Two years ago, I had this discussion with a friend who was interested in embracing Catholicism. Talking about Catholic rites and other heaps of stuff led us to the part about donating alms. In Catholicism, nobody else is supposed to know how much alms have you donated every Sunday Mass, in order to receive grace from God only. It was unfortunate that he trapped me into this segment of convers
On Vesak day, I forgetfully ordered a beef dish and I felt really bad lah. I totally forgot it's Vesak day and totally forgot about the beef until I started eating.I was like, there's no way to reverse the ordered and eating part, so I thought I should give something, like help or what. I decide that I'll just donate like a small amount or something to help some people.I know the reason is like so

200 fresh bloody human kidneys of both genders, all ages and races were thrown outside the door Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston by an anonymous philanthropist. The doctors believe that the donor 'must be some kind of angel'. There is a possibility that these kidneys must be related to last week's donation of 1,200 eyes. Each year over 100 million used cell phones are discarded, filling landfills with toxic chemicals that present environmental hazards to the planet's already fragile ecosystems. WASHINGTON, PRNewswire (April 18 2008) - As part of its ongoing commitment to support Ethiopia's educational system, and an example of the extraordinary collaboration between educators in the United States and Ethiopia, the American people donated over one and half million English language textbooks to Ethiopia. The Evil Empire strikes again! The BOSTON HERALD reports: The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston confirmed yesterday that the New York Yankees plan to donate to the Jimmy Fund the David Ortiz jersey they chipped from beneath two feet of cement in the new Yankee Stadium. “They will be sending it to us later this week,” hospital spokesman Bill Schaller said. The Yanks thought it more appropriate to let the shirt be auctioned off to help the Jimmy Fund - a charity, ironically enough, synonymous with the Red Sox. “The Steinbrenner family has supported the Jimmy Fund in the past, so we’re very grateful they thought of us,” Schaller said. “I think everyone’s on the same side when it comes to cancer. We all want to beat it.”HOW EVIL!

Firefighters are often charged with the unpleasant task of rescuing car accident victims. High-end vehicles such as Mercedes-Benz often require unique handling. The same safety measures that protect passengers during the crash can actually provide a challenge for rescue workers. Thanks to Mercedes, however, sixty firefighters had the opportunity to slice up a half million [...]

Bob McNichol has been fighting to get his sight back, tooth and … eye? The 57-year-old Irishman was blinded two years ago after an aluminum explosion at a recycling plant, AFP reported Thursday. His sight has been miraculously restored after doctors inserted his son’s tooth in his eye. "I thought that I was going to be blind for the rest of my life," McNichol told RTE state radio, AFP reported. After doctors told McNichol there was nothing more they could do for him, he heard about an offbeat operation called Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis (OOKP) being performed in England. OOKP, first performed in Italy in the 1960s, involves creating an artificial cornea by using the patient’s tooth and surrounding bone as a support, AFP reported. McNichol’s son Robert,

I must say that I am very pleased and a little bit shocked by the overwhelmingly positive response to the Accessible Art experiment. I sincerely thank all those who donated, your generosity will allow me to continue this little project of mine. I hope all of you enjoy your prints as much as I enjoyed making them.
I’d like to personally thank Brian Auer, once again, for his post about the project, it literally doubled the amount of traffic I normally receive. There are some interesting comments from his readers about this whole idea. I have to say it’s a bit strange reading a string of comments on another blog about myself and what I’m doing here. I’ll try not to let it go to my head.
As of this evening, I have received a total of 12 donations, which is about 12 more than I actually expected. I am planning to add a few new images to the print gallery by the end of the week, so watch for updates. Of course, if you haven’t donated yet, please consider doi
Olympus Corporation (President: Tsuyoshi Kikukawa) was a premier sponsor of "A Day in the Life of Africa" and provided extensive support, including the supply of photographic equipment, for this international photographic event. As part of its contribution to this initiative, which was the biggest photographic project in history, Olympus staged the first "A Day in the Life Africa Exhibition" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in June 2003. Admission fees from the exhibition were donated to the United Nations for use in AIDS education. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) used these funds to produce a music CD, "We are the Drums for an AIDS Generation," which was recently completed. For more information : olympus

