paid off myself. My parents helped me with my education and I have no real estate or other significantly large material holding.*sigh* But the plus side to losing Kala (sounds like Koohla, it's Hawaiian for "princess"), is that my insurance company is going to pay me for her. I don't know exactly how much but it will be a few thousand dollars. Those few thousands will be my ticket straight to Chicago. And continuing on the positive side, I have a 30 day contract to work for The Sports Authority starting on Wednesday. It's as a special projects copywriter! Cool right?! I'm excited for that, it should be a lot of fun. The pay is better than my other temp job
Total the amount of money involved in a day’s trading on the US stock and Treasury Bills markets by three, and you’ll still have less than a third of the amount of money which exchanges hands on the currency Forex–foreign exchange–market. The currency Forex market is where the money of one country–US dollars, for instance—is exchanged for that of another, like Japanese yen.
But unlike the world’s other economic markets, currency Forex trading is not centralized. There is no Wall Street or Throgmorton Street with an historic exchange building; Currency Forex trading exists only over telephone wires and Internet connections.
But exist it does; and it involve a global network of financial institutions, individuals, and banks all working around the clock and unhampered by international borders. Time and physical distance have no meaning in the currency Forex market.
At one time currency Forex trading was the domain of banks that held large amounts of money in vari
It's amazing how things can change from one hour to the next. Yesterday was, overall, pretty terrible. I know my previous entry seemed optimistic, but after that things just went downhill. Yeah, I finished my project but I also had an anxiety attack and missed my appointment to make up the final for that class. As the day went on it just got worse. The negative emotions wouldn't leave me alone. Even today I'm having a difficult time. My hands are trembling as I write this. If it were handwritten, it'd be barely legible. Fortunately even now I'm a good typist so I'm able to convey what I'm feeling.I just want to live without having to make so much effort. Why is it that Sky can go all day long and work and stay busy and other people can work 40 to 60 hours in a week and be content while I struggle with the most menial tasks? It's beyond me. Frustrating is the only way to truly describe it. I guess I can only keep on doing what I'm doing even if I don't really want to most of t

Hrishikesh Mukherjee meets Walt Disney in this utterly heart-warming take on life’s most serious and cruel jokes.
There’s a moment in Anand’s film where Rani plays that clichéd sequence where the hero’s fallen-on-hard-times wife rejects a fat cheque from her rich father.
“I did the right thing, didn’t I?” Rani asks her screen-husband Saif, who looks aghast. “You turned down a cheque for $50,000? For that sum of money I’m ready to be compromised every day.”
The above sequence is a strangely subverted interpretation of the sequence from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Satyakam” where Dharmendra’s idealism was weighed against Sharmila Tagore’s ability to ward off temptations.
“Tara Rum Pum” is like a romp through the highest emotional summits of l

I was thinking about it today, because I mentioned my upcoming surgery to a friend of mine, and he replied that he would likely have to be doing something similar in the future, when he lost weight. So, here’s my list:
Benefits!
Clothes Fit better — Yes, I know this is obvious, but it really makes a huge impact on how you feel and how you perceive yourself. I always thought I had a badly shaped body (which, it’s most certainly not perfect), but really, being fat just accentuates the parts of you that aren’t great. And when you’re not, clothes mask a lot of that… so, here’s to well-fitting clothes! Hurr
So today I went to Zumba. It was a new class with an instructor who has never taught it before, although I guess she teaches lots of other stuff there. She was too cute, and I felt bad for her because they didn't publicize the new classes like, at all, and I was the only one there for the first ten minutes. She does things a lot differently than Tina but I think once she's got her routines down it will be a fun class. Now let's talk about the room we were in.We were in the studio, which, as I've mentioned before, has a huge mirror in it all over the wall so you can watch yourself workout. Woo hoo. It's a fat mirror.Like, a really-super-duper-makes-you-twice-as-wide-as-normal mirror.I hate it.I mean, this mirror is my vile arch enemy. I go in to have a nice, fun, sweaty workout and the mirror, it mocks me."You're fat" it reminds me, in case I'd started to forget and maybe even, gasp! started to feel good about my body. "You don't belong here. You look stupid doing those moves. Eve

Opps, I did it. I bought a new album from iTunes just after I read some articles about the band and the new album in different newspapers, both Swedish and English.
I listened to some of the tracks in iTunes (but what I hate that it is only possible to listen to twenty seconds of each song, that just to short).
And I bought it.
I talk about LCD Soundsystem and their new album Sound of silver.
Facts:LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of producer James Murphy, co-founder of dance-punk label DFA Records. The music of LCD Soundsystem can also be described as a mix of dance music and punk, along with elements of disco and other styles.
In the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet it gets five marks of six possible.
I like the cover of the album, its chilly as snow.
Good Charlotte is a sort of punkband my youngest son listens to sometimes. But their latest album - Good morning revival - has not got good reviews here in Swedish newspapers.
Facts:Good Charlotte is a Pop Punk ban
Investing in Vail real estate will be a decision you will or will not be glad you've made! When people buy Vail homes they're buying more than just four walls and a roof. They are buying an opportunity to live in a premiere vacation destination, one of the best in the world. And people who buy second homes in Vail are buying an investment that doesn't just provide long-term growth...it also pays regular dividends!Families who come to Vail for a holiday need Vail family vacation homes where they can be together when they're not skiing down the slopes or enjoying an afternoon in the Vail Village shops. And if you offer your home as a Vacation home in Vail, you'll earn income from vacationers. Some homes can go for $1000 or more per night, with the right view and amenities. And people are lining up to pay it because you don't just own real estate; you own Vail real estate... and this option is better for families who are looking for more in Vail vacation rentals than a Vail hotel. Yesterday I got a call from my 8 year old daughter’s best friend’s mom. She was going through her daughter’s outgrown clothes and wanted to know if The Twins wore size 6/6x. I was like, OMGZ YES!!! ’cause I love me some hand-me-downs. So she brought them over last night. The Twins now have more clothes than anybody else in the family put together and will be the best dressed 5 year olds in the state of Lousiana. We are talking, Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren,…all brand name stuff and SO FREAKING MUCH OF IT.
As I was going through all the clothes it made me a little sad. This little girl is an only child but no child needs this many clothes. My girls have a very limited wardrobe. Due to our tight budget I have never been able to afford to shop for them like I’d like. They (including the best friend) wear uniforms to school so it’s not like we need a tons of clothes. We have some play outfits, a few church outfit

There are a lot of ups and downs in my blogging journey. I’m sure you know what I mean, if you are a blogger too.
Sometimes, feel so motivated to write. Sometimes, dunno why I blog - for what? Sometimes lose my passion and directions. Sometimes very gungho and write a lot of stuff…
Currently what motivate me to continue blogging are…
First, I want to keep this a place to store my children’s growing up journey. We tend to forget things when we age. Things that are small maybe big in the future, who knows.
Second, I have some regular readers that are my motivator to write too! My old school friends, my new blog friends, my ex-colleagues, etc… This is a place for me to update them with my life.
Third, I have discovered that my blog actually can still attract new readers. This is very encouraging. I thought my blog is very boring?! I thought it can only attract people who are my personal friends only?!
And, finally, I know my blog can help