I just saw this over at Pet Connection, about Noah’s Wish. If you recall, they were accepting donations to help pet victims of hurricane Katrina in 2005…
Under fire for how it spent millions of dollars in donations earmarked for rescuing and caring for animals in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, a California animal rescue organization has agreed to relinquish the $4 million that remains to help the storm’s animal victims, particularly those in hard-hit Slidell.
Noah’s Wish, which spent several weeks in Slidell after the storm and received more than $8 million in donations from around the country, reached the settlement last month after the California attorney general’s office investigated spending practices by the organization that included a mammoth pay raise and the purchase of new vehicles for the organization’s executive director.
The agreement stipulates that Slidell will receive $1 million to build a new animal shelter, though city officials sai
Colin Farrell is apparently much more of a humanitarian than you, me, or anyone else has ever thought of him. Celebslam dropped the good word today that the former Hollywood badass donated $100,000 to a Uruguayan school in 2005 and word only recently got around about it:
Apparently Colin Farrell donated $100,000 to this Uruguayan school to help buy computers, new toilets, and other stuff, way back in December of 2005 but the news only recently surfaced. In other words, he didn't issue an immediate press release *cough*angelinajolie*cough*. If you're scoring at home, that makes Colin Farrell better than all of us. Especially you. What, you don't think I know about that one thing you did that one night back in college? Gross man, just gross.
Just imagine all of the good that could come about if only most “celebrities” (Hi Lindsay!!) donated 10% of the time they waste on being complete shitheads to doing something positive like this for the world.
Then again, who would
...and a strong case of nausea! This morning, Oronzo and I arrived at mass to find a huge blown up blood drop character outside our church, as well as a bloodmobile bus. Apparently there was a blood drive push being sponsored by our parish.I've never donated blood before, mainly because I never met the 110 lb. weight requirement. Now that I've finally surpassed that requirement by 6 lbs, I had no excuse. After mass, I went over to the blood mobile and registered. The sign said it was a 10 minute process to donate blood. That was so not true! I took me about an hour.I read the booklet and then I was escorted into a tiny room to answer several pre-qualifying yes/no questions with a nice lady in a white lab coat.Q: "Within the last year, have you been to any third-world disease-ravaged countries?"A: "No."Q: "Within the last year, have you had s*x with anyone from a third-world disease-ravaged country?"A: "No."Q: "Within the last year, have you had s*x with someone who might have had s*x

Here's how to throw away an enormous heap of money on absolutely nothing:
A devotee on Tuesday offered seven gifts, totalling Rs 1.5 crore, to the presiding deity at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) temple, the richest Hindu shrine in the world.
Consulting the always unreliable Wikipedia, we find that an Indian crore is a numbering unit equal to ten million.
Balbir Singh Uppal, a Chandigarh-based industrialist and the CMD of Lakshmi Energy and Foods, donated the items to the deputy executive officer of the temple, G Balaramaiah. Uppal, who had gone for a darshan, handed over the gifts in the morning, apparently in fulfillment of a vow he had made earlier to Lord Venkateswaram, the presiding deity.
Presiding? I would like to know, exactly how is this deity "presiding" in the temple?
The seven-piece ensemble comprised a sankanidhi, padmanidhi and eka harathi, two nakshatra harathis and a sankham — each made of gold — and a dhoopa harathi.
This would have been so

Gallery Sitting7 x 5", Oils on canvas covered hardboard$100 unframed via PayPal, free shipping within US (email me for international rates)All proceeds from the sale of this painting will be donated to Putnam Arts Council for the rebuilding of their Art Center and Galleries following the horrible fire on Sunday night. I painted this interior scene from life while gallery sitting at the Belle Levine Gallery at Putnam Arts Council. Following the fire on Sunday night/Monday morning, this gallery space is no more. Having recently shown about 40 paintings here during the holiday season, it's hard for me to believe it's gone. It is such a terrible loss for Putnam County. The sculpture in the painting, "Hawk of the Hudson", is by the wonderful sculptor Paul Yarden. It was made from driftwood found along the riverbank. You can read more about the fire and public reaction (including my own) in this newspaper article.
Let me begin by telling you the weather here has been gorgeous and I really couldn't ask for anymore. I love it when it's not too hot, not too cold.

Randy inquires:
I realize with the passage of the Pension Act of 2006 a taxpayer can make a contribution directly to charity, have it excluded from their taxable income, included in their required minimum distributions, and not deductible on Schedule A. Is there an exception to the deductibility on Schedule for taxpayers with an IRA which has been completely funded with non-deductible
